Title: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Mare on June 16, 2011, 05:25:10 pm
Any code map that you find to be impossible to complete or even start out, please post their name in Blue and the size/complexity that it is impossible to complete in Red.
Please also post at least one reason why the map can't be beaten.

Ex: Boo, Large/High There is an emitter on the surface that has an extremely high emitting rate along with a gateway that spams drones at you. The example brought to you by Warutel (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=7226.msg45737#msg45737).

This is to help those who have just found these maps and are attempting to try it without knowing they are not possible to complete. Basically, to save them from wasting their time.

Also, if you can disprove a map is impossible and can complete it, you may want to post it here so that other people may know.

Edit: Before declaring a map to be impossible, please check on the forum's search bar if that map had already been posted.

This is the list of the current impossible maps we have found on the thread. (Courtesy of Lord_Farin.) The ones crossed out are the ones that have been proven beatable. I will try to update this on a daily basis.

Also include the size of the map, as they can change a great deal between small/medium/large.

The surface emitter is too strong and the gateway keeps spamming drones.
It might be possible on a lower difficulty.

I bet that a good portion of these maps are beatable. This will be a fun thread... :)

Well I'm not very good but you need to on boo (large/high) Have two blasters built in the first 25 seconds or the drones will kill you. One will keep you alive for 40 seconds  til the phantoms. Plus the Creeper is almost impossible to advance on... I don't see how it is beatable  :P

Us in Beta Made Sure the difficulty was hard enough that there were impossible maps. Though, I can bet my left shoe that most maps here will be experimental maps. :( They are easiest impossible maps to find. Still, you should be surprised what maps are beatable...

This is to help those who have just found these maps and are attempting to try it without knowing they are not possible to complete. Basically, to save them from wasting their time.

I hope you understand that there are more than 4000000000 maps. The chances of someone else happenning to land on the same maps as you completely by themselves is rather... miniscule.... :)

Beatable. I do not have time to get farther right now (I wil finish later today). but I am already established here, so I can safely guess this map is beatable enough.

Its a trap Large/high

0g map with a heavy emitter and gateway surface... tried a few times and failed each. Anyone able to get this?

theres a cave here Large/high

another 0g. Phantoms are destroyable, but after 6 plays and moving to the left, it seems impossible to keep the surface emitter in check. (requires more then 3 blasters to even hold a line)

Beam me up scotty! Large/High

Surface emitter is too much, same as last map.

this is easy Large/High

Yet again, another 0g surface emitter of destruction

All of these are possible:

The first two are pretty straight forward since there are lots of gems readily available: dig the LS in and use repulsors to hold it off, using shields to stall as necessary. Once you get the repulsors up, you'll have plenty of energy extra to build up reactors before the creeper density would become too much for them. The first one I set blasters to drone only - but it isn't truly necessary as I have more than enough energy to support them firing constantly, but it's still better to use drones only when repulsors are good enough to hold the creeper back.

Its a trap:
(click to show/hide)

theres a cave here:
(click to show/hide)
There may have been more efficient ways to go about this, but truthfully I don't play the experimental maps very much - I prefer the normal maps a lot more.

The third one was a bit trickier since there wasnt as much energy available at the beginning, but with careful timing on shield replacements and turning repulsors on at the last second, this is what I came up with:

(click to show/hide)

I didn't play through the maps after this, typically once you get a wall of repulsors up you'll have plenty of time to mass reactors and build up before it becomes threatening on these maps.

EDIT: Didn't notice the 4th map at the time: I massed several layers of shields around it, they finish in time before the creeper spills out, took the gems on the left side then moved over to the right side. It's probably possible to do this one without digging in, but I didn't feel like going through it at the time - I don't think I needed to build the layer of shields over my LS either.

