I just had to see what it was like to turn a real life image into a map and I thought it would be fun to see my Sega Dreamcast get overrun with Creeper.
Note: Spores come from the left for the first wave then from there on out they come from the top and the left

Fascinating...
That's what I did with an image I got off google, it molded my map into something else and created a hidden challenge as well!
Just downloaded it and Amnesia (the harder version ;) )

Awesome this level isn't to challenging to win but it can be hard to get a good time. As for amnesia its a little funner if you develop your defenses a little instead of charging straight for the totems I thought I made that impossible I sure can't manage to do it as fast as rpr.

In this map I noticed right off the bat that the emitters on the outer ring are far too weak to be a major deterrent. I just started up the game to see how it would play, but still I saw it was a little easy to win.
A very easy way to make it difficult to advance quickly: put necessary technologies in techs on the map, and bombard the person with constant spore waves (intervals of 30 seconds or 25 seconds might work, so long as you give them enough SAMs).
The only connections you give the person is relays (unless it is detrimental to anti-cheating techniques on the map).
Of course, I am thinking about my maps and their layouts, so I guess some suggestions might not fully work.

I just opened 'er up on the map editor, and I like your idea of staggering the waves. I'll try playing around with it.

The idea of taking a user's map and tinkering with it in the map editor came to me today, so I took dreamcast and decided to edit it as I would in a blue Ops series.
I've been playing around with emitter values, terrain height, and how the background looks.
So here's what I have for now. Not the way i'd model a blue ops mission, but how i'd take the characteristics of my blue ops map and put them into yours.
The beginning strategy is to go for the reactor tech, build up your energy (watch the disc tray though ;) and slowly begin your advance. You might need some blasters to defend your relays at the start of the march across the bottom shell around the disc tray.
Of course, this is just something I put together, probably not the final product. Work with it if you want, though.

Edit: after a single playthrough I almost made it except for a defect in the map that kept me from winning!!!
I spent almost an hour on it... argh
Well, i'm done with CW for today. Maybe you can beat it?

Two things I dislike in custom maps: spore waves :P and uncappable emitters  >:(.

I think the idea of tinkering with other maps is cool but you should channel them through the usual submission process.

Kingo

And I was planning to do just that Jerdog.
I believe i'll take the down the link and finish the map myself :D just wanted to show the changes to maybe give Kronokill some ideas.

I got all the way to the part where you are passing by the outside edge of the memory card base then I quit since I figured I could make it through to the end if I made it that far. You did do a good job editing it the map was a lot longer and it's kind of cool to see other peoples versions of my map. The map took me a lot longer to get through I think I was at 30 min when I quit.
And Jerdog it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one with dislike for spores.

If there were no spores it would be too easy :)
Of course, I could create future versions where spore towers are threatening to cut you off :D I suppose it would require more resources in the long run then SAMs....
I always play maps in double speed because I can't stand going slowly (unless it is tactical), so I guess it could be beaten faster then my time easily.
Unwittingly the Dreamcast's shape and your choosing of the terrain for different components was really helpful in making the start a little difficult :)

Kronokill

I completely agree that both of our Dreamcast versions would be to easy without spores I'm just not to crazy about them. With my terrain features I was trying to go as realistic as I could with all the terrian heights. I play on double speed to but I pause A TON because I'm trying to get faster with my strategies so I can make maps that will be more challenging for people who are really good. Like some of Bacura or Wizy's maps even though they drive me crazy to figure out.
