As soon as the gateway digs through to the surface from the top right chamber I'm completely overrun. No matter what I try.
I share your pain
I struggled like mad during approval to beat this map.

I made a rush for the three red gems and then got some phantom coils. To contain the thread from the top emitter I needed one mortar and two blasters.
With shields, two mortars and two blasters could contain the eruption through the dig site. It's only a brief threat if you can beat back the compressed creeper. Getting energy was a constant struggle, I had to carefully plan out the maximum dig sites I could get - even on the far right, never forgetting the phantom attacks.
I would have liked to get some AC going, but the cost of makers and mines just seemed too excessive. I don't know.
