I started off with my CN just south of the mountain, and I put a shield on top of the mountain.

I started in the lowest section on the bottom, with the CN in the bottom-right of the hole. Collectors filled the hole with blasters on the level above (north) of it kept the creeper at bay until I could build a few pink energy thingies. From there it was a slog.
