I am still a newbie here, so I am sure someone can fill me in on these details:
What exactly is a group? Is it like a clan of people or people you may know? Is it more casual than a clan? When you post your scores or look at other peoples you get this option, and the ability to compare scores within the group...if it is like a clan, why are there no clan sections or threads. Anyone with the answer my cluelessness would be great.
A Group is basicly so that you can compare scores with other people without searching through long lists.
If you have a group of friends you can all come up with a group name and use that when you post scores. So long as you don't share this group name with others, only members of the group will know what you use. This allows just your private set of friends to compare scores amongst yourselves. In this use case, you should try to use a group name that is very unique.
The reason something like this exists is that there are often small sets of players (like students at a school or university, co-workers, etc) that like to play and compete with each other. But, none of them are "world class" players. So, they will use a group name so that they can compare scores just amongst themselves.

As opposed to "somewhat unique?" :P It has always been my understanding that "unique" cannot accept a modifier. Something either is unique or it is not.
Next we can argue about the FAA definition of "near miss" events. :)

Indeed.... if only people could be as literal as compilers.... we could eliminate phrases such as "very unique" and "past history". (Or should that be; "very unique" or "past history") :)
When everybody would use a unique group name, every group would consist out of just 1 member, so I recommended the use of slightly unique group names. ;)
Groups could also be used by only one person so if that person is not at the top of the scores list you can find it by making a group for only yourself. Also then when you find your friends or when they cw, you can compare old scores instead of making new ones.
