There's a ton of places that recommends builds. Always a good place to start.
Today my eyes fell on the Maximum PC recommended builds for October 2013 (http://www.maximumpc.com/build_pc_recommended_builds_october_2013).
I was intrigued by the high base price of their lowest tier build (http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u160416/october2013_baseline.png), since I'm pretty sure I can put together a really nice PC for around $700 (OS excluded). Theirs came in a few hundred higher. What did catch my interest was how closely their mid-tier PC (http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u160416/october2013_performance.png) tracked the configuration Virgil and I arrived at for his next build.
Their top-tier PC (http://www.maximumpc.com/files/u160416/october2013_ultra.png) just seems like a hole waiting for people to throw money into.
Exactly why I plan on coming here when I build my next computer.
I have no experience with price/performance on stuff so coming here would be best I'd think. :D
LifeHacker published their parts lists for a $300, $600 and $1,300 PC today. Pretty interesting.
