Got another video by Lich98, this time it’s a bridge assault on a hefty pile of the blue stuff. It’s fun to watch, so sit back and enjoy!
I often (like multiple times daily) get asked for a status update on the game release. Everyone knows I don’t give release dates since that is just asking for trouble. A one man band motivated by game quality and exact release dates… those are just incompatible with each other. But I can say that I’m headed towards a release and the game status is now officially ‘beta‘.
This means the game is almost feature complete and that I’m working on things like polish, story, tutorials, etc. There are a few things to close out feature wise, but nothing that doesn’t already have a plan behind it. The story missions in game 3 are more involved than either of the first two games, so they take some time to tweak and get right. But I’m making good progress so far and I like what I see. I have so many tools from the terrain options to CRPL at my disposal when making maps that one of the challenges is just deciding the reveal order and keeping the total number of story missions down to a manageable number.
So that’s the status…
P.S. Expect the blog posts to increase in frequency for the next few weeks as I have a healthy collection of beta videos ready to show.
P.S. P.S. Lich98 was good enough to make up a play list of all videos for CW3. You can find it HERE.
Well played. Good to know that we get more videos. How many surprises can we expect?
Incomplete list:
Singularity Weapon from the forge
Artifacts of Odin, Mass and Conversion (Not that Conversion is unknown, but we haven’t seen it)
Expect a healthy load of surprised that arn’t allowed to make it into beta videos!
Absolutely!
Indeed. Longer story would be great thing.
A theory on what mass does: It drops mass (IE terrain) where you target it, instantly creating a small hill and destroying everything there.
Is it possible to ‘extend land’ by teraforming ’empty space’?
No, you can’t terraform void into workable terrain
Yes.
um… where are you getting the answers for this?
Nicely done! Looking better and better. Can’t wait. Looking forward to the increased videos/updates. Keep up the good work! Until next time.
Woohoo! Keep ’em comin’!
Canons, Mortars, Strafers, Shields, Sprayers and Beams (in just this video)! The tools of war against the creeper certainly have expanded!
Um… where have you been through all of CW3’s development?
I don’t mind if there are a lot of story missions! I wouldn’t even mind if there was more than one story. I’m so excited!
Same here. I would love an extended story campaign.
Ditto.
Agreed. The stories in the last to games were over to quickly. a longer story, or more than one, would be nice.
Very nice! So what does putting a strafer (or other aircraft unit) on a power zone do? Increased ammo? Better damage?
Strafers get a 3 shot in front of them. Bombers get to drop 3 bombs at once, Guppies can carry more and travel a lot faster
Actually I think Strafers only shoot 2 shots at a time, not 3. Bombers get extra ammunition.
I say 3 and that I know for a fact
They got nerfed down to 2 at some point, I think. but if they got un-nerfed back to three, well…*shrugs*
Confirmed 2.
Ya, i hadn’t changed that fact from the earlier builds, changed in my mind. I don’t see too much of a difference.
V, I myself am a one-man programmer right now.
I know how you feel. If I set a release date for myself, I know it won’t be enough time to get everything right and be satisfied with it.
Code on, Virgil!
Looks good and I can’t wait for the release!
Keep up the good work!
Lich98, thank-you for this video. You may not say, but there was a titan out that was colored differently than the Bertha, I could not catch when you built it, or what it was. I don’t even think you used it. Would you tell what it is?
Might you have seen me build the Forge? Its the temple looking building with a red top. You can access that tower by pressing the “Forge” button on the command bar which is why it might appear as if I never used it.
I did see you build the Forge.. But on a second, third and forth watching of the video I finally found out what it was, it was a group of Berthas that had just fired, they were red like turrets get when done firing. Thank you though.
Remember how the Blaster’s core in CW2 changed color depending on target priority? Drones first is white, Creeper first is blue, etc.? Virgil showed off the Berthas last fall. You can set the target yourself OR you can let it auto-target the deepest stuff on the map, which turns the white parts maroon.
