I expect I did exactly what you did in the end. I tried a few different ways but only one was sustainable. I think many people will read spoilers before giving it a go so I'll wait a while to see what other creative solutions there may be :-)
I'm not a great player as evidenced by my time. I am persistent though. Really enjoyed the start and appreciate the nice gift you left in the northeast corner.
Yeah, this is indeed a really, really cool map. I suspect that there are multiple viable starting points once you get what you need from the middle. The six conversion bombs were very gracious and make it much easier to gain a foothold. I picked the lower left base and was able to hold off the creeper easily with what I'm guessing are multiple maxed totems.
The threat from the spores was adequate, and the mile-deep creeper made it a nice challenge.
