There is a (deliberate) element of luck to this.

For that reason i've upgraded it from a medium to hard and issue this warning: highly frustrating.

Since all of the acid rain attacks come from the left I

put the one SAM on the left side, about 2/3rd of the way up.  Then I also put blasters in random spots in the farm rows, as they can take care of spores too (just only activate them if needed).  With my time only one spore dropped into the farm network, and that was just as the totems were finishing.  If you are constantly trying to rebuild the farm.