(click to show/hide)

In hindsight I realize that I could have gotten an easy nullify on the surface emitter after taking some gems by digging under it, shield + nullifier (the terrain directly right of it is decaying, if you built a shield below that square before it decayed through you can nullify it safely)

This map is indeed not impossible, as Fisherck said. I just beat it. With thanks to fisherck, I couldn't do it without his screenshot. I would never have figured out myself to rush to the green gem in the middle, but it turns out to exactly give the energy you need. Nice hard map! :-)

Impossible. I think not. :) It is a little easier than you think, because there are no surface drones and plenty of crystal energy. Still a tough map though.

And the negetive emitter strength is I believe just an error. I am sure that emitter still has plenty of bite. ;)

EDIT: And here is another pic to prove it is beatable. I wonder who will win...

Haha! I may try tommorow, I found the way of burying the LS underground myself also :)
But I just wanted to post it because of the negative emitter strength mostly.

EDIT: Just won the beginning myself! :D

That one is definitely not impossible, you probably are given enough time to set up a dark beam with enough energy production before the creeper breaks through  that you wouldn't even need to dig the LS in.

I overkill things a lot, I just overkill them very quickly. Overbuilding isn't really a big issue compared to CW1 because in CW1 the gameplay was dominated by the time it takes to build up and the weapons would clear out huge amounts of creeper in seconds provided they had the energy to do so, while in CW2 actually killing the creeper takes a lot longer so building more weapons than is truly required will not ruin your time whatsoever. It's just about doing it quickly.

either use print screen, and paste the picture into paint, then save it, or just press backspace in the game and locate the folder "cw2_screens" (should be under my documents) then when making a post, click "+Additional Options..." and browse for an attachment. Few gems on surface, a 73M titan on an open crater, zero gravity and a drone portal right ahead. May not be at all impossible, but is hard.

Rho Rho Upsilon Large/Hard

Few gems on surface, a 73M titan on an open crater, zero gravity and a drone portal right ahead. May not be at all impossible, but is hard.
This one is definitely possible. The hard part is not the beginning, but when the drones get out.

even less gems on surface, an 83M titan on surface but no drone portal (yay)
the start is very easy for this one becuase you can bottle up the emitter with shields. You have a couple minutes before you need to down under. You even have enough time to establish two bases...

Oh, and I do not know what you were talking about with the lack of gems. There were plenty in both maps... :)

AWW SCREW THIS!! I just beat that map fair and square, unfortunately I can't upload the pics because I don't know how to use the image feature of posting....

But I assure you, just look at the scores table for that map, I beat it!!

The beginning is hard, but I just used Fisherck's "Dig in" Technique and from there, it was just a matter of building up my energy and tech. I recommend you use launchers to thin out the creeper otherwise the blasters won't be able to hold it back. Don't forget to grab the crystals!!!

either use print screen, and paste the picture into paint, then save it, or just press backspace in the game and locate the folder "cw2_screens" (should be under my documents) then when making a post, click "+Additional Options..." and browse for an attachment. Also, if you upload it to imageshack or something, you can use {img}link{/img} and replace the {} with []

Thanks man, I just remembered that there was an additional option tab thanks to you.

Thank you :-) I must say it certainly was not easy. Here's are two screenshots at 2:54 and 4:00. I'm afraid I have overwritten al my other savefiles :-)
As you can see, I used walls to block of the creeper and blasters to destroy the drones. In the beginning above the surface (on the red cross in my screenshot), later I fall back to the place where I was at 2:54. I even built 2 conversion bombs before I built my dark beam. One very early, I let it explode on the right of the map, immediately after those blocks decayed over there. I am building the second one in the screenshot of 2:54. Especially the first one gave me some extra time.
The second screenshot is at 4:00. I then built the dark beam, but was rushing to get 12 energy income before I turned it on.

'8727' on large/high might be impossible, I'm not entirely sure because I did get close at one point by rushing the left emitter with a conversion bomb - but I couldn't quite get it nullified (and even if I had I'm not sure I could've dealt with the creeper leftover). 1 surface emitter, another beneath 1 block of decaying terrain, nowhere to dig the LS in with 12 phantoms every 40 seconds.

