Hey there,

i want to ask if it is possible to add a "Cheat Option" to the Crepper World Menu.

For those who think "cheating" sucks, well, its okay. But there are Players that have fun by Cheating, or are at least, not good enough to clear the Campaign.

For me, i like the Story, and i really want to know hoe Creeper World 2 Ends. But after trying the last missions again and again with no sucess, its very
frustraiting. I watched the Walkthroughs on youtube, but it dont helps.

But this doenst Matter, cause with an free chooseable Cheat Options, ist would be easy to help those, that aint good enough to solve the Game, without
makeing anything "unfair" for those who dont need Cheats. As long as the Cheat Options only work for the Campaign, and maybe for self maded Maps in the Editor too,
if the Author of the Map, acitvates them (like the other Technique Stuff, just select a "Cheats enabeld" box, or dont."

Plz Developers think about this, cause at least, i have paid for this Game, so a little bit help would be nice.

There havent been many Cheats, just a few like "Infinite Energy/Ore" and maybe "Infinite Tech Points" and "Invincibility for all structures".
But i think, one Cheat, the first one, will be enough to help Player finish the Campaign.

And as i said: There are some Player having fun with cheating. So this would maybe a reason too, to add a free chooseable Cheat Option at the Menu.

Thank you.

Greetings

Why don't you rather post in the Gameplay section for either CW1 or CW2 asking for help with a particular map? You'll get a lot more satisfaction for your money by actually beating the maps and getting the skill required to beat more of the custom and bonus maps.

If you enjoy the feeling of power that comes with cheating, there's a simple solution. push the creeper back to an emitter or two, then build up 60+ energy, and use a huge stockpile of weapons to  obliterate everything. (try this with level 9... much fun. :D)
When the going gets tough, the tough get going. The smart left a long time ago.

I know that, and thats great, with the Help of the Community i have beaten the lvl "Horror".

But like Ebon heart said, sometimes its cool to feel the Power of Cheating. And of course, Maps that were finished with Cheats, should not appear on the Scoreboard.

so everything would be fine. Would it be much work to code some Cheats?

Well, if you just wanted to toy around on a map you can save, then load the saved game in the editor (the editor can open saved games) and edit it however you want, but it won't allow you to unlock the later missions.

As for having difficulty with beating levels, one very useful thing to note is that you can press 'p' to pause the game and still issue commands - that makes it much much easier to manage some levels. It would also help to know which level you're having trouble on since there's a fairly easy solution to every level if you know what you're doing (most of the walkthroughs on youtube are not actually great strategies - they still have lots of room for improvement).

Probably, yes. And  development work on CW2 has essentially stopped.

Note that building in a cheat system takes a fair amount of design and effort. In many of the more complex games, the cheat level has to be built in to allow developers to easily progress - that is not so much necessary in CW2. (although in the early phases of testing we did have an "instant win" key - when it was discovered, all scores dropped to 0 seconds. :)

What? Really? Why? :(

Because being a one-man show, when work on CW3 commence, that time has to come from some other activity. :)

My problem with a cheat option is it would be very tempting. Even if i fail a map once instead of redoing and improving my strategy ill be tempted to press the cheat button. As you say it allows you to uncover the story /plot if need be, this once again is a problem since after you cheat you uncover the plot which basicly ends the replayability for me, if you allready know the plot there is little motivation to complete the level.

You know the simplest thing to do would be to use Cheat Engine with one of the scripts for CW 2 on the Cheat Engine Website.

Bongo

I have a HUGE list of improvements for CW2 but I'm not gonna wast my time unless someone says that development has started again or CW4 will be like CW2, like how CW3 is like CW1 (I hated CW1 and didn't buy CW3).

My suggestions are divided into two categories: Suggestions that can be added to CW2 without breaking the existing maps and suggestions that require a modified engine and would not be backward compatible (for CW4 or whatever).

For CW2, I thought a cheat mode would be good too. Not all players are serious, highly intelligent, experienced with strategy games, or even adults. A cheat mode would help all these less than 'uber' players have FUN. In the EXISTING game it could easily be added, but using cheat mode would prevent a player from recording (or submitting) his scores or times. Simple.

BTW, When smart people make things for the general public that ONLY other smart people can use it's called 'Nerditus'. It's a pervasive problem with technology companies that sell consumer products. The digiteratti tend to SEVERELY underestimate how stupid the AVERAGE person on earth really is.

For CW4, cheat mode could be added as a feature. There could be two scoreboards for every (custom) map: one for regular play, and one for cheat mode play. If there are crystals or techs there could four scoreboards: best score normal, best time normal, best score cheat, best time cheat. This would also make spotting 'real' cheaters easier. If the 'normal' scores are all clustered around 10 minutes and the 'cheat' scores are all clustered around 3 minutes, then having one guy on the 'normal' board with a time of 3 minutes would be a dead giveaway he's using some outside cheat (like a memory editor, or a hex editor on saved games).

---

Anyway if you guys decide to 'touch up' CW2 before working on CW4 make an announcement and I'll actually take a couple of hours to post all my ideas for both.

That's a wise thing, since neither of the things you envisage above are likely to happen. :)
