We have added a new role to the forum. Chat room moderators. These people will be able to regulate (to a limited event) activities in the chat room. Ideally these people should be even-tempered and well-regarded members of the community.
Nominations are welcome. For starters I've nominated three people, but feel free to nominate others. You cannot nominate yourself, but you may vote for yourself. If you don't want to be a chat room mod, please let me know and I'll un-nominate you.
After voting has closed, we can add other moderators on an ad-hoc basis.
Edit: Each user has five votes. I anticipate that we will accommodate at least that many chat room mods to ensure good coverage. It is not necessary to use all of your votes when voting.
Anyone can change their vote. Click "Remove vote" and then you can vote again.
I voted for all 3 of them.
hehe.. me 2
mth might be a good moderator also.
its too hard to decide... i say all 3 ;)
yep all 3

mthw2vc has been added. Remember anyone can change their vote and everyone has 3 votes.
It could be a good thing to have 2 mods from Europe and 2 from the US, so the time zones are covered well.
Nominate away...
I'll Nominate Kamron3! :D

It still won't hurt to have nominated Ebon_Heart. He was normally a regular, however advanced math classes got in his way. Please see this thread (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=8239.0).
EDIT: Are the guys in chat happy now?

UpperKEES and MadMag have the European side of the time zones covered. I suggest we vote for me and mth for the US side of the time zones! After all, we *are* in there a lot.
Plus, I have EXPERIENCE unlike the rest of these silly nominations! I've been a chat mod before! Kidding aside, I actually have been a forum mod and a chat mod before Virgil moved the moderating "in-house" to KC employees and such (Chani and Gr)
lol
Hmmm. . .
Out of the 23 current voters, there should be
a possible 115 vote count, but there are only
a total of 87 votes.
Fascinating.
Of course, UpperKEES is the natural choice. ;)

upon receiving a message from Kamron3 I checked this out... why didn't anyone tell me I was in the running to be a chatmod? lol. I just wanted to make it clear, I will be coming back, and I do intend to spend time in chat like I used to. it's just that right now, we're getting a new batch of LTG's/International Trustees in key club and I'm making bios/helping some International Trustees with websites..... Somehow I got stuck making the website for California's International Trustee? :/

From time to time a new member (or even one of the long-time members) goes off the rails and posts a lot of images, rolls the dice excessively, invites other members to join him/her on another website where the inviting member can get points, or any one of a number of other annoying techniques commonly referred to as "spamming chat."
All but the abuse of the dice rolls can be prevented by simply placing the offending member on "ignore." However, the custom in chat rooms is that the offending member should be publicly flogged, hauled through the streets tied to the stocks and then thrown out of the city (chat room). Only a mod can do this. Additionally, mods can rewrite history by deleting past messages, thus pretending something never happened.
In the light of allowing the people their circuses (and yes, I'm mixing metaphors), we have decided that as an experiment, we would allow the citizens of chat to elect their own governors. If the experiment fails, democracy's tender shoot will be crushed under my authoritarian jackboot (Another mixed metaphor.)
It is also an interesting social experiment. One of the many reasons to frequent online communities. What the experiment shows, is of course dependent on the viewpoint of the observer.

I believe a good chat mod intervenes as little as possible. Just being in chat should be enough to keep a happy atmosphere. Over the past 2 years we've hardly ever had the need for a chat mod, so it's just in case.
Like a doorman at a club (yes Echo, I like going out ;)) most issues should be solved by talking instead of fighting or other drastic measures.
That said I don't like it when interesting conversations continuously get interrupted by someone obviously trolling and/or spamming, so I won't accept that.

Kamron3 is disqualified for voting fraud.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vote_early_and_vote_often
Any votes cast for Kamron3 will not count. Since I had to spend time looking at the database, inspecting IP addresses, and cleaning up accounts I'm not in a particularly peachy mood currently and am mulling over other actions.
After discussing this with Kamron3, it appears that the flurry of zero post accounts created in the last 24 hours which only voted for him, were in fact people from a school that he campaigned to vote for him. This doesn't violate any stated conditions of the poll. Naturally, I prefer for people that will be participating in the chat to elect who they want to moderate the chat, but some of these new users may participate in the chat.
I also realize this could open up the doors for everyone to ask their friends and relative to vote for them. So be it... but I will at this point make the following addendum to the poll.
I will tabulate the final results and I will only count votes from forum accounts that have some minimum number of posts. In other words, accounts created just to vote won't end up counting in the results. New accounts created that are just early, but active, participants in the forums will of course count.
I apologize to Kamron3 for assuming the accounts were personally created by him. If I had checked the common IP address on all of the accounts I would have seen they all came from the same school.
To clarify: am I still disqualified or am I still allowed to run?
Disqualification is off. Disdisqualified, or I suppose simply qualified :)