WRONG i looked hard he didn’t build a forge there wan’t really a point there was no Aether Totums to help him get Aether into the forge so what u mostlikely saw was a birtha set to AUTO mode which means u dont have to keep track of where it shoots it will pick the dencest creep and blow it up and it doesn’t call a target till its ready to fire so u can have like 2000 birthas going at once and they will work together to clear up the creep
Well, you can easily have 20 of them. 2000 would be a little hard to power up.
Hey Lich.
Just like the last one, nice vid. Always wonderful to see some game footage.
You generally do better tactically than Virgil does in his videos, but I still see you leaving towers unattended, and if you had built more collectors and reactors prior to your big deficit, which you had plenty of energy to do, things would have been a bit smoother.
Just curious;
Do you watch your own videos to see if you could have done better?
If you had to play the map again, would you have used the same method for advancement?
I either add commentary after the video or don’t commentate at all to be able to focu 100% at the game when I am playing. I do however watch the videos 3-4 time afterwards. If i were to play this map again I would have built a bigger nest of energy supply with reactors to take care of the energy problems and pay more attention to my front lines and keep them moved up.
Can we get a Real-time(or sped up if you must) post commentary next time? I find videos more interesting when someone is talking than when they play music.
We have a string of videos ready for realse I think however the next one does have commentary.
Would you be so kind as to enable mobile viewing on your future videos? This one does not have that enabled and it’s a bit of a pain. Hopefully I’m not asking too much with this.
Thanks in advance!
Never mind, didn’t read far enough down to see this was already asked.
I am not controlling this accually the music I have used is for some reason not letting it play on mobile divices which is frustrating. I might make a copy that has no music and label it “Mobile Version”
Whoa! 23 videos already?! Time really does fly like an arrow.
Oh, and a couple og questions:
1. Any estimate of how many story missions we are going to get? CW3 has more content than the two previous games, so it makes sense that it also haves a longer story, right?
2. I noticed that one of the spore towers was a little more “whiter” than the rest of them, is this a sign of increased power or something else? Or do we just have to see that for ourselves when the game comes out?
And again, thank you for the time and dedication you put into the series, I look forward to the release 🙂
“2. I noticed that one of the spore towers was a little more “whiter” than the rest of them, is this a sign of increased power or something else? Or do we just have to see that for ourselves when the game comes out?”
They seems to spawn anti-creeper i you watch closely
Yes they do spawn anti-creeper
Yeah, after rewatching I noticed that they do create AC spores. They still seems to target player structures like normal spores though.
It could’ve been a CRPL tower set to be both spore tower and emitter.
No, DMD Maps do not have CRPL in them
Stop trying to come up with solutions when you aren’t on the beta team. We will have answers
Where did that come from?
First off, I admit, I misunderstood the question, but why should I not speculate on what is perceived?
But consider this, if I hadn’t have commented, I would’ve been left misunderstanding.
Your first response gave me information that I was also lacking, that CRPL towers aren’t in DMD maps, and for that, I’m grateful.
I think it’s the combinations of all the different comments that directly contradict what Lich98 has said, or state facts that are false.
There’s a lot of it in this blog post. It’s hard to separate fact from fiction :O
Stuff has changed over main blog post, my information is currently up to date as I am on the beta team.
1. If you follow the blog, Creeper World 3 was said to most likely have 20 story missions. However, based on todays observations, us creeple can infer there will be more. Most likely 25-40. But that is not for me to decide, it is up to virgilw 🙂
It might be slightly longer than 20 but don’t expect to much because you can find 10,000,000,000’s of maps outside of the story even before starting Custom Maps
I do follow the blog. But only 20 story missions to show of that much content? That seems a bit short to me. Maybe 25 or 30 story missions might be preferable? But yeah, like you said, that’s up to Virgil to decide.
Are we at 23 videos already? *Checks hard drive* Oh no! I’ve only downloaded 22! Either you’re wrong, you’re including the 2001 parody, I’ve missed one, or some combination of the three, and not necessarily in that order.
I would advise double checking your stash against mine, i might have done one double or something
I got the number from the playlist Virgil mentioned.
After checking it again I noticed that the Chimera video is included twice 😛
I will have to fix that. Thanks!
