About half way through I realized that I should have used different tactics/construction, but was having too much fun to quit.

The key is to dig to the top as fast as possible. ;) (That and balancing building reactors vs ore rigs and makers.)

Kind of funny - though personally when making maps with makers as the only (damaging) weapon I would recommend making the map a lot smaller with weaker emitter intensities - towards the end of the map I was spending almost 300 ore per second, and it was getting very laggy.

As far as beating the map quickly goes, it's not really much different from most maps - mass energy as quickly as you can, and then never ever stop spending your energy (with the exception of the last ~7 seconds of the map).
