To get started, build 4 Collectors and then 6 SAMs (3 above the city and 3 below).  That should enable you to survive the first wave of Spores, and then you're all set.

Don't build any SAMs to start.  Build 6 well-spaced blasters instead.  They kill spores just as effectively and use a LOT less energy to do it.
