Title: Build on shields
Post by: cclloyd9785 on July 24, 2011, 01:48:41 AM
Experimentals make it easy enough already right?  So why not make it so that on any map with experimentals, you can build on shields according to the build direction.

They experiment with a new alloy from the dark dimension that runs the beam and it makes a stronger shield that can withstand stuff being built on it. (Story incase its needed to introduce the experimentals)

you could also make it a seperate item, in the experimental area.

This has been asked for many times, and the answer is still no. It would remove the requirements of..
- having to plan where to dig to maximize reactor potential.
- having to take territory to gain more energy income.

You could also plan ahead on your digging, and dig shelves for your reactors. :P

Plan ahead? What is this nonsense? I want to have a hueg shaft for me to pour anti-creeper down and throw about 64 blasters in a square down there to mop up the mess without having to funnel them all though a tiny gap, and I also want to be able to plug the hole back up afterwards and build lots of reactors there, so I can finally power 12 dark beams full time.

LOL some people need to learn about the glory of the dark mirror, one dark beam can be devastating if used right. You can beat the nexus with only 1 dark beam. Not to mention clearing out huge pits of creeper, just bounce it around a little. With 3, you can do crazy stuff. (see attachment)
EDIT: I suppose I could have just said, "see profile picture" but oh well. XD

Hmm, a shield v2 where you could build on?
A few improvements/idea's/suggestions/facts:
In experimentals tab.
Higher energy cost.
Consumes energy when something is built on it.
Easily destroyed by drones/creeper (5-40 health)
When starving it falls down (or [gravity direction]) and destroys buildings it's falling on.
If there's no gravity it destroys any building built on it.

There could be no build in almost all experemental maps.
Spoiler
Of course I knowe your kidding

I can imagine building v1 shields to protect the v2 ones  :)
Which, in second thought, makes the name 'shield' a bit awkward...

Yeah I think so to.... Maybe we should call it:

"The magical floating block that you can build stuff on!"

Spoiler
JK, but I really do think it's awkward calling it a 'shield'.

Build-Block?

I think it needs to use 0.1 energy/second and could store 2 energy
Cost: 20 energy

I anything it should use .15 energy per second for every building built on it, and disappear, destroying all the buildings on it if it runs out of energy. This would balance it perfectly. :P

I like the idea of building on shields, but I think it should be up to a map author.

That makes sense, kinda like the option to move Odin city in the first game.

I can only think of the first sentence...

So why would you need to build stuff in shields if its easy as hell in  the first place?

In that way, nothing is unpossible.

Yeah... but you still have the 60 en/sec to take into account...but that is a big #...maybe just for fun maps?