Looking forward to the release. Do love the quality of your games 🙂
so it looks like there’s a move command that lets you spread your units out in a line across the terrain when you move them, i really like this addition :). my only question is: how intelligently does it place the units? do they go where they are needed (i.e. check the creeper and send a dynamic amount of units to every position) or do they just spread out in a formation similar to what they were in before advancing(or running)?
loven it Virgil 🙂
I think I saw two or three different formation algorithms at work. One of them tries to keep the selected units in their existing formation, the other bunches them up together, and I’m not sure about the existence of the third.
Looks like the command is more like “keep formation”.
Yes, it has been around since a patch in CW2.
just say 2020 to everyone asking for a release date 😛
O.o sorry for posting that as an answer here, i meant it to be a new comment i dont know why this got up here.
Neat! I notice that lines connecting relays don’t change color when your network is energy-starved, so if you’re looking at a portion of your network that uses just relays, you don’t get a visual indicator of energy starvation. Of course, it’s no biggie since you’ve also got the per-CN energy meters, but since you went to the effort of making collector-connecting lines change color, it seems like you do want that visual indicator. How about making relay-connecting lines turn blue+red = purple or something?
Good point,
Maybe Virgil already implemented that if one line type change colour then the other one also should do it. However I propose for the lines to fade instead of changing colours.
Eh, that’s a bit less obvious. I think changing color works well, provided 8% of males have an alternative color scheme. Maybe they go from white to black? I dunno.
The relays DO need to shade. What if your going with a strategy of relays and reactors instead of collectors? What if the map does not allow collectors, or the player has to pick them as as a schematic/tech?
the moment they fades you could have problem seeing the links between them. and that would be useless, you have to act quickly and you need to gather instantly all the informations you can from the screen
I had not thought about that, pushing this idea to topics in the beta area.
Thanks!
If some Spore Towers can shoot AC spores, then PB’s ought to be unable to target them like te CW2 coils hit AC phantoms.
I disagree. The Beams shoot down Spores. That’s it. It’s up to the map-maker to leave a message or the clumsy player to find out. Alternatively, let us see what the Spore Towers launch, i.e. the Creeper density (remember, negative values are AC).
I would be surprised to find density displayed cinsidering it was not for CW2 phantoms and afiliation was unidentifiable until landing.
You can always disable the beams. But will the same anti air concept be accepted with shields? What if shields are the only anti air unit the player has? I would not wish to disable it for even a second!
Thanks for the addition of “Formation move” on CW2.. it’s a great feature !
1)isn’t the ability to recall in orbit the cn a bit overpowered? you can teleport them on the map in a few seconds! (or do they have a cooldown time?)
2) will the berthas be able to automatically aim to the deepest creeper pool on the map?
2), yes, Virgil showed that a few videos back.
1: Without going back to check with the game atm I believe they have a 30 second cool down time.
2: Yes they do
Is there music with this video too? Us GEMA afflicted users can’t watch the video 🙁
Does anyone read comments? Last video there was a post with a way around it. Go check there because I’ve reposted that almost 3 times.
Yes there is cool inspiring music to rally Liches towers to shoot faster.
He used music again….. the Germans are going to be angry.
Lich98, is there a reason you are restricting access to these videos via smartphone? Can’t watch them on youtube 🙁
No there isn’t I don’t know why the video won’t play on smart phones ill have to look into that more
Lich has been EXTREMELY nice this week and last. I don’t think he would restrict the video’s without a reason. Besides, if I remember correctly, videos start off restricted by smart phones, and the up loader has to go back and allow the video to be watched by your device.
And for some reason I can’t check or change that option. I have no idea why, might be the license used on the publishing thing, but I can’t figure it out.
I noticed in this video that the disconnected cannons keep turning and “firing” at the closest creeper when they are out of ammo. I don’t remember them doing that in CW or CW2.
Why not sell it while its in beta as early access.
he says no beta access and no demos till its ready
It will be well worth, well worth the wait.
I think you can ask Virgil to give you beta acces to the game as a beta tester (Now it’s BETA closed)
