First things first… I’m sure folks want to know what the status is and what I have been working on for the last few weeks. The good news is that I am working on the final stages of the final mission as I type this (well before and after I type this). CW3’s story missions turned out to be far wilder than I ever imagined when I started this project over a year and half ago. At their heart is core CW game play, but I have added in a large amount of variability across the missions. This variability reaches an apex in the final story mission. I can’t wait to show it to you…
This is all fitting, because I wanted compelling missions to serve as the foundation to tell the story on. I could have had a good game and a bad story, or a good story and a bad game… but I have not rested till I have both in a place I can be proud of. This has meant I have made decisions that added months to the game implementation time… but so be it.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I don’t make these games for the fans… I make them for me. Don’t get me wrong, I love and appreciate the literally hundreds of thousands of fans. But at the end of the day, I have a story to tell, and a game to make… and when I figuratively put brush to canvas it’s an act of self expression.
Yes, I know this means I have crossed over from being an engineer to an ‘artist’… whatever that means. What it does mean for the fans is that they have to put up with waiting for me to find a happy place with my creation… and that’s the bad part. The good part, I hope, is that when the game is released you’ll see it not as some formula engineered game to generate maximum revenue with minimal effort… but simply as one man’s passion.
As for that waiting part, I appreciate everyone’s patience. It means a lot to know that fans and supporters of the games hang in there for the long haul.
Anyway, what’s a blog post without a picture? Check this out… This ‘camouflage’ world is the remains of a civilization that took a different approach to evading the Creeper. Perhaps, they thought, if they limited their technology the Creeper would pass them over. Worth a shot, I suppose. Unfortunately for the inhabitants, it didn’t work. But, I wonder what might lie within those pyramids?
