Tricks for Tormented Space

Seriously... How do the experts pull off a good start on an extremely hard map? In Jupnale I can quickly get a mortar running, but I'm bound to get flooded without overbuilding.
Considering how many turns my life has taken (good and bad), I'm still fairly neutral to it all. I take the hits, I don't react overly.

well energy efficiency is key, and remember the CN's can land in creeper and survive a while, sometimes this can be a game winning tactic.
but i don't remember that one in particular, so i'll have to go find it if you want some specifics.
where is that map? roughly?
