Somewhere, in the unknown depths of Redacted Space, a large whirlpool of exotic particles spins into existence. Its resonance holds the feeble exotic particles together long enough for several dozen objects to fall through the portal; within moments, the wormhole dissipated and disappeared from sight, leaving the confused... ships(?) to figure out where, and more importantly, when they have been deposited.

Cpt Balcora: Astrometrics, report!

Officer: Captain, this... this makes no sense! The stars are all out of whack... it will take weeks to be able to extrapolate their positions to match our star charts.

Cpt Balcora: Damn. This may be more serious than I thought. Is it possible that the wormhole took us to another galaxy?

Cmd Nova: No, this is definitely the Milky Way. Just not our Milky Way.

Cpt Balcora: Wait, are you saying...?

Queen Jhanella: Yes, it is... possible that we have crossed the... interdimensional threshold... into a parallel Universe.

Cpt Balcora: I would have thought parallel Universes have, like, our evil counterparts in it or something. This is completely different than our dimension.

Scout "Stealth": I apologize for the interruption... but I can sense something approaching...

Queen Jhanella: It's not a single presence... it is a swarm... guided by its own will... this is peculiar...

Cmd Nova: Peculiar or not, those things are bee-lining for our ships. Squadron, adopt defensive stance and prime weapons.

Cpt Balcora: Pick your targets and engage. If those things had peaceful intentions, they would've put on the brakes by now.

Queen Jhanella: As you wish... just don't blame me if this turns out... to be a miscommunication...

The plasma-based weaponry these vessels were equipped with dealt horrific damage to the incoming Particulates, destroying multiple Particulates with every shot. Once the swarm was temporarily exhausted, the ships didn't hesitate to immediately jump into hyperspace, heading unknown.

GoodMorning

<Sensor>: <Analyser>? Punch-transit. Nothing too large, but it's taken a hyperspace transit; so probably intelligent. Avoided the galactic core, but with the course it's on, it could end up anywhere. Nice tech, internal hyperdrives, going quite deep into gravity wells. It's still playing merry hob with their course, though.

<Analyser>: Keep an eye on it.

------------------------------------------

In a forgotten system, within an abandoned part of Redacted Space, the fleet of extradimensional interlopers has taken refuge within a large, hollow asteroid. The ships had affixed themselves to the inner walls of the asteroid's central chamber whilst the strange ovoid vessels mined the asteroid for usable ores. Luckily, one the cruisers had onboard ore refineries, and soon a grand station was under construction within the safety of the rocky asteroid.

On the bridge of the squadron's flagship, Captain Balcora was steadily handling numerous reports and sensor readings which could indicate how they ended up in a parallel Universe; hours passed, and no luck was to be had. Balcora's second-in-command, Commander Nova, interrupted her meticulous scanning of data pads with the offer of a coffee, freshly replicated.

"Ah, thanks, Nova," the Captain said, putting the data pads aside in order to embrace the hot coffee mug. Nova sat down next to her, glancing out of the main viewscreen at the construction work beyond.

"Quite the situation we've gotten ourselves into this time, eh?"

"You can say that again," Balcora sighed, taking a sip of her coffee. "But, it's not the worst situation we've ever been in. I'd rather take an interdimensional trip than face another Reaper fleet."

"Hah, I suppose you're right," Nova chuckled.

A loud clunk suddenly resounded through the hull, and a bright cyan light flooded the bridge through the viewscreen as the Heteroclite Queen known as Jhanella filled the view. She chuckled slightly the reactions of the slightly startled bridge crew.

"Captain... I have uploaded the construction report... to your terminal, as you... requested," the Heteroclite said with a raspy, mechanized voice. Balcora sighed; more reports to look over, like a stream of data that never ended.

"Great. Thanks, Jha. Say, when you have the time, could you scout the nearby asteroid field? I believe there are some dense 'roids there that have some of the heavier elements we need," Balcora asked the Queen, who nodded in return.

"Of course... the veins here were starting to run dry anyway..." Detaching herself from the hull of the flagship, Jhanella tucked her tentacles between her ovoid arches and sped away toward another group of Heteroclites that had just finished off a rich aluminium vein. Moments later, they all left the asteroid.

"Well," Balcora started, gulping down the last bit of coffee in her mug, placing it down with the others amid the chaotic pile of data pads, "I need to get back to work."

