Bare engines are forgivable, though costly. I suppose if those cannons were defensive and the particle beams weren't overtaxed (implying that the MK7s were leaving some energy) that this could work ... a little.

Oh, no energy reserves. Each MK7s shoot once and the ship is empty. It becomes defenseless.