209 small mid or high

Interesting map, but it's entirely possible - I chose large/high as it seemed to be the hardest of them (small/high does have a surface gateway, but the number of drones on both gateways caps out at such a small number, the first gateway can easily be distracted by the LS indefinitely, and the second gateway isn't very threatening)

I picked up the 2 gems on the left first of course, and then I built a repulsor and 4 blasters to quickly nullify the emitter (started building the nullifier as soon as the field turned down):

(click to show/hide)

From there I picked up the red gem under the emitter and built *lots* of shields - if you're fast you can do this before the drones are able to break out, I filled up almost the entire chamber the first emitter was in with shields and kept my blasters behind a few rows of them, and put my repulsor in position. After the first wave of drones is gone the 4 blasters will be able to hold off the rest easily enough, and you can build up reactors and play fairly normally from there.

rain here jump L/H

Another experimentals 0g map, this one has a 11,7M surface emitter, and a hideously thin layer of terrain with a chamber and another 11,8M below.

It would take a ninja LS to be able to dig underneath this one. Any hints on beating it?

Screenshot has the creeper bubble status after 11s of gameplay. Did not move LS or take any actions.

qwertyuiopasdfghjkl;'zxcvbnm,.  large/high

I'm almost certain this one is impossible - you can't pick up any gems fast enough to wall up the middle, and there's nowhere to build up enough reactors to really get anywhere - you might be able to set up a wall of repulsors in time, but I can't see how you could advance afterwards so it wouldn't really matter. Experimental map with a 303M (!) intensity surface emitter, and drones, and even more drones + phantoms past decaying terrain just for the fun of it. Probably impossible on small and medium size too.

Beaten like a drum.  ;D

The start is a mite tricky to get dug in and a shell over you but the surface emitter is pretty weak and you have experimentals to take care of the tougher creeper.

(It felt weird chasing the last creeper into the sky with the LS and a fleet of blasters/launchers.)

This map includes a surface emitter, experimentals, and phantoms. There are very few surface crystals and nowhere to dig in and after forty seconds a 60M titan emitter breaks free from the chamber below. On medium complexity this might be possible; I was able to hold off the creeper for a few minutes before being overwhelmed.

Experimentals Map. Two surface-connected emitters, one on left (15M, 5th row of earth), one on right (16M, 6th row of earth), a drone portal that spawns 4 health drones from second zero, decayable terrain around the pits and a ROCK in the middle of what would be your diggin pit.

HOW in earth did you put the shield next to the emitter? Tried every single way (not literally) and could not do it.

Also, the pathing for the packets move them always horizontally before vertically, and in this map it shows. a packet's path is decided when he leaves LS, and it does not choose the shortest path that is also furtherst from the creeper, just the shortest.

Edit: I Got to nullify the emitter, using a repulsor beneath it. But then i got trapped between a throng of drones and a creeper waterfall without energy.

The fields at the beginning give enough space to build the shield if you build it quickly. If you don't have the shield built by the time the fields turn once though then you won't be able to.

EDIT: Also be sure not to get a deficit - if you start building the nullifier too early then it will mess up your energy, ideally you should get down to 0 (well, technically you should have a deficit of exactly 1) when you take the red crystal. Also be sure to move your LS as close as possible to minimize packet distance.

Vulcan large/high. 15.9m emitter open to surface, stream of drones from start, 12 phantoms, no gravity. The screenshot is my best holding action at 39 seconds. (got 2 crystals, built blasters and managed to hold creeper and drones off until power ran out.)

Actually I can't get a start on medium or high complexity ANY size on this one. Low is possible - has gravity and no drones.

I gotta agree with you, this map made me very sad very quickly when the drones broke my shields :'( :'( :'(

Definitely impossible.

definitely not impossible =)

Difficulty?

it was rly hard i needed a lot of restarts and save every ~30sek

Hello everyone!

