Title: Custom Maps linked to folder.
Post by: LanceChristophr on July 09, 2010, 12:35:04 AM
Hey. New guy posting here... have played through the whole game a few times, and a bunch of custom maps but one thing irritates me with the custom maps.

Forgive me if it's already been posted but.... wouldn't it be a great idea if there was just one specific folder just for custom maps that would update on startup or with a 'refresh' button?
It's irritating having to download maps and then bring them into the game-- or even at least a batch way to import downloaded maps.

Just a thought  ;)

There are about 2500 maps at this moment. Downloading all new maps every time I start the game is the last thing I want! I only want to pick the maps I really want to play.

You can download all map in 1 zipfile if you like, but CW will become rather slow, so I wouldn't recommend it. See here: http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=897.0 (never understood why that thread is in the gameplay board by the way)

That's not what I meant at all. I just mean as you download maps you put them in a specific folder... and said folder is linked to your game. Because currently you have to click "Import Custom Map" and import each map one by one.... it's tedious seeing as I download probably a good 15-20 maps at a time.

If the Custom Maps page were told to check a folder on your comp for new maps, deleted maps, updated maps each time it'd be easier. Not at all downloading all of the custom maps out there!!  :)

There is just such a folder...
%appdata%/CreeperWorld/customgames
If you have a map there, it will show up on your custom games screen.

Every time you open the custom map screen or used the import button this screen is refreshed automatically from the folder as indicated above by mthw2vc. You can copy maps there yourself or use the import function which copies them there for you (the files get a different unique name though). This info was also mentioned in the link I provided in my earlier post....

i don't have such folder... checked the target folder in program files and there's no 'customgames' folder.

i'll try a search

Just copy this into the address bar of your folder-viewing program.
%appdata%/CreeperWorld/customgames
It should take you directly to where the custom maps are kept.
EDIT: Sorry, the previous post had a very small typo in it and as such brought up your error message. It wasn't supposed to have a space between creeper and world. It's fixed now.

If you tell us which operating system you use, we can tell you what the exact folder location is.

I have windows XP

For the custom maps I just created a 'Maps' folder and was uploading them individually

Okay, in that case your custom map folder is:

c:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Application Data\CreeperWorld\customgames

You can copy cwm-files here manually one by one, or a whole batch at once. I hope that answers your question.

When I go into Documents & Settings I see my username and an all users folder.... in each I'm not given application data and in all of the subfolders in there I don't even see a CreeperWorld folder.

Strange :(

'Application Data' might be a hidden or system folder. You can change your Windows Explorer options to display hidden/system files and folders as well.

It's easier however to just copy & paste the path into the address bar of your Windows Explorer like mthw2vc already suggested.

Use %appdata%/CreeperWorld/customgames or c:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER\Application Data\CreeperWorld\customgames, both will work.

Copying and pasting did work. Idk why I didn't think of trying that ni the first place  ::)

Thanks guys, this definitely helps a lot!!  ;D
