Post by: thepenguin on August 20, 2010, 05:11:48 PM
would anybody want to use animated .gif files for custom maps?

if it was possible.

I'm not sure, but I think thats pretty impossible..  Gotta have support for many small gif's or the whole background as a laaarge gif which gonna be many many MB's

Had been cool tho.. river stream, blinking lights on cars.. many possibilities :)

Paintable textures would be awesome, 3 frame 32x32 gif for a river stream ;)

the only problem is that some newbie would make flashing black and white (with black creeper of course)

and the level would look horrible

it's not the worst thing in the world but it would be great for rivers and other stuff like it

As long as the .gif is not animated.

well, I would hope that the gifs could be animated, but that's a bit harder than just image compression

I support the .gif extension as, if my memory is right, only png and jpg files could be used. However, I am NOT supporting the animated version.

the .gif extension is not supported, but I think animation might be nice, if used correctly
(after a certain ammount of time a solution could appear)

(example interval 10 seconds)