Any advice on today's map ("July 5, 2011")? On medium or large size / high complexity (medium seems harder because of surface gateway which is missing on large size). 1 surface emitter of some solid power, 1 more to join it soon + drones from the very start if on medium size. 2 gems seem to close to emitter so I can't figure how to grab these and can't really build up fast enough without gems even on droneless version...

think medim is still impossible but Large/high can be possible because u can get a white gem :) i will test it

Hey all, I'm back from CW1!

I found a rather 'interesting' code map . . .

I have yet to beat it but I think I'm getting close, its a little weird because gravity is UP instead of DOWN. I'm wondering if its even possible . . .

The code map is An Interesting View and I'm playing it on Large/High

I don't really see why this should be difficult - you can pretty much completely ignore the surface emitter for an extremely long amount of time and just let it puddle on the top doing nothing (you should have enough time to completely build up everywhere available before needing to fight anything other than phantoms), and you have more than enough space for reactors to deal with the emitter (you know the build directions are reversed and you have to build reactors upside down right?).

Two Things:

1. You must have not read the forum rules. Basically it states not to use any bad words (Swearing, cussing, or sexual/racial slurs), because, believe it or not, there are children who play this game so its inappropriate for them. Also, some people just don't want to hear it, period. Please refrain from Cussing. You are new to the forums, so they may tolerate it this once.

2. I dub this map impossible in the name of the moon's biggest ocean, Oceanus Procellarum. (The Ocean of storms)

Too many drones, combined with 2 Surface emitters, each with about half a titan emitter's strength.
And like you said, there is a hell of hyper drones in the middle of the map with titans guarding them.

I got Mare from this:

http://www.etsu.edu/physics/etsuobs/starprty/21200mwc/moonmap.jpg

Edit: Temporarily placed the map name back in a spoiler tag until we decide what is appropriate here. -G.

0g, All directions and experimentals (but you will not live long enough to use any).
1 surface connected emitter, 1 that is under 1 layer of decay terran. More to join soon as most caves soon get connected into one. Real problem starts when deep down ground is decayed to gateway with fast drones, and if you manage to survive that seconds later gateway with slow but very durable drones gets open to finish you off...

There are some crystals to start, but I still was not able to survive the drones after dozen tries.

You definitely can last long enough to build an experimental. :) You just have to grab some crystals then dig in on the right side (I did not ever need repulsers). I then built reactors until I had enough energy to run the dark beam (12 energy). Then, I was unstoppable...

Just a quick note about colorful language in posts and for code map names.  In general I prefer for them to not be posted on these forums even in spoilers.  Many kids frequent these forums as guests and I'd prefer to keep this tiny corner of the Internet as clean as possible.

No big deal at the present, just wanted to mention it.  Now back to the games!

Excellent job, thank you! I now see where I had failed, I had not figured I can actually can take that white gem in the middle before moving to dig into right corner. Otherwise I was doing pretty much the same approach. Got to try it again now, I think extra energy from that gem can be exactly what I was missing :)

EDIT: Tried it with white gem and it was not that hard indeed. Gem makes all the difference it seems.

Not a god at all, but map is beatable, though tricky.

Have to quickly lock the emitter with 3 shields at start and keep building more shields as these decay. If allowed to erupt into open it would be unstopable considering how little space you have. After putting 3 shields I moved LS left to collect gems and tech boost (used for +10% reactor efficiency). Then pumped reactors till energy output reached reach level needed to feed dark beam, after that it was routine from there on. See screenshot for position right before dark beam gets online for me:

Thanks for an interesting map, took me a good set of tries :)

Heaven  large/high  9.4m surface emitter, zero G, and nowhere to dig in due to creeper pools just below surface on both sides. And -if you survive that long - phantoms and a 56.7m emitter below one layer of decaying ground.

screenshot is my best try - got one crystal which allowed me to get shields up, but I couldn't dig to the other crystals before they failed.

Doubt these are possible, emitters are to strong and to close to surface so can't run and dig and can't block them with shields...

Yavin 4  large/high Gravity right, build left, room for only 5 reactors, surface emitter and continuous stream of drones. I can manage a stalemate until the sky fills up after something over 10 minutes but can't build up enough firepower to get anywhere with an offensive.

