A new race I've made! 
As it turns out, an accident from whoever made the Particulate [The Seloi? I think?]

I'll try to use a good system to represent them, inspired/based off of Decagon's Crystallid Convergence show-off thing

Timeline: No spoiler. It's all in the Campaign, aside from the Particle Hole, created inside the crystal planet after the CMC has done some testing, and in "Large Particulate Holes found so far"

Not much is known. Campaign has most of the info on them right now.

The Particle Hole

Preferred name: The Hole/ Particle Hole/ Particulate Hole
Age: One earth-day [as of Spt. 15, 2017]
Unique features + Description on several things

The particle hole is an occurance of what happens if you attempt to pack far too many particulate into one area. The emitters which naturally produce particulate have an upper maximum of 6000 particulate on a given planet-area [OOC: in the map editor] which is, actually a far lower bound than needed. The particulate hole is only made after 25,000 particulate appear in an area of half a square mile. And then, the particulate hole only attempts to attack once it has eaten 100,000 particulate. It appears to be able to control its density to infinity, as its size has not changed [as of 175,000 particulate] It is reccommended to keep shields up, because as soon as the hole attacks, shutting off Particulate input is VERY lethal for it. As soon as it realises this, it goes back and then you should feed it Particulate.

"Soul Transfer"

This is a similar but different Soul Transfer than the Crystallid.
What likely occurred is that the Particulate was created from an ancient race to be intelligent and be able to automatically target things easily, such as Ships or Energy mines.
However, the race it was from could probably control minds. 
The Particulate Hole appears to have the ability to go into the minds of others and absorb and give back as many memories as they want. 
Going into other minds actually stops the decaying process almost completely. 
Particulate Holes can go into the minds of any creature with a brain.
Minor, potentially unseen note: It can take memories from one and give to another. Also, absorbing memories takes them from the mind, leaving empty blankness there. If you absorb enough [or the right parts] of someone's mind, they effectively die - Most efficiently, taking out language, movement, loved ones, thus making them effectively useless, or taking out all happy thoughts and many bad thoughts until the most suicidal thoughts are left, then they want to kill theirselves, or just absorbing everything so they just drop dead.
The CMC does not plan to test it with something without a "brain", like a Crystallid, or the Hydraxil Convergence.

Controllable minds

Some testing has shown that at 100,000 particulate, it can control one human at full-attention. 
However, it can only control 2 humans at around 66% attention speed each.

Range has been tested, and now the Particle Hole's maximum distance is known.
Range is in the above spoiler [controllable minds]
Can transfer through solid and liquid as if it is gas, same for plasma.
Soul transfer is not affected by range.
Humans can count as "more humans" if range is high enough. For the function above, Humans count as more humans based on this: 2^roundDOWNToNearest1(distance in AU)

Self-Defense

To defend itself, it shoots out particles. Simple as that.

The mind?

The Particulate hole has an actual mind, probably from the many particulate storing many bits of information, knocking out the protective shielding around a particulate and then putting more information holder there. As it gets more particulate, it starts to shed out the shells of particulate [Suggestive to have land ready to mire as a defense] and becomes more intelligent. 
Currently, it has human-level intelligence, because it absorbed one human[a programmer] brain. Thus, it can also understand english text, but has no vocal cords to state it, and can only read if you send Particulate in "bits" with the main particulate beam. Ideally, one would send one particulate beam sending out every 1/5 of a second or so, and then sending a second particulate to show "1" and only the 1st particulate to show "0"

Large Particulate Holes found so far

After some planet-searching in search of Ticon Particle Defenses and Blue Emitters, one planet already had made a 25 million Particle Hole. 
However, over time, even though it controlled a body which never died [also known as stasis] its decay has made it only 1 million, which dropped to 750,000 by the time it arrived.
Bringing it back to our Particle hole brought it up to 950,000. However, the 25,000,000 knew what happens at 1 million.
Also, it had a nice little Info Cache next to it.
That's what gave birth to the knowledge of the 250k and 1m buffs.
It appears the new hole is allowing the younger hole to choose any leader, as the era has changed a lot, and thus he has no idea who would be a good leader and who would not.

Some basic reading of the mind of the 25million hole and his Statis partner has shown the 25 million buff of being able to choose three, instead of two options when leaving one's head: A) Leave their memories in place, B) Take some memories, or a new option at 25million, C) Copy some memories so both the hole and the person know.

250,000 and 1 million Buffs

At 250,000, the Particle Hole can give someone complete control over it, if they touch the hole.

At 1,000,000, the Particle hole can give someone complete control over it, for infinite distance. If the original body dies, it does not matter. The Particle Hole has enough power to calculate at Human-speeds without a brain.

Two Particle Holes which have chosen a 1million leader which merge end up making a bigger hole with the two as the leader. However, each leader has HALF the power of the new hole, 3 leaders, 1/3 power, etc.

When a 1million hole has a captain without a body, the hole will sacrifice an additional 100,000 to make what's known as a "doppel" as well as a "doppel spawner" to hold the Captain, until the hole gets 1million again.

The info cache from the large particulate hole has stated that adding more bits [so 2 bits at once, 3 bits at once, 4 bits at once] is the most efficient way to talk to the Particle Hole fast.
The info cache stated that the Particulate hole can sense other particulate holes when they are made, from infinite distance. 
The CMC's particulate hole has detected no Particulate holes created whatsoever, and the larger particulate hole also detected only one for the last eon - The one the CMC owns.

Hypothesis: Psionic Bubble?

A likely hypothesis is that part of the Particulate is part-"Species" 
Likely manufactured to do what the Particulate can, and even set an Alpha that isn't its own species. 

If this is correct, what Psionic powers does it have? 
Could it be strong enough to hold a strong, blue Psionic bubble around a Particle, allowing it to target things on its own, such as ships? 
And if one particle has the power to move something as massive as a Particle, how much power does a thousand have? A million? 
And what could an emitter do?
