Game 4 has been a real beast… a noble and worthy opponent. It has resisted yielding up its secrets at every turn. Some might have turned away and cowered in fear and regret. But, I survived the Creeper wars. My scars are my shield to pain.
I’ve written more mechanics simulation and discarded than I care to admit over the last few months. Looking for that blended recipe of strategy, tactics, economics, physics, emergence, simplicity…. it’s a beautiful Siren’s song.
Anyway, a new video has been long overdue…

Hi When the game will appear ? And i have a question i love CW but idk why we need to buy keys for CW3 -_- i wish i could have CW3 and now CW4 to play them love this game 😀
Think of it as the way we enable the games developer to remain in business writing games. 🙂
In order, then:
1. When it appears, of course. 🙂
Honestly, it’s too early in the game’s development to even guess at a release date. As Virgil says, it’s early alpha. So, patience is a virtue here.
2. Why do you need to buy keys? To paraphrase a good response I’ve seen to questions of this sort: Games can be free when food and gas are free.
Virgil works on game development as his full time occupation. Professional game development tools, like Unity licenses, are not free, and are actually rather expensive. Then there’s the other costs that have to be met: rent/taxes, food, gas, utility bills, maintenance on any vehicles he may have, and so on. Since Virgil relies on sales of his games to cover those costs, they can’t just be given away. Not if he wants to keep working on games full time, anyway.
And last I checked, Creeper World 3 only costs $15 US. That’s pretty cheap as far as games go, and you’ll get a lot of mileage out of it. So go buy it, support the developer, and enjoy many, many hours of gameplay against a relentless fluid enemy. 🙂
3. This game isn’t Creeper World 4. It’s something new and exciting! 🙂
Ty 😀
I know but is hard to say to your mother ” i want money for a game ” my mum is anty gaming so nah but maybe at my birthday 😀
Are you going to add the drag-build feature like you did for CW3? The one where you can build many of the same structure. It’ll be useful for buildings like the phalanx.
Adding a range bubble when a ship/attacking unit is selected, would also be nice.
Pointing out the obvious now:
I assume you will fail the mission when your corporate HQ gets destroyed.
I noticed that the “bog” area tend to favor lower level terrain, before going to higher terrain. Exactly like the creeper.
I like the way-point system you added.
I’d have my corporate HQ ship right there in the thick of it shooting at particles.
PS Thanks for posting about it on your FB page, else I wouldn’t have known about this 😛
Looking great so far.
I need a pre-purchase button.
A few thoughts:
The bog system seems awesome. Your games are basically what I go to for incredibly creative gameplay concepts. But the thing is… it almost seems too much like the Creeper. To the point that I wonder why it just isn’t. I don’t know what the plan is or how it’ll be used at higher levels, but… come on man, I want to kill the Creeper.
I’m wondering what the point is of the elevation in the terrain. It doesn’t seem to do *that* much; at least not here.
Also, if I’m looking at this correctly, the bog that you create seems to spread in an expanding circle, but it doesn’t seem to wrap around where the terrain ends. If you look at the middle island around 5 minutes in, you’ll see what I mean.
This looks great overall. Adding land based aspects seems like a great addition to the game. I can’t wait for you to invent more and for it to be awesome and everything.
Another thought: While watching the Phalanxes attack the land around 13:53, I realized that attacking the land and attacking the particles would probably have the exact same net benefit. Because for each hypothetical “bog unit” that one shot takes out would just be equivalent to taking out one particle, in the case that one particle creates one “bog unit”. I’m hoping there’s something like the Mortars/Launchers planned so there’s benefits and drawbacks to attacking bog or particles in different ways.
One last thing: I noticed the upgrade system for the energy circle things has been removed. The one where there where slots around it and you could chose range or power or weapons and such. I really liked that. Sad to see it go. Do:
Hahaha… @7:20-ish. The ecological disaster commentary made my day.
Any chance there will be primary succession in the new game? 🙂
Awesome. Will the final game be anything like this?
Are you planning on keeping the bog system?
Will you bring this to Windows 10 universal?
Can I alpha test? Normal games are waaaaaaaaaaaay too stable.
XD I love your normal games are waaaaaay too stable comment. It just made my night.
Also, on the alpha testing thing, I would like to know if you’re going to have any Alpha/Beta testers, Virgil.
You making any plans on porting the game to Xbox1/PS4? im curious as a game bundle on the consoles would be interesting to see and to be able to play it at its full potential
It’s full potential is DEFINITELY on PC. I cannot imagine trying to control the series on with control sticks and such.
Command and Conquer worked well with the controller setup
even back in the PS1 era it ran really well on the console
I remember playing C&C1 and RA1 on PS1… with the PlayStation mouse
wait there was a playstation mouse? oh well it was still easy for me to get used to the controler. i have played C&C Red Alert 3 on the PS3 and I was doing extremly well. (hate the last mission. time based stuff is annoying)
Virgil.
You. Are. AWESOME.
oh yah!!!!!whats it going to be called?cw4 tip of the tiger?cw4 balls in justus? cw4 the end in form?
