Title: What makes a good map?
Post by: GVS on April 03, 2010, 03:07:49 PM
I love to make maps, but it's difficult to make a map without knowing what will make it a good map. Any ideas on what makes a good map good?

'Good' is relative, but I guess most players like a fun challenge without getting annoyed.

A 'challenge' is also relative, as the skill of the players will vary, so determine the type of player you're aiming at (this is why I think the difficulty indicator does make sense).

In this context I would define 'annoying' as having to repeat the same action over and over, or being forced to wait for a long time (I recall a certain sanatorium.... ;)).

Originality also helps....

Look at the vast collection of maps out there. Look at the ones getting high ratings and favorable comments versus the ones that get low ratings and negative comments. Play some - that should give yo a feel for what people like and what they don't like.

A good map is... Average, not too long , not too hard :P

At least, to me ;p
