He means to change the target mid-flight. It wouldn't give more bombs, just be able to change targets.

I have done the same mistake many times and dubbel clicked the Drone ,
so it would be nice to be abel to change the Drones target during the attack .
Or make it so the Drones doesnt attacke if they arent target on the creepers ,
but that might be an problem too ,
sometimes i use drones to attack an cleard high point to make room around it ,
so an reattack point would be the best thing .

reattacking would make drones WAY TOO STRONG i know what i am talking about take my word for it.

I think this is a UI issue. Fixing it (if there is a way to do it, which I can't see how) would not change gameplay, but would just fix the way people interact with the game.

I think everyone makes that mistake once or twice and then learn not to do it. So maybe just leave it as-is.

UI issue ?

User Interface. It is a term that game designers and programmers use to describe how people use their programs.

Like the dialogs that pop up in CW that you must click on and cannot dismiss with the keyboard.

or atleast making it so then the green circle appears around it. cause it has none which i too have double clicked and only because i thought it was glitching out and not selecting.

well maybe there could be a setting that switches between single and double click, like single is normal and double means you have to double click to select stuff, that would clear up your drone fails :P

There can be something like "targeting button" - you can place beacon on map with it. Double-clicking on trodne would then send the drone automatically to the beacon. It can also help if you are bombing some place regularly.

true, kinda like a rally point for other RTS games so that no matter what happens, as soon as the drone launches it will head for that place

Aurzel: U would like iif it would go there only on double click -  and one click will let me sent it anywhere. This way I can use one drone to bomb regularly some pool and the other to be used where it is needed.

personally i dont like the idea of any method to make the drone bomb the same area over and over without the player doing anything, micro becomes macro
Title: Re: drones
Post by: Sniper on February 18, 2010, 10:40:34 AM
Oh, not that way. It only means that if you have drone ready, you can send it to beacon by double-click. If you do not move beacon, it means that you dont have to move the mouse to same area again and again and only use double click. That is all.

Note: on the other hand pro-players can use drones so good that they are still on run or rearming. It is only matter of management. It is the question if it is positive to place unreasonable obstructions to not-pro-players. For good score you will nearly never use repeated run on same place :-)

oh i see what you mean, yeah actually that's pretty good, it'd be useful for example if there's one deep crater then you can bomb it, then when you see it filling up double click and the run begins again

Wow :o, then you would save almost two seconds of your valuable time because you don't have to aim the drones.

But it's quasi useless, Virgil would better put it's time in building CW 2 and searching for world peace.

But we better get back to the original topic
Title: Re: drones

Let me clarify this once and for all, when u say, "only those who call someone else an insult are that insult" applies to the people doing the insult.   The saying itself is not really an insult cause it can be said in a way as not to be directed at anyone, or about anything in particular.

Back to the subject of this topic.
It would be cool to be able to set where a drone would bomb, or a path it would bomb, and then just send it on its way, then whenever u want to send it u just double click the appropriate fully loaded drone base.    or haveing them set to auto bomb, as in u select where they will bomb, they go on their bombing run, come back and rearm, and go back out without ever having to be clicked would be cool.   But as Virgil has said before this would then make it act a bit more like the blaster or motor.

Virgil designed each weapon to be specifically different, this would turn the drone base into an unlimited range motor petty much.  So it might not be the greatest idea.

TheBuilder: in my point of view, the problem is that drones already are autobombing m achines - in the hands experienced players who are masters in micromanagement.

On the other hand we have beginners and mid-experienced players for which it is only another obstacle which must be controlled. And the IMHO most important question is - "Is this game's goal to make fun or to frustrate with unnecessary obstacles?"