Possible - the key to this one is to pick up both technytes quickly and get 2x reactor efficiency upgrades, and energy storage with whatever is left. After that move over to the left, build shields to stop drones until you have 4 reactors built, then a blaster, then a launcher - once the launcher has been firing for a bit you'll be able to build a 5th reactor. From there you want to build up a few weapons ahead of time, and let your energy storage max out before going on the offensive:

(click to show/hide)

I didn't play it out after this, after that emitter is nullified there won't be anything remotely threatening.

When dealing with surface gateways, shields are very good. Every shield will be able to kill 4 drones (4 HP) as long as no creeper etc. interferes, which gives you time to build up since shields only cost 5 energy. In the worst cases you might need to fly the LS around to distract the early drones - the LS moves just as fast as normal drones so it can potentially do this indefinitely, but it gets quite tedious.

I just beat theres a cave here Large/High, which was reported beatable earlier on.
A simple dig-in sufficed. The most worth mentioning, and what I didn't notice earlier, is that the LS is actually capable of moving through dark beams... Strange to me, but it came in handy to deal with the creeper at the top of the map (as it was 0G).

At least, one more 'impossible map' can be stricken from the list  :)

Not nearly as bad as it first looks - you have to remember that when the gravity is up, that also gives you a huge amount of time where you can pretty much completely ignore the creeper.

My start:
(click to show/hide)

I was tempted to pick up the red and blue gems - but that would mean the creeper would become threatening a lot earlier. If they were on the other side of the map (ie. the side that didn't have the titan) I would've gone for it, but I decided against it because of the titan. I intentionally let 4 drones crash into the LS since there wasn't really anything to lose from it - I could've easily afforded to build more shields if I had needed to.

The creeper only got threatening about 4 minutes in, by then I have more than enough energy production to start building more weapons and such. Pretty straightforward fighting through to the titan from here.

Definitely possible, I simply massed shields and reactors and went straight to a dark beam - I had a conversion bomb ready in case I needed more time to build reactors (set off the conversion bombs and rebuild shields), but it turns out I didn't even need it.

Oh, and I know my reactor placement is very sloppy, but I knew  I would have more than enough space anyway so I didn't really care.

raindrop large/high I had managed to dig in and was slowly building reactors (was going to be marginal on powering a dark beam but I think I could have managed) when the second big batch of drones broke out...

Surface emitter and gateway, zero g, experimentals, and phantoms.

I was gonna say... with that setup, you can survive indefinitely. It's just that expanding much more would be a pain... But then again, you can always bounce that beam around using mirrors.

One of the few experimental maps I actually found fun (until I got a dark beam up of course - I stopped playing at that point)

I started out like this:
(click to show/hide)

After that, I built a conversion bomb (and a bunch of reactors of course), and then conversion bomb rushed the emitter to the right of me:
(click to show/hide)

Once my shields broke, the anti-creeper from the conversion bomb pushed up and I could rebuild shields on 2 layers. I built a 2nd conversion bomb, and then conversion bomb nullified the emitter to the left of me also (mostly for the extra anti-creeper, that chamber had very dense creeper so the anti-creeper would buy me a lot of extra time). From there I just rebuilt shields whenever they broke since the anti-creeper would flood out, and then just built up reactors and a dark beam. I probably should have been more meticulous and actually dug for reactors more space efficiently, but I had enough energy to support the dark beam regardless.

I'm quite sure that this one is impossible. No gems to feed on make the two surface emitters (and the third emitter behind one block) almost surely impossible as there is nowhere to dig in either. The middle emitter can be boxed in temporarily by shields but that's about where my skills end for this one.

844 Any Size/Medium or High

1 emitter and gateway open to the surface with 1 - 2 more emitters (including the titan on high) and another gateway with easy access to the surface. Limited (basically no) build space and cannot dig in.
On Large/Medium it is definitely possible, see screenshot. I haven't tried the others yet, but I'm quite sure that Medium/Medium is also possible. The high complexity maps will be definitely harder, but I'm not yet convinced that they are all impossible.

