Title: [Obsolete] Competition Information + How to Submit a Map
Post by: Ninja on November 17, 2017, 04:08:52 PM
Information on current competitions

Including:

General information
Currently in progress, we have a score competition on maps in Particle Fleet, Creeper World 3, and Creeper World 2. All maps last a week, and two will be in progress for each game at the same time, bringing the number of maps in play at once to six. More on this will be discussed at the bottom of the post in the map schedule. If you wish to compare scores on other maps as well that is fine, however only officially chosen competition maps will have their leaderboards updated in the official thread and winners recorded in history.

The competition started on November 9th, 2017 as a semi-official "duel" of sorts between me and VirgilW on Alpha : Creeper in the Wind, in CW3, after I was trash talking V's skills. It spun off from there, and I was put in charge of organizing it on November 16th, 2017. As such, at the moment it isn't very well organized as I've only just started working on it.

IMPORTANT: How to submit scores
In order to get your scores included in the competition, you MUST put your group name as the following: specialevent If you don't know what the group name is, examples can be found in the spoiler.

You do not need to have the competitor role in the Discord in order to submit a score, however there are reasons (which will be discussed later) why you should do so.

How to officially join, and why you should
First thing, how to join is very simple. Post a score on one of the current competition maps, then tag a moderator (preferably the event mod, me, if I'm online) in the Discord chat to get the competitor role. After that, you've officially joined.

You may wonder, though, why should you? After all, your scores will still be up there with other people even if you don't officially join. There's really one big reason to officially join; you'll be notified of developments in the competition, and will also have the ability to give feedback. Additionally, while everyone can submit a map, I give much more weight to submissions by competitors since I know that they'll be playing them. Winners will also be tagged in the Discord for the more efficient reception of bragging rights, but I can't do that effectively if you haven't joined officially.

How to submit a map
Play a map (following the regulations laid out below, per game) and submit your score. You may set your score to the group "specialevent" if you wish, but that isn't required simply to submit a map. Then, make a post on the appropriate suggestion thread in this board, which will be changed out weekly. You may suggest a map for as many weeks as you'd like until it is either accepted or I inform you that there is no chance of your map being used.

Particle Fleet maps should be completed using the official fleet only, as the official fleet is what will be used for the leaderboard. Any PRPL used should be fully explained in the submission itself, and must not change the core gameplay. (things like PAC in CW3)

Creeper World 3 maps should not have any CRPL that changes the core gameplay (PAC, for example) and any CRPL used must be fully explained in the submission.

Creeper World 2 maps have no special requirements at this time.

All maps should take no more than 25 minutes to complete. This is not an absolute rule, but shorter maps will be heavily favored over maps that take longer than this time. I will also use my own personal judgment based on my knowledge of the abilities of the person submitting the map (e.g., speed-runners may need to complete a map in no more than 15 minutes, while turtlers may have maps accepted at up to 35 minutes [just examples, not set]).

Map schedule
Maps will be changed out every Sunday at approximately 2 PM CST. After 1 PM CST, submitted scores might not be counted, depending on whether or not I've gotten to that map yet to determine the winners.

Please post any additional questions below and they will be responded to and the answers may be integrated into this post.

Thank you, and good luck!

Are you going to keep a tally of points from week to week? Or is every week everyone starting fresh?

How do you decide the winner? Is it based per map, or for all maps total? (A grand winner per se)

(You can remove this post once you update everything)

EDIT: Also, for the CODE maps in CW2, you should add the size and complexity ;)

Nothing, it's just special. I'll probably throw in special maps like those every so often, they just aren't going to be regular.

Winner will be per map at the beginning, and if I figure out a good way to do it I might do a grand winner. Each week will start fresh, though I do intend to keep a permanent record of who wins each map each week.
