Oh boy oh boy oh boy. Was that fun!

So, I'm having a little contest!

Anyone that beats the map, and wipes out the "Endboss" (it has 1000 eps) should post a screenshot of the remain fleet.
If you beat or match my final fleet count (Mine was 16 - I lost 1 vessel (http://i.imgur.com/vtNyr0y.png)) with a completion time of less than 1 hr, you get to name my next map and any ship for that map! (Communitee guidelines must be followed)

If more than one of you can do it, I'll name the subsequent maps in order of contest submission.

Also, anyone like the little star animation I made? It twinkles!

I have ~170 maps to go before I get to it, give me some time.

I've found that (now the post-release glut is over) I gradually fall behind, then play a bunch in a few days. I'm gradually getting closer to the present, but most maps seem forgotten by the time I arrive.

map clear: 53:45, "boss" clear: ~57:10, no ships lost.

Ugh....I need a break. I'll comment more later when I've had some coffee :P

And then you 'revive' them when playing and give feedback.
As far as i know you are the only one who plays all maps and give feedback [with PF]. I think thats great!!
I thought of doing also but i just don't have the time to play all and make some maps so i stick with making maps and play occasionally.

I try to say something only when I have something to say. With that being said, having played every preceding map (in a more or less mediocre way) does give me a sizeable reference pool. Although it may be skewing my more recent opinions - I can't help but improve with practice.

"When I have something to say" comes into play now, so I shall halt use of this thread until I reach the map.

So, interesting map mechanics and a challenge for sure. I like the lose ships forever mechanics and it would be interesting to see more maps that uses it. Actually it would have been cool to have had this added to the base game as a "hardcore" setting or something but I'm guessing it might be too late to implement such features at this stage.  The mechanics does require more carefully balanced maps though as random destruction never is much fun. Especially cannons would be hard to balance and/or in this case the superstrong particles.

Twinkling stars were cool, once i noticed them that is...  I was halfway thru the map and had destroyed several of these annoying "invisible" things Before I noticed that they actually were not invicible :P  I never really understood what they did though, make struc?

Boss design was cool but the battle felt pretty underwhelming. A more tactical approach with maybe cannons on the land behind him that you would convert had been more fun for me atleast.

The "contest" was a fun idea and I could not pass up on the challenge even though I'm slowly moving away from this game as it's beginning to feel abit stale after 400+ hours played. I try to play new maps by the designers I like and Sorrontis is one of those who continuesly puts out cool stuff with new ideas. It became a tradeoff as you had to chose between playing safe to not lose ships vs getting a good time and as such my time isn't perticulary impressive.

I find this map hard to rate. All in all I think that each idea and mechanic of the map was great and I liked the challenge but the map as a whole would have been more enjoyable (to me) if there was far fewer ships (I only used 4) and not so much focus on energy (a lot of the time was spent waiting for tanks to fill up).

Yep (4 of them), at a random rate, while the other four give you ships.

I thought about it but decided not to go for it. I think the fight with the Great Station was more fun.

It was a proof of concept - so I needed enough ships for everyone :) I agree with the energy issue, but after beating it for the third time, I didn't think about it :D

Just had to figure out the trick  :D

Ok I'll try.
Spoiler
A little trick I've figured out that I call the combo collider crash which exploits the fact that ships in motion can overlap each other, I basically synced 4 of the big shielded ships to ram the enemy ship in the middle simultaneously which let me take it out pretty fast.
And then for the end I just used AMP gem range lathes to defeat the progenitor while staying out of range of the missiles.

I've got to this map - but I'm still working on the final ship. So far all of the firepower I can muster (full fleet, but it won't all fit) has stalled at the missile clouds. I don't have the range to advance, but can hold that position. Time to come back later.

Edit: I finished it - twice. The first time, I found out that if the Progenitor survives the large ship, the mission ends in failure. The second attempt was easier, because I didn't have implied land to work around.

Full fleet, of course. Nice "stars". I initially thought they were the updated form of your ship-killer mines, but realised when trying to trigger them failed. Their footprints did remain unmoved after being lathed, limiting ship placement options.

I enjoy reading about new strategies... thanks for your tip, Chaosmaster!

As for naming maps goes - I know I'm not gonna win any contests anytime soon. Maybe after playing this for a few months... I dunno. Not much time to play these days.

I do love the idea that once you lose a ship it's gone forever. Makes your decisions more crucial. Maybe I'll try this map sometime. December might be cool.  ;)

No casualties, 37ish minutes to kill the boss ship:

The thing is that I *didn't* find all the ships, so technically I didn't complete the challenge as stated.

I killed that boss ship just a couple of minutes after mission completion.  It's really a pretty easy fight.

Honestly, while I liked the way the ships worked without being able to rebuild casualties, I just didn't really like this map all that much.  Too many cheap shots.  Too little energy.  Very little room to maneuver.  The small twinkling star things are just way too hard to spot.  It's quality work, but just not for me.

Suppress the mk 7s on a flank.
Draw his fire with a few ships.
Move that big ship shown in the screenshot up into there and drive it right through his command section.
Boom!

Yeah still kicking, just been busy.  You know how it goes ;).

Back on topic, I think I found a big bug in this mission.

I was tinkering with this, to try and actually complete the challenge by building all the ships.  I'm pretty positive that I picked up a ship, but didn't want to build it at that moment.  After a little while, I went to build that ship because that was a convenient time, and noticed that it wasn't in the ships panel anymore.  I suspect that if you don't place the ship fairly quickly, you lose the ability to build it...

Not a bug. Not a bug at all. :)

trying this map, but I can't lathe any emitters under my ships and they destroyed me, any ideas?
Why do you put enemy particles on the ships in the beginning of the maps and my lathes just don't work on anything.

hello hbarudi,

The map is one with a nasty start. The reason why? Because I'm Sorrontis and I like to make people hate me :P But seriously, its for a nice & different challenge.

As for being unable to lathe the emitters. I don't think that's normal. It is an old map, so I'll have to look at it.

THey are all flip emitters. If you can't lathe them, there's something wrong with your game.

Well, almost a year later and I decided to try this one. Pretty intense.

As others have stated about little power, cramped maneuvering space, stuff like that... I kinda agree, but I can deal with it.

Didn't notice the twinkling star thing. I picked up 2 bonus ships but didn't use them.

You're always coming up with clever ways to make people pull out their hair or go do something that will get you noticed on the local news. And that's definitely something that's worth more than just an average french fry. It's like a backwards egg!

Thanks for the map!  ;D

I've been coming back to the maps I never could beat.. and this one so far is the only one that remains that way. It is so frustrating, I feel like i've tried everything, throttling back power demands on all the ships at the beginning, just praying to get enough power just to lathe the flip emitters so I can actually play this out, but I still can;t beat that first few minutes, and just lose all my ships.  Not sure how anyone got past those flip emitters.

Yeah, I remember this map being really stressful. After I went out & robbed a few banks using only 34 cotton swabs, I felt a little more confident and beat the map. But this map was so long ago, I don't remember it either... or where I put all that cash, hmmm....
