I'm starting this topic as a placeholder for non-linear Chronom maps I've played. That way, perhaps other players will play the same maps and we can compare scores and experiences:
Post interesting dates or fun maps and I'll move them to the top post. If you post a map, please help me by making the description the hyperlink and not the date, unless the only reason for the post is a fool's map with only a date - see how I formatted the other entries.
Perhaps in the fullness of time, Virgil will also implement a "follow player" feature so we can track other players to play the same maps as they have.
Well here goes:

I've added today's map as the one that can be completed fastest of all maps found to date.
Yeah, today is a "fool's mate" map (can be complete without firing a single shot). Oct 28, 1970 is another one.
I wonder how many such maps exist....
What is interesting about them is that the best score comes down to exactly where you relocate the city, and the upgrades you apply, etc.

Just found that one, but you must have taken your blindfold off to play it... :P
I'll add the "Fool's mate" category to my list.
BTW. Do you play chess and is that why you are familiar with a "Fool's mate?" If do, you of course know the difference between "Fool's mate" and "Scholar's mate?"
Well until I read the wikipedia article about it, I had no idea it was known by so many different names around the world.
I think that the Fool's mate list might end up as an very long list =P
You can add August 25 2010 (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=4461.0) to it as well =)

Shouldn't the year be 9999? The link takes me to December 0, 9999. On the site the days seem to range from 0 to 30 (instead of 1 to 31). The strange thing is that this date lists 2 scores, but when I click 'Jump to Date' without changing anything it displays an empty table.
Post it in the beta thread as well or send Virgil an note about it .

I fixed the typo but there is an error in the web page for that date.
Edit: Error is now fixed.

My birthday.

Here's a fun one.
July 19, 5612
Looks tough, but not that bad actually. Not much real estate to work with at first.
As I often do, I forgot about the spores and had no defenses when they came the first time. :( Luckily I got away with very little damage.

You're right, it is one of the more challenging maps and I think you got a pretty good time also (for a beginner :P).
What was your strategy?
Like you, on the first attempt, I got wiped out by spores. But by then I've pretty much decided that my initial approach was not the best.
Second time round I didn't even attempt to build anything on the low-lying area. I built pretty much on that hill in the left bottom and bridged with two relays to the higher ground in the middle so that I could get a mortar firing into the pit. After that I subdued the emitter on the high spur and then jumped off towards the bottom (south)to connect up the final totem.
Fun map and probably as you say a worthy challenge.
Edit: Oh and BTW, I linked the date in your quoted post.
Edit 2: Revisited and got it under 10 minutes.

Here's another tough one. October 19, 3569 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=9&day=19&year1=3&year2=5&year3=6&year4=9).
Dutch Liberation Day (May 5, 1945 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=4&day=5&year1=1&year2=9&year3=4&year4=5)) turned out to be a lot easier than the real thing. ;)
The creeper also seemed nicer than the terrorists on September 11, 2001 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=8&day=11&year1=2&year2=0&year3=0&year4=1).
Edit: links added.
I added Dutch Liberation day as a "significant day" since I wasn't sure if that was the day the Dutch celebrate for their national holiday. Maybe old European countries don't have a collective memory that stretch back far enough to when they were actually formed (or it may predate the Gregorian calendar :P).
Thanks. :) We indeed don't celebrate the founding of the Netherlands, but Liberation Day is a national holiday for us.

I do not believe that historically these dates are correct. Especially the date for Christmas was chosen much later to coincide with a pagan holiday. You'd have to provide some proof before I can add these. Not a link to a Bible or Wikipedia.
Wolfram Alpha has the birth of Christ at 4 BCE and his death at approximately 30 CE.

So what that it isn't true, it's a tradition, the end of the world at 12/12/2012 is also a lie.
And according to the Roman-Catholic tradition and stated in The council of Nicaea Jezus was born 25 december of the year 1.
And about his dead: here (http://www.jcplooy.nl/jezus/docs/datering_kruisiging.html) is a link, but it's dutch so you might need to google translate it.

Well it's like this. We know the other dates in my list. The difference with Easter and Christmas is that while it happens on a specific time each year (Easter or the death of Christ being based on lunar cycles, or something), we don't know the exact year. To put it in a absurd context, that's like putting down April 12, 1970 as "Secretaries Day." While there is a secretaries day, the date we celebrate it on has nothing historically to do with an event. The part you mention about Roman-Catholic tradition is bogus. Not even the Catholic Church has the chutzpah to say Christ was born in year 0, nor the exact date of his death.
And quoting some random page off the Internet is not gonna cut it, it has to be authoritative (ever heard of that word?). Like who the heck is J. C. Plooy? What credentials does he have to be authoritative? If I google him, I can't even find one other reference to him. And I can read Dutch well enough not to have that page translated.
So, for instance, I read the *whole* page, which I doubt you did, because then you would have seen footnote 19 (http://www.jcplooy.nl/jezus/docs/datering_kruisiging.html#Noot%2019a), which reads:
QuoteAlle data op deze pagina zijn gegeven volgens de juliaanse kalender. Volgens de huidige (gregoriaanse) kalender zou de kruisiging van Jezus hebben plaatsgevonden op 1 april.
Roughly translated for our English friends, that means:
" All dates on this page are given in the Julian calendar. According to the current (Gregorian) calendar, the crucifixion of Christ would have taken place on April 1st."
So, no go unless you can give me a date that some noted historians or biblical scholars agree on.
Whoops, didn't saw that last part, and never knew the chronom maps were based on the Gregorian Calender, as that would mean 10 days should be left out. And you said Easter falls on a different day each year, that guy was talking about Pesach, which is unlike Easter on a set date.
But whatever it's just a game Karsten, what this guy said sounds reasonable, do you really think I'll search the whole internet just so I can have a date in this thread ;D

