Title: Weekly 5-Map Tournament - Great Mathematicians - Closing 09 Mar 2013
Post by: Lord_Farin on March 04, 2013, 07:28:43 AM
I stuck with a topic close to my heart (hoping to graduate in Mathematics this Summer). In addition, players who love drones will have an excellent week. The mathematicians are in no particular order.

You forgot that Fig Newton guy.

It is precisely anticipation of such comments that made me write "Great Mathematicians" and not "Greatest". I wanted freedom to pick nice maps. HF :).

...precisely...

An excellent word selection, as one might expect from a Maths major.

Cinth done drew first blood already.

[Edit]

I think it is funny that my Brit friends use "Maths" where Americans would use "Mathematics". Just trying for a little (very little) humor (humour).

Just doing a pass on the maps.  I'm sure you all will blow these early runs out the water :)

Edit: Speaking of Math Majors :)  I recently swapped from EE to Math.

Ouch! Mission #3 kicked my tookus.
I'm thinking one of those magic mirror types will get it in about 6-7 minutes.
(Good for developing humility though.)

Yeah, it's going to be a challenge to get started on 3 for sure.

Glad to pronounce that John von Neumann has been tackled a lot so far :). The bar is set very high by ea3401, very nice!

No completions just yet:

You missed my score from Euler there :/

Anywho, finished the set.  Mission 3 was a lot of fun.  I might be tempted to work on that one some more.

Cantor is a pain though ;)  heads up for those who haven't hit it yet... That big chamber on the bottom fills up fairly quickly.

I have a better time for Hilbert (4:20) but it isn't posting online.

Five contestants have completed all maps; 43 scores in total, by 13 players. Scores are getting closer to the usual realm and my own estimated maxima; I doubt 60k will be reached this week.

I doubt 60k will be reached this week.

60k is very possible.  I added up all the top scores and it is almost there (59986).

And looking at some of these times  :o

Another update. Thanks to mopa42 for proving me wrong :). Differences in score are very large at this point (except for the first two games), suggesting there is quite the room for improvement.

[EDIT: Updated again. No changes in the top-3]

Re:Strategy. For Georg Cantor, the key part of my strategy was attacking on three fronts at once at the end.
For John von Neumann, I dug in to stay safe and used primarily conversion bombs to attack emitter chambers. I used a dark beam with a bunch of mirrors to clean up the top.

I should have this week's maps up shortly.
