If you can get to where the screenshot below shows, you should be able to hold back the creeper with drones and build other stuff.

Got it, thank you.

The thing is to send three drones in quite early because you need several flights to see any effect.
Build three more and send them in when the other three return.

If your name is not IkeaPimp :-) build one or two blasters on the left and right to keep the creeper from reaching your base until the drones cleared enough creeper.