Nova nodded, smirking to himself.
"Just don't burn yourself out. Delegate some tasks if you have to..."

"Agh, that's what coffee was invented for," Balcora chuckled. "Though if you're free, I need someone to go down to engineering and berate the fools who are tampering with the conduit plasma flow on the bridge... it's absolutely roasting in here."

Nova laughed out loud, collecting the small pile of coffee mugs beside the Captain's chair before leaving.

(The freaking Hydraxil always ruining everything...) AI, please scan what we're supposed to destroy.

Right away, sir. Four fighters, a dreadnought and an unknown ship detected.

How about capturing that unknown ship? It is barely armed for anything.

Whatever we can achieve...

Let's attack them from the front, the dreadnought is at the back.

Going in!

17 seconds later...

BLITZKRIEG!!!

---Enemy fighter destroyed---
---Enemy Progenitor destroyed---
---Enemy dreadnought destroyed---

Surrender immediately!

---CANNOT WARP AWAY, FRACTAL REACTOR DESTROYED... POWER FAILURE IN 3... 2... 1...---

AI... We've got ourselves our own Hydraxil AI! We can do whatever we want with it! Hold on, lemme just download Notepad++ ver4.16.35... Done! Get the storage from the ship! Send the science team to investigate.

Scientists going in.

If it is physically stored in the ship, we'll be happy with whatever we find. If it's empty, at least we have the ship we can reverse-engineer.

"Weapons fire detected, not far from here," shouted the tactical officer from his terminal. "Looks like ballistic and missile-based weaponry for the most part. Fairly primitive signature."

Balcora stood up to regard the officer, throwing the data pad she was holding to the side.

"Bring up the sensor manager," the Captain ordered as she jogged to the holographic table found in the middle of the bridge. Several red pings indicated the location of the weapons fire, along with some other graphics depicting detected wreckage and active power signatures. "Can you get a read on those power signatures, are they anything recognizable?"

"Afraid not, the nearby asteroid field is causing some interference," replied the tactical officer. "Unless we can get a closer look, of course."

"I don't know if that's a good idea," Balcora frowned, glancing back and forth between the sensor manager and the tactical officer. "We really shouldn't get involved in a fight that has nothing to do with us. However, if they have such simplistic weapons, our shields should be able to deflect anything they throw at us..."

Nova had meanwhile returned to the bridge, quickly approaching the holographic table. He glanced over the data for a moment, almost bursting into laughter.

"Come on, ballistic weapons? Clearly these people can't be that advanced if they haven't even developed simple plasma weaponry," Nova chuckled. "I say we go have a look, see what's happened, and if things go south, we can always fall back here. What do you say?"

"Hmm." Balcora looked around at the other officers posted on the bridge, all of their eyes now centred on the Captain. There had been a distinct monotony to things around here whilst the construction work went on, with half the ship's personnel having little to do other than sift through data, which Balcora knew was boring as hell. At least some exploration would do them some good, she reasoned. "Fine. Get Jhanella back here too, I think she'd be up for some First Contact. Everyone else, prepare the ship for hyperspace."

A cheer echoed around the bridge, with the newly invigorated crew darting to their normal stations. Nova smirked again, catching Balcora's eye as she looked up from the sensor manager; she shook her head with a smile, beckoning over to the Captain's and Commander's chairs located in front of the viewscreen. The ship rumbled as they took their seats, the engine core thrumming to life once more. Soon enough, Queen Jhanella returned from her expedition early, clear as excited about the prospect of First Contact as the crew was, joining the flagship in formation as they flew out of the asteroid and jumped into hyperspace.

Moments later, they dropped out of hyperspace near the power signatures to greet them. The flagship led the way:

...with the Heteroclite Queen Jhanella following closely behind, keeping her eye trained on the alien ships:

"Greetings, this is Captain Balcora of the TDF flagship Trigoris' Wrath. We come in peace."

OOC: At the end of my map called "Cooperative Formation", the HDF forces fight with an assimilated ally of theirs, a Hydraxian elder named Hythar (who was recently captured and interrogated for the Beacon, which was used to summon the Citadels). Defeating the Hydraxil fleet and disabling Hythar's ship, the HDF held the ship in the Scaffold whilst they worked to try and reverse his reprogramming. It succeeded, freeing Hythar from the Collective's grasp, and since then he has been doing the same to other, more vulnerable Hydraxil ships.
