What better way to start a new year than opening an entire sector of space for colonization! By now you have no doubt already tackled all of the Story Missions, collected all Articles of Odin from the Prospector Zone, experienced 100 nightmares from Tormented Space, and laughed and cried through the Alpha Sector.
Now, Colonial Space is open for business! Make maps and upload them, or check daily for new maps that others have created. It is all built into the game so no fiddling about with files is required. All you need to do is download the latest public beta build, install, and experience the wonders and horrors that the Creeper Nation creates. Follow the link below to get the latest beta build. Read over the whole forum post for info on what has changed.
Currently there are 60+ maps in the system. How? Some were done by beta testers and some were done by astute followers of the forums who have noticed the public beta builds already. In any case, there are some sweet maps in the collection and there will be thousands more to follow.
As for when this will become a release and not beta… that should happen in the coming few days/week. I’m just adding in some final alterations and features, then I’ll update the released build. But I wanted to start the year out right and give the Creeper Nation a chance to play with Colonial Space early…
Lastly, tell your friends, enemies, co-workers, teachers, parents, children, spouse(s), siblings, favorite game reviewers, and total strangers in the mall about CW3. We are getting close to the top 100 on Steam Greenlight, so every notch of exposure matters. Here’s that Steam Greenlight link in case you have been holding out and not voted yet:

Still have the most fun playing CW1, though I’ve bought all 3. Ever think of adding an update to your best game?
He just did 😉
This update is the perfect birthday present!!
One thing though…. After downloading maps it seems they are still just in the mix of things. Without favorite’ing each map I download is there a way to filter out downloaded maps??
The general idea is that downloading a map doesn’t really mean much, since you may download a map and never want to play it again. Favoriting (click the little checkbox) on a map and you can always easily return to it by filtering on favorites.
Is there some other use case you are looking for?
Normally I only want to play a map once (unless I explicitly add it to the favorites).
Downloading a map thefore does mean something really important – I’ve played it already and so probably don’t want to play it again, therefore there should be an option to filter them out. The inverse is also useful, only show downloaded maps to you can find again that one that you did enjoy the other day,
In those cases the “In Progress” and “Completed” checkboxes are probably what you want to use. They are “or’d” together so you can check them at the same time. When you do you will see any map that you have played or are playing.
I think I was just so used the way it was handled previously.
My mind is still used to… “This is where I’ve downloaded maps” and “This is where I will go to download maps” that I instinctively expected that same-type system to be in place.
No big deal. Will just have to remember to favorite them to get that same separation.
I see what you did there… ‘notch’. xD
Fantastic. Two thoughts that I liked from CW2 – filtering by author and by avg time (or median time might be better) I used the text search but, for instance, author ‘J’ is hard to find. Thanks! These games are brilliant. Seriously.
Actually, J uses the tag #Jmaps to identify his maps, which makes them much more searchable.
