What does this button do?
I'm scared to touch it.

It refreshes the map textures, I think.

Going into the textures tab then leaving it does that. I'm guessing it does something along the lines of compile, save, load, but it might be an undo button, or something different, and I don't want to break anything.

Well, when I click on it the "refreshing please wait" message thingy pops up. But it may be refreshing something else entirely.

I just repaints the screen.  It is very similar to bringing up the custom textures panel, then leaving.

So it's a refresh button. The equivalent of degaussing your monitor.
