It also pauses for me repeatedly, so I deleted a ton of the speed upgrades until I could get it to play smoothly and will see if that makes a big difference in time.  But overall it was the only way to get this thing to play at all without driving me crazy.

Well, even after deleting nearly half of the speed upgrades it was possible to get a pretty good time on this one.  As far as maze maps go, I think this was a really good one :)
