Hi, as i didn't understand the news yesterday i decided to translate this in french, i don't know if someone will read that, but it can help.

Correct... some french names were used to name some worlds.  A few other languages are also inspirations for some names.  Norwegian even makes an appearance.

as you see BigV, there is somes french here (i am not alone !!!!!! sorry), i think a french and german sub-forum would be welcome, isn't it? :)

LOL there are people from all over the world on the forums, why exactly wouldn't there be a Norwegian, Polish or Dutch sub forum? If there would be sub forums for every native language if there is more than 2~3 members of that nationality then no one would be able to talk to each other.

English, french, german et sometime russian are the 3 (4 with russian) most representative nation in lot of game's forum, as i said, a french and GERMAN sub-forum would be welcome.

It was a semi-"serioulsly" question (there is a smiley :p) than a asked to virgil (to my knowledge the onlyone who admin(not moderate) this forum), so why do you answer? you are not admin, moderater, french or german. i didn't injure others "people from all over the world" If they want, they can ask for a sub-forum too, i don't care :/ it's not my buisness :/

So why did you say that..... and why begin your answer with "LOL"

Because there is no way that Virgil can grant your request, however not-serious it was, without also doing the same to people of other nationalities.  I believe that there are quite a few more people who are dutch here than either german or spanish.  English will always be the primary communication language in online forums based in the US.

I am puzzled to see that mentality. Why members including the beta take these words? Do you think to people who speak other languages who bought the game and speak very little English and who encounter problems. Do you think people speaking poor English who want to invest a bit more in the community, but are discouraged by the fact of being "alone" in a place where they do not understand a sentence of two?

I really do not understand why you object to this request, what does that change for you? expand this community and will probably help people who buy the game.Nothing will change for you.
If the roles were reversed, I would argue that demand rather than reject
I'm really stunned by these reactions :/

i don't speak about a full part of forum, but  little place nammed "other language" at bottom of "misc" in main view for exemple with french gemran/dutch (in french german and dutch it's 2 word for the same country) and russian, if you don't like these forum don't read it.

But it will build a bridge between people who don't speak english who will post on these forum and ones who speak english who will help them. (sorry for this sentence i don't know if you'll understand it)

This debate is getting a little out of hand. We have heard the request for non-English forums, but we also have concerns that include (but are not limited to) the presence of a critical mass that would permit support in a native language without requiring assistance from the English-speaking developer and forum members. Since everything essentially has to go through Virgil, the ability of a few people to communicate in non-English would probably require that he incur overhead of attempting to do inferior translations with Google Translate. So the way it is now allows a shared burden of each non-English person  to perform their own translation.

It is perfectly possible to adopt the convention to create the initial post with a topic title that includes a language flag - as this topic does - and then have the original post in both the preferred language and translated to English.  That way all community members can respond if they are able to add to the conversation.

I will allow this topic to remain unlocked for one more response by the original creator (OP) and then I'm going to lock it on the basis that it seems to be causing a degree of discord that I prefer not to allow.

Once, long ago, I worked for a company based in Canada.  We had to internationalize our software since Canada had very strict english/french availability guidelines for any software sold to government.  So i18n came to mean lots of work in anything we did.  Some years later I ended up working for a company based in Israel.  The decree came down to internationalize our software.  So, I set about the task of pulling strings out into resource bundles, etc.  About a week into it, I had a meeting with the head of development over in Israel and mentioned the i18n efforts were going well and that everything would be ready to hand over to the translators very soon.  "Whoa!", was the reply I got.  "That's not what we meant... we just want to make sure the product can work when monitoring web content that contains non ascii characters".  After I pulled my head off the desk, I asked 'why'.  The response I got was that the effort it took to maintain different languages in the user interface of all of the companies products would be "substantial".

So what does that story have to do with this discussion?  Not a lot :)  But, the part about 'effort' does apply.  I know we are talking about the forums here, and not the game itself, but I still have to keep an eye on the forums as well.  Like many Americans, I speak only two languages... english and bad english (bad english being my native tongue).  I wish I could Daniel Jackson myself by uploading Rosetta Stone directly to my brain, but alas...  (Actually, I'm sometimes accused of speaking Tamarian English by those that know me the best.  But that is another story.)

Long story longer, I don't have the resources at my disposal to shepherd english only forums much less other languages. I don't read all of the english posts on the current forum, so there is no way I would get around to reading the results of my dear friend, translate.google.com.

One day soon, though, when CW3 sells it's gazillionth copy I'll hire a dedicated i18n staff and things will be different.

(Good luck running this post through google translate... I can only imagine how it will come out in other languages.)

Actually, only marginally messed up. Much less than almost anything I've seen before. Remember the travails with our Turkish friend? :P

Maybe it's the Tamarian element that eases translation. :P