(p.s. the cw4 tip of the tiger is a horrible name)
This isn’t Creeper World four.
This could be named Ethereal Wars.
Maybe it’s just me, but… I feel this game doesn’t have too much replay-ability… I think it’s a neat game and will enjoy it when I buy it but I just feel like this one will get old quicker… Obviously more is going to be added into the game which will likely change my mind, but right now this is where I unfortunately stand :/
looks amazing.
I have a few questions though, will there be a pre-purchase option and will we be able to buy this with the other 3 games
Wow Virgil… This is looking GOOD.
Kindly tell me where you live so I can SHOWER YOU WITH MONEY. 😀
when does it come out
and whats it called
Will it be on steam though? If so, can there be a pre-purchase. (My brain hurts how much I want this game). Even if we don’t get anything right away, the idea that we can have the game as soon as it is available is enough to keep me happy.
Yeah, I definitely plan to have the game available on steam. It should launch with achievements and all of that good stuff. As for early access…. maybe. I’ll have to judge the landscape and how it looks before going that route.
My tendency is to make a quality game at initial release (whether early access or not). In the past I have always released the game and then continued to work on it for several months adding things. So that definitely fits the early access model on steam… I think. But either way when the game is solid I’ll release it and then add more good stuff in after release.
Hey,
I’m a huuuuuge fan of all 3 creeper world games. This new game is giving me something to look out for and i’m checking everyday for a new video of the gameplay. From what i’ve seen already the game keeps getting better. I love the new concept and it is already well thought-out.
Probably little chance but still: If you need someone (extra) to test out the game (alpha and/or beta) and to give objective feedback on both extra concepts and gameplay, I’m certainly in for it 😀 I’m a student that’s going into programming next year (engineering, not game development) but i’m still interested in doing game development as a side project. Although I won’t (yet) be of help codewise, getting extra feedback might help you make the game better.
Keep in mind that i’m definitely not asking for a free version, I’m more than willing to pre-order if it is available to support you guys.
Thanks for considering,
a huge fan from Belgium
Good luck friend. i track back on CW3 and he said he has all the tested he needed. but i dont have high hopes for my PC and this game. CW3 goes through alot of slow down when i play it on this computer.
So, I’ve been watching the video through a few times and I’m wondering about a few things. Firstly, there seems to be no indicator of unit range (at least that I saw and understood as such). The units evidently have a max range but I can’t quite seem to work out how far it is. Secondly, with the introduction of land-based units (And with the idea of land based enemies), do you have plans for bog spawners (for the enemy). If so, what about missions with only land based units or only space/air-based units. Finally, although you have named the units imaginatively their purpose is a bit unclear to me. Is the only difference between them the arsenal they have available? The level seems to limit you to a set number of ships in the beginning and whatever you can collect so is it an attempt to make some units more “valuable” than others. Or is it to play to the units strength? I noticed that missiles can’t damage bog so a wolf would be useless in an island assault but at the same time, the wolf would be great at protecting an area such as chokepoints. Anyway, just some observations mixed with questions.
Oh, and seeing as there is a limited number of remnant available in the mission, will there be different arrays of upgrades available for each mission. (Or more upgrades available per mission completed through the storyline.) And, will there be a level editor?
Ok, I’m finished now 😛

Something I hope to see from this game that we didn’t see in Creeper world is more of a “Combat” system, so to speak. What I’m meaning is that in Creeper World, each level could be categorized in to three parts: Land grab, Defend until a balance is found, and then Offense. What I’d like to see in this game if at all possible would be some sort of “Fight” system, wherein the enemy wouldn’t be consistently doing the same thing (I.E. emitting at a constant rate). While I don’t mind there being a cleanup phase towards the end once the enemy has been wittled down to the very last few strongholds, I want the game to feel a bit more like an actual battle rather than the “Defend then Attack” system Creeper World has.
Just bought CW3 during the Steam sale and I’m pretty addicted to the game, so looking forward to this!
Hi, i need to have moooooooorrree information. More videos, more information about releaseTimeLine and so on. Please Please Please 😉
We need nothing!! You’ve been doing a great job with the spoiled/unspoiled ratio (you can tell by the fan’s rabid cries for more spoilers, hah!) 🙂
I’ll be gladly buying this game once its available, and have no wish to rush the game along at all.. Great things take time, which is something the insider-access the internet provides leads to us forgetting about.. Imagine development on Final Fantasy 7, or Might and Magic, or Diablo 1, if they’d been developed under daily demands from the public (which /matters/, since a lot of people base their opinion of a dev on how well they communicate with the community.. Problem is, when they’re chatting they’re not developing amazing content :>
Develop! Take your time! And in the end, once we get our hands on the game, we’ll all /lose/ our time 😀
Will the Game come with a CRPL like modding ability? It seems there is a ton of stuff one could do with bog/mire if given the right tools, like infected energy zones or increased particle production when the land is mired for the enemy.
Yep, it’s called PRPL (Particle Reverse Polish Language) and is basically CRPL with commands that make sense for this game.
