This produces unnecessary jitter when file editors create backup files. I think the mission editor should only compile the files listed in the interface, or maybe only files with a .prpl extension.
This seems to be intended functionality. CW3 would try to compile extensionless files, as well as badly placed custom images, and so forth.
I could probably filter for only .prpl files....
