This map combines several ideas into one, and should be enjoyable and challenging. Leave a comment and tell me what you think.
Well, sorry if I don't think that every custom map needs to be perfectly symmetrical. I just highly doubt that a planet you landed on was shaped like that when you go there, with a big funnel leading down from a volcano, that's smart. <insult removed by forum moderator>
umm.... i have no idea why he said that. don't be mean! and of course all custom maps don't need to be symmetrical, but some authors like the look, or maybe just think they're more fun.
<insult removed by forum moderator> put an artifact in his level, JUST TO YELL AT ME!
that is correct, his messages to complain about my maps were bugging me... what gets me is why he still tried this map, even though he's been constantly complaining about how much my map suck.
If you do not like the way a map maker makes his map, I find the best thing to do is to not play them... Pretty simple if you ask me. There are many many mapmakers out there. More than 3000! Take your pick.
And for your information I like symmetrical maps, or at least orderly ones. You can see that in my maps. Other people like different things, and you can see it in their maps. Find someone with the same preferences as you.

It is a shame that you would limit yourself artificially like that, when the game is so multi-faceted and rich when exercised to its fullest potential.
Now that I have played one of Ebon Heart's maps maps I can critic this map myself. And I have nothing negative to say. This was a very well made map, and one of the ways I can tell this is by the "limiting factors" (yes I am in biology right now) that Ebon used on the map to keep us, the player from advancing to quickly.
Spoiler
Firstly, the funnel brings creeper to the city early, forcing you to build a blaster to stop it's flow. Secondly, both the creeper from the sides and from the volcanoe threaten to overrun your position if you do not do something about it. And lastly, (the one I managed to avoid), the walls erode, releasing the creeper into very sensitive collector territory, which could eventually get to the city if nothing is done. Because of the lack of a reactor tech, the only way you can keep increasing your energy is by advancincing.
(Information on gameplay of this map)
Also, may I ask Landscaper, why you decided to complain about this specific map maker's maps, while I would have to say the majority of maps out there are "artificial". Chronum maps are perfect if you wish for a "natural" appearance; that is exactly what they are made to look like. And there a couple million of them.
I very much enjoyed this map, and will likely play more of your maps in the future. Thank you for making this map.
thanks! glad you liked it. A lot of tweaking went into it.
I kind of used a bunch of ideas all at once... I really liked the walls with the spaces in the middle myself, keeping the creeper out of them makes the differnce between 1 minute of safety, and 8.
Very well thought out and very fun to play :)
Fisherck: Creeper is defiantly not a limiting factor ;) Have you already talked genetics, that's what I am starting my kids on next week ;D

I should have known better than to use a biology term here. ;) Now you got me to look in my textbook for the definition. ;D
Limiting factor: A factor or limiting resource is a factor that controls a process, such as organism growth or species population, size, or distribution. The availability of food, predation pressure, or availability of shelter are examples of factors that could be limiting for an organism.
Kind of ironic in this game, because humans are the only species that really ignore these "factors", and the same thing is the case here...
I think that creeper would be a limiting factor, it limits your expansion, and therefore, limits availability of resources.
alright, we get it, creeper might be a limiting factor. Still, some map editors make maps that look like objects, and they're symmetrical for a reason. Like Spiffen's maps for example. Ebon's maps aren't really modeled after anything, they almost look like natural occurrences, but they're all symmetrical, and so unnatural. and Ebon is SO OCD it drives me nuts! He made the guy that was testing this map for him restart so he could slim a section off a wall.
I'm going to play this - if for no other reason that comment way up there.
I personally love to play symmetrical maps and - where I can - build symetrically as I go.
(NOTE: see 99.9% of SPIFF's maps - great stuff!)
@Ebon_Heart,
Thank you for taking the time to create some fun for the rest of us.

OK - that wasn't too hard to figure out, now was it?
I imagine the Admins can figure out who "landscaper" really is pretty quickly.
Excellent game!
5x5
I was able to build out with exact symetrical precision - then your energy bolts at the end were the perfect finishing touch.
That 'Artifact' message cracked me up.
Thanks again.

I have to play his one just for the artifact........
Is it sad how I'm not surprised landscaper found the artifact? Yet he's been complaining about my maps.... why play them?!
I wouldn't dwell too much about what others think of you or your maps. You have people that enjoy playing your maps and feel that you should keep making them (myself included) :)

Concur!
Just continue to march and enjoy the fun you're passing on.
<Rude words> those who want to denigrate your efforts.
