After loading a game on the story mission "Origin" the struc no longer was recreated, and the beam cannon stopped firing, making the mission far easier than it would be otherwise. The ring of particles around the planet may also be disabled by a reload, but the ring generator had already been destroyed in the save.
Sounds like an issue with PRPL global variable loading.
