Any hints what this hidden finesse is, I'm not seeing it ?

I'm guessing the "hidden finesse" is going straight down from the top, using guppies as relays. If you're all about getting the fastest time, you could probably micromanage units and fly mortars, sprayers, cannons, etc. to the center and try to knock out the core since it doesn't emit a lot of creeper.

The main challenge for this map is just getting a foothold. Once you do that, it's just a long slog. It would've been nice if there had been some way to just win by surviving for 15-20 minutes, since that's essentially the end of the test to see if you qualify for "expert" or not. After that point, you shouldn't need to pause or save the game. Just let it run and move slowly & safely. Or go for a faster time if that's your thing.

The excessive digitalis makes for an interesting approach to pushing, so besides the challenging start, I like this map for that reason as well.