Okay then. Now, can we get back to the topic of voting and nominating?
I would suggest that what Kamron did was equivalent to having out-of-town carpetbaggers* come in to vote. Now that this behavior has been exposed, there are two questions that remain.
1. Will he have the chutzpah to still want to be included in the vote?
2. Will the regular members of the forum want to be moderated by someone who was elected by people with no skin in the game?
I call on Kamron to voluntarily withdraw from the election and for all regular forum members to withdraw their votes from Kamron. For those that frequent these forums and want to vote for Kamron, I'd like to hear what they think he brings to the table after this deplorable incident.
*From Merriam-Webster (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/carpetbagger) definition for carpetbagger:
outsider; especially : a nonresident or new resident who seeks private gain from an area often by meddling in its business or politics

It is clear that my sense of ethical behavior differs from yours. :) The "misunderstanding" was with whether the handles registered to vote belonged to Kamron. As it was, they were not Kamron's, but outsiders he asked to register, specifically to vote on his behalf.
As a chat room user, do you want a mod that was voted on by people that will never be in chat? And why would anyone want to be a mod so badly that they would ask people from school to register purely to vote?

Not really. It does not effect the voters in any way. A better comparison would be having someone from Europe come over to the US and vote on the person they want, and then go back to Europe. The end result of the vote does not effect them in any way. :)
False, Fish. They were actually previous players of CW:US and a few played CW:TS. Who says they wouldn't have came back? I pitch CW/CW2 to them all the time.
All of them have played CW:US or CW:TS to some extent.
friend of kamron here, he be legit. he nags us to play these all the time.
To me it remains cheating. It doesn't matter if they have played CW:TS or CW:US; they have never joined the forums or chat before and I think it should be the CW community who decides.
It is cheating, and I will never be modded by Kamron, but that has little to do about the cheating actually.

It's not all about the rules themselves, but also about the ethics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethics) implied by them. If you aren't capable of understanding these, you're not capable of making appropriate decisions.
I'll change my vote to do the closest thing next to voting against Kamron (well almost).
His "cheating" in the vote might be not good, but it is tolerable. But his behaviour, after that came out, is not.
I am not 100% sure what this vote is about. Is it about "voting chat moderators" oder about "checking who the community wants as chat moderators".
I hope it is the later one. Then Kam should not become chat Moderator even when he does ok in the vote.

Either way it's unfair to others. I'm not voting for him and I encourae others to do so. Either way, I'm done. I'm not going to discuss my opinion any more, at least not openly.
great who wants to talk about how fun chat acually is?

Everyone had the same opportunity to ask friends to vote. I did not have any advantage over any other member of the forums in that regard.

Even if it is unjust hatred.
No it's not hate it's anger at you and your behavior. >:( Can't you see the signs, no one wants you as chat mod now.

Look at the quote by me ic ould hae asked a freiend to recommend me as a chat mod, I didn't but i could have now lets move on...
Agreed. To change the subject, chat is awesome! Unless there is more then four people... ;)
EDIT: Kamron has said he is sorry and feels bad about what he did. He also is upset about all the negative posts about him. I really think we should cut him some slack.

EDIT: Kamron has said he is sorry and feels bad about what he did.
then I recomend that he do something to fix it.
Let us all focus on the nomination and proposal for legitimate chat room moderators. No more solicitation of votes. If you want to be a chat room mod, I suggest you solicit votes in chat.
I think you're all blowing this waaay out of
proportion. Its not like this is a presidential
campaign, this is a "call for chat room
moderators".
The whole point of a chat mod will be to
reduce instances like this, and drama in
the Chat room.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
HOWEVER, THE AMOUNT of their opinions
they state is what differs from most people.
Cool off. Take a walk.* Vote for who you
want, and that is your vote, not someone
else, yours.

In due time.
Even though Asians make up only a small minority in the Creeper Nation, someone should nominate a user that is in an Asian time zone to cover a gap that we have. With these nominees, someone will have to stay up 'till almost midnight in order to moderate the other side of the world's time. He doesn't need to be online all the time, right? Just often enough to ward-off any spammers.
It is a case of "if a tree falls in the woods and there is no-one to hear it, does it still make a sound?" A lone spammer in chat is of little consequence. There is no need for 24hr monitoring. But if you know a Asean-based member, please feel free to nominate them. All nominations of well-known members (by well-known members) will be considered.
I wasn't aware there was anything wrong with staying up until midnight... :P
I don't think I've ever seen more than one other person in chat during that timeframe, and scheduling isn't very difficult provided a European mod can be convinced to awaken at a reasonable hour... ;)
I have tabulated the final scores. I discarded any votes from forum members that had 0 posts. The final results after this are:
MadMag 25
UpperkEES 31
Kithros 18
mthw2vc 18
Kamron3 6
Echo51 7
Ebon Heart 11
thepenguin 10
Based on these results, the first 4 in the list should become chat mods.
Remember how this works.
As Lieutenant Rasczak from Starship Troopers says:

5th place... so close. Oh well, back to my goal of... not getting on here, and studying/working on websites instead. Which I've been failing at recently. *sigh*
EDIT: I remembered that the voting was ending today, so I got on to check on it.
cool thanks virgil
EDIT: fixed virgils name

Its easier to read if you're lines of text aren't
longer than a certain length. This way you
only have to move your eyes up and down
instead of left-to-right then back down and
all the way over to the left to continue. ;)
It is also a sort of tribute to the way SPIFFEN
types. :)
