Title: Weekly history tournament - Radiohead birthdays - closing Nov. 21
Post by: Kapoios on November 15, 2010, 03:55:10 PM
The them I've picked for this week is:

Radiohead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiohead) birthdays

The maps to be played before Sunday November 21 at midnight (forum time) are:

MapRadiohead member
Birthday
Instruments

1.Thom Yorke
7 October 1968 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=9&day=7&year1=1&year2=9&year3=6&year4=8)
vocals
2.Jonny Greenwood
5 November 1971 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=10&day=5&year1=1&year2=9&year3=7&year4=1)
guitars, keyboards
3.Ed O'Brien
15 April 1968 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=3&day=15&year1=1&year2=9&year3=6&year4=8)
guitars
4.Colin Greenwood
26 June 1969 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=5&day=26&year1=1&year2=9&year3=6&year4=9)
bass
5.Phil Selway
23 May 1967 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=4&day=23&year1=1&year2=9&year3=6&year4=7)
drums

Interestingly, despite their being my favourite band, I didn't know they were all around 40-something. I expected them to be about 5 years younger. I also thought that from the Greenwood brothers, Jonny was older.

See here (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=4621.0) for the rules, an overview of themes and previous tournaments and the overall ranking.

Please post your progress/total scores in this topic to ease the calculations at the end of the week.

Good luck!

Here are my scores, I don't think I can improve them much more, but here they are.  ;)

2.5 November 19712:109651

Well I quoted the table, but hopefully I'll be able to learn how to make my own eventually.  ;D

Oh, and Wally, "5.   23 Mai 1967   14 min 437 sec   8030" don't you mean 43 seconds? ;)

Map   Date                  Time    Score
1   October 7, 1968      1:17    9790
2   November 5, 1971    2:14    9641
3   April 15, 1968          6:55    8966

Maybe the best I can do - tried some way too many times - as usual, I'm missing some (maybe) simple concept.

Looks like you'll be picking next weeks tournament theme Colin! :) Better start thinking about it, so you can send Kapoios a PM in time. Please consider this when doing so:

2. When selecting the theme yourself just pick one from the list (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=4621.0) or think of one yourself. Please make sure it will appeal to a wide variety of players.
3. When selecting the dates of maps to be played make sure these maps haven't been played before. I would also check if you're not posting too many fools mates maps (maps that can be finished without engaging the creeper at all), but that's a personal preference.
4. Try to include some interesting data about the selected events/dates, see previous tournaments for an example.

Well, it is a little bit early to declare victory, but I will decide on
what the next themes will be in the event that I take second place.  ;)

My scores:

Map   Date                  Time    Score
1   October 7, 1968      1:21      9779
2   November 5, 1971    1:59    9679
3   April 15, 1968          5:04    9221
4   June 26, 1969         1:54     9692
5   May 23, 1967          4:00    9374
   TOTAL                47745

That'll be my final scores this week.
On map 3 a huge improvement ist still possible. But I'm not so certain about map 5 (It should be possible to cut 30 secs or so off...).

Heh, I was actually planning to replay those two. I knew they both had potential for massive improvement. I meant, however, to do that a bit earlier in the week. They can still be improved significantly (especially that 5'00'', but I don't like that map), so I apologise, hi, for posting them so late. I didn't mean to snipe.

So, here are my scores. I will most likely not play the maps more. Though you never know.

Thanks for considering me, gang, but I seem to have hit a wall, of sorts. Maybe next week. Always glad to learn from my betters.

I meant to try to beat hi's scores, but I didn't have enough time today.

@ Ctuna: Maybe next time Ctuna, getting first place all the time is a bad thing,
because when you win, you don't learn as much as when you loose!  :)

If that's true, I must be learning loads. :)
