No messing around…. First thing, go here and vote the game 5 stars:
CW3:A at Kongregate
Awesome…. and as always thanks for your support. So what did you just vote for? It’s 12 new prequel missions in the CW3 engine all ready to run in your browser!
Why? Believe it or not, but there are still some gamers that have not yet played any CW game (queue sad music and pictures of gamers playing their 14th fremium farming game). CW3:A is their beacon. Something that will catch the eye of some wandering in the dark. And if they happen to like the game and then buy the awesome full version from KnuckleCracker, Steam, or any other store… then that’s pretty sweet too.
Besides, many of you first saw Creeper World 1 way back years ago as a flash only game. That was when you first joined the Creeper Nation. So at the very least it is fun to give back into this same community of gamers years later. One of the advantages of a Unity title is web publishing, so everything converges to make this possible.
Yay CW3 flash!
Requires Unity plugin(only available for Windows and Mac)… gnah!
In time (like probably next year), Unity will support export to webgl and asm.js. So hope springs eternal… In the mean time, the web game is of course a spin-off of the desktop game (which was written in Unity for superior performance and graphics capabilities compared to flash).
also available on linux (Ubuntu) with Pipelight…. I have tried, and it works… nearly fine… just 1 bug at the end of missions, you need to reload page

Yep. I saw CW1 as a flash only game when I first saw it on onemorelevel.
Voted 5 star.
I, too, learned about CW as a flash game, originally I thought it was ONLY a flash game, many years later when I encountered the flash game for CW2 I realised it was not only a flash game and have since then been a member of the creeper nation.
Just want you to know, the link on the main menu of the game seems to open the link in the same frame as the game… Meaning it’s stuck in the Kongregate game window.
This is a problem with Unity and kongregate…. it’s really irritating. There is no way to open a target browser in a new frame with Unity, and Kongregate isn’t providing any fancy javascript calls to work around this. So, I’ve updated the page to be a crude solution. Not perfect, but at least better. Take a look now…
And as a member of the multi-monitor master race, I can’t have videos in glorious 1080p with the game on the old, kinda crappy, 1280×1024 monitor since fullscreen uses Windows’ primary monitor, not the monitor the browser window is in. Kind of annoying, but oh well. It’s better than Flash! 😉
Are we going to see any CRPL scripts from this? I’m quite fond of the conveyor belts and the Creeper magnet/repulsor. I found the credits a bit disappointing in this version too. 😛
Hello. Your Creeper World games are wonderful.
I didn’t know that CW3 was developed in Unity. I also use Unity and would love to hear how you used Unity to develop CW3. Did you use C# or UnityScript? Did you start from the beginning or port your ActionScript code? Did you use and Assets from the Asset Store? How long did it take to get up to speed in Unity and then make CW3.
In short….do you keep a detailed devlog?
Regards,
Dan
Lets see…
C#, started from scratch (but with a head full of knowledge from CW1 and CW2), used a few assets from the asset store (but didn’t really need to), and took about 3 months to get up to speed and become productive in Unity.
The only log I keep that’s public is on this blog. If you go way back a couple of years you will see the early progress of CW3 and how it has changed over time.
“Flash Only Gamers”
Darn straight! I must have been committed to only flash games until I saw one of the first CW game’s spin-offs (Simulator). After I found out it was part of a greater whole (CW the actual game), I made sure to get the games in the series when I got the chance. Regardless of all of life’s priorities, I had to become part of the community here (This is what started my online social interactions in the first place) as this is a great series that is part of the major Video Game System of bigger companies that make big games.
What can I say Virgil. THIS GAME ROCKS MY SOCKS. Another Masterpiece of a game. Perfect blend of easy and hard. I still don’t understand the last map though…ITS TOO EASY. The creeper flows too slow or something. I missed the terraforming through about all of them and then NO BERTHAs…Really? I get to play with 2 Berthas, only 2 :'(.
Great missions. I like the changes where notifications show up on the left side of screen – will they be imported in an update to the full game?
I really enjoy this game 🙂
However, I suspect that people are cheating. The top score on mission 11 is 32 seconds, by the user “cheat”. I don’t know how you would identify cheaters though.
One thing I noticed with this is that I haven’t beaten level 8 yet… But I’ve already beaten 11 and 12 (interesting concept on 10 and 12). I think this is due to a bug where when you start up the game, all the levels are availible, but after selecting one and leaving it, everything’s back to normal. Otherwise, good game. I’ll rate it 5 later.
One thing I have to admit: until I played this game on Kongregate, I never thought of all but 2 of the CW3 soundtrack songs as “premium content”. (Only the first and last songs are available)
BTW, the X hotkey doesn’t work on it. (Then again, I haven’t checked the hotkeys menu on the game yet)
Overall, a great flash intro to CW3.
Shift-X is the key to destroy units by default.
One reason the music is limited in the flash game is because size is limited. Adding all of the music in would make the download go from 12M to much larger.
I saw a comment on Kongregate that mentioned an idea I think sounds pretty cool… I already +1’d it, but thought I would post it here to help it gain notice because I like the idea so much.
Posted by kome360: “So, will there eventually be a versus mode where the goal is to use your color-coded creeper to take control of your enemies’ energy network and take down their creeper emitters?”
It isn’t a bad idea, but I don’t know how well it could be implemented. The Creeper doesn’t really do anything; it just spreads. That would be boring.
However, putting two players on opposite ends of a map, giving them access to a Forge, Bombers, and Sprayers plus copious amounts of ore could work. Perhaps leave Cannons available to fend off the enemy’s Creeper, and Beams to shoot down the Bombers. Combine that with a new tab that lets the player build Emitters, Air Exclusion Towers, and Spore Towers that run off the network’s energy, and you would have a pretty hectic multiplayer game. The only issue there would be fog of war; you could see everything the opponent is doing. Perhaps that’s good, perhaps not.
It’s far too late in CW3’s life to implement this, and Virgil should be working on 4 (or something new). Plus, we don’t know if he has any skills in networking at all! 😉
Dam i thought of this 2 u know at least someone agrees with me to have 2 players fighting to take over creeper nodes.
You have a freaking fullscreen button in a flash game (cries tears of joy)
You truly are a gamer god virgilw 🙂
Wow! A fullscreen button in a regular flash game, nice!
You truly are a gamer god 🙂
Whoops thought 1st comment didn’t go through, sorry.
Will these levels be available in Steam version? It’s pitty when the paid version does not have the content that available for free somewhere.
virgil will u make more online CW3 mission or is that it if not maybe u could make 1 which lets u build berthas and bigger island to take over i love creeper world in all i cant pay for it though but i hope i will get it for my birthday because i think its an awesome game ive been playing since CW1 i love ur games.
Hi there,
great Game 🙂 Will be there a Version for all the Tower Defense Sites out there or only Steam and Kongregate?
Regards
Marc
I’d love to put the game at any major portal that accepts Unity content. So if you know of other game portals that take Unity games… just let me know and I’ll upload CW3:A there.
