It makes me think of some kind of old-fashioned hair creme for men. I can't quite remember the name.
Vitalis? Something like that. Might still be around, idk.
So was 'Creeper'.... at least that was one of the inspirations for the name. Everyone (the uninformed everyone) now assumes it has something to do with Minecraft. But CW1 predates Minecraft Creepers. The term Creeper was actually inspired by three things:
- The bad guys in some TD games were sometimes referred to as 'Creeps'.
- The red weed in War of the World was also referred to as the Red Creeper.
- Virginia Creeper is a vine native to these parts (east coast USA). Some people confuse it with poison ivy and avoid it. But Virginia Creeper has 5 leaves and is harmless.
When it came time to name Digitalis, the plant connection made good sense. It also has the word "Digital" embedded within it, so that sealed the deal.
What's more, digitalis (foxglove) is used to regulate the heartbeat. And digitalis acts as a kind of "faster heartbeat" for creeper.
You'd be surprised at the number of things in the world which are actually references to other things.

It most definitely effects my heartbeat, whenever I see it. (Jumps, sinks, speeds up, and I think it may actually stop at times.) :D
I had always assumed "Creeper" came from "Creeps" in other TD games and DOTA. Seemed like it was becoming a standard term in the game community.
Digitalis, I assumed was just a "made up" form of the word "Digital" due to the nature of how it reacted to the world compared to Creeper.

Wouldn't it be better to call the Creeper Digitalis and the Digitalis Creeper? The digitalis acts as kind of a vine for the blue stuff, like an actual creeper, and the emitters are like