Well, I'm not the best person to ask, several here get better times than me. However for me the following things makes for a good time:-
- Careful consideration of placement of buildings.
- Careful management of energy and whether you go into a deficit. This includes using the new packet management mod to control what types of packets are dispatched from Odin City and whether you will allow a deficit to occur.
- Flying Odin City and/or a connecting unit into an advantageous position.
I'm in a rush now but if you ask in another thread, me and a few others might post a few YouTube walkthroughs of us getting good times on particular maps. Some of the really top players (
UpperK.. cough, coughl Fish... cough, cough...), OTOH, rather prefers to keep his magic sauce to himself.
Yep, it's all about careful planning:
- Pause the game immediately after starting a map
- Look where to place Odin City, often this is a location at the center of the 3 totems, close to 1-2 upgrade (when available) and where it's safe from the creeper for a while.
- Plan how to build your collectors. First pick up the upgrades and select -10% building costs and +10 energy as your first 2 (when obtained during early game).
- Before you engage the creeper (if necessary at all) first generate all the energy you'll need. After that build your weapons and start fighting.
- Don't charge the totems until you've connected to all of them (so disable the green packets at the start).
- Don't lay out your network completely, but keep the lay out in your head. Only add collectors when your energy levels allow for it. This way you build without a deficit, so the collectors you do build will be finished as soon as possible, so they start generating more energy right away.
- You can connect to the hardest totem by flying Odin City there instead of building a collector into the creeper. For this you have to make sure your network is connected without Odin City on the ground. To reach even further you can use a SAM or blaster in between Odin City and a collector. This is an advanced technique and is called bridging. Search the forums to read more about this.
These tips go for every map (including the custom maps)! Please note that only after playing a map you'll know exactly what you need (in terms of energy & weapons), so a second run will always be faster (minutes faster!).
I hope this helps. Only playing a lot will gain you all the experience you need to set the best times, so don't expect this within a week or so.
thank you guys very much. now if the four month old will let me off to find more cool maps

I have to wonder, why is that there?
Probably due to an accidental copy/paste of a button from a website.
July 6th, 1809 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=6&day=6&year1=1&year2=8&year3=0&year4=9) is a fun one =].
I've got another "Fool's Mate"
November 28, 1995
fools mate: november 12, 2010
I think we should add the hardest map to date from this (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=4497.0) topic, the
hardest one to me right now seems to be this one: July 31st 2134
When we find an unbeatable map we can post it instead of this one! :P
Here is a picture of it:

I'd just take the high ground in the mid of the map and build up some power and a mortar, and just keep building up power.

Have you tried landing OC there? ;)
That is the right strategy - but the way one has to do it is (so far as I know) unique.

I wrote that only by looking at the thumbnail, and thats the strategy that I came up with, didn't know it was impossible.
And when my first strategy fails, I come up with a new one on the spot. :D
Another fool's mate map is November 24, 2010.
About 20-30% are fools mates and I wouldn't call them 'Great Chronom maps'.
Today's map was an enjoyable one for me. I liked it beause the emitters are located at the bottom right corner and the terrain is a lot like a volcanoe. No spores.
December 27, 2010.
then maybe i'll try it... not a huge fan of chronom, but i do play the good ones here and there...
Just founded an intersting map, with very few upland... like little islands
Not very hard but unusual.
July 17, 6409 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=6&day=17&year1=6&year2=4&year3=0&year4=9)
"Island maps" are regularly interspersed with the ordinary maps. I think every 1 in 28 or something like that.
In the same way, just a little bit harder because there is less high terrain, you need more relays to jump and there are spore attacks :
November 24, 5606 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=10&day=24&year1=5&year2=6&year3=0&year4=6)
Hey Grauniad,
Didn't notice there was so many island maps ... I "browsed" several chronom maps, and did not see so many island maps. Maybe the chance was not with me ;)
Start at your map, move forward or backward 28 maps and you will find the next, and the next... :)
Another very fast map : October 10, 14 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=9&day=10&year1=0&year2=0&year3=1&year4=4)
1 min 43 sec to beat (easy !)
January 1st 2000 is a easy fools mate.
it also has a bit of the Y2K bug ;)
Found a fool's mate at April 29, 6899 (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/viewscores.php?missionGroup=chronom&month=3&day=29&year1=6&year2=8&year3=9&year4=9).