I can't get that far (pic attached). I can't build the line of three vertical barriers. The bottom two get destroyed before they are built. Also, judging by the pattern of creeper for the left and right holes, it looks like you have managed to block off the left hole for longer. In your pics, the left creeper is lower than the right creeper. In mine it is the other way around. Can you describe how you did the beginning bit of the map?

Code Level:
the end Large/High

The average strenght of emmiters is 60.2 millions and Maximum is 100 millions, Gravity is 0 and the closest emmiter is at 11 million strenght, which have an exit straight to the Liberation ship. The second closest is at strenght 55 millions, but is blocked by weak-to-creeper walls, which will not stay for to long.
You will not even be fast enough to destroy such amounts, and the creeper will just float in all directions...
The only positive side is that, there are no any phantoms.

Not impossible - This is how I started:

I started building a conversion bomb after a few layers of shields, then set it off and rebuilt the shields, then repeated it for the other 2 openings with 2 more conversion bombs:

After that I just built a dark beam and more reactors, surrounded all of my base with the dark beam and put it in position to kill off the drones as soon as they broke free also. I stopped playing at this point because experimental maps get boring once a dark beam is running.

Hit pause during the intro screen that way when the map opens it will be paused. Now set up all the stuff before hand including the movement of your ship and then unpause. You start earlier. Also as the ship gets closer to the destination the packets have less distance to travel thus faster.

There isn't much diggable terrain, there are high-intensity emitters at the start (slight delay with destructable terrain), 1-2 drone nests at start, phantoms, and to top it all off it's zero g.

Almost all the map is empty space. Even with full upgrades to beacon range, you cannot get a nullifier to take out the bottom left emitter due to not being able to get close enough since you cannot "see" that far into the map.

Play the map and you will see what I mean.

It was 2 actually, but conversion bombs can be very effective with dealing with the small chambers. Of course, when it's out in the open, dark beams are really the only way to go in those cases (effectively anyway). It can sometimes be worth it attacking a small chamber with a conversion bomb just to get a huge anti-creeper bubble to defend yourself with, or to get more space.

Edit: There is a possibility of beating this as it lets you go at least a couple of minutes before breaching the right chamber, probably enough time to pick up the white crystal and some other bonuses...

Regardless on either complexity medium or high or size medium or large all are possible with a maker I don't have time to get my screenshots up until after work as I'm walking out the door right now (well haha should be!) but they are possible a maker is super important because of the relative weakness of the surface emitters.

I went with a much more aggressive approach - in hindsight I shouldn't have attacked the chamber from the side I did instead of taking the obvious approach which would have made it a lot easier to defend my reactors, but it worked out anyway (I thought the fields would let me get an easy nullify on it with shields - but the field always rotated just a few seconds too early - I also thought I would be able to clear out the chamber before the terrain decayed through because of this, but it didn't quite work out as planned). I took a red and blue gem from the left side + the technytes before flying over to the right.

Beat you to it! (I think although you posted as I wrote this...)  :)
Try to nullify the emitter and the gateway early to make life easier. If you time it well, with shields and a nullify you can clear out the cave in the first few minutes. Go into it from the bottom though.

This is as far as I could get with "locked in":

Can't be sure it is impossible though...

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: florrat on August 05, 2011, 07:16:40 pm
locked in (EDIT: locked inside) is indeed insane. I think it's impossible, since you can hardly secure more than 3 energy/sec after the terrain is decayed (after a few minutes). And the drones are so insane, I think you can't destroy them with blasters. That means you need a dark beam in 4 minutes, with an energy income of 3 minutes. The best case I can image then is a infinite stalemate, where you switch your dark beam on just enough to destroy all the drones.

My most promising try is shown in the screenshot. I mimicked deathsandwich's approach. I managed to bring the health of the emitter back to 0.67. But even if you destroy that emitter, it won't make that much of a difference, since after 4-5 minutes, most creeper will come from the emitter(s) below.

EDIT:
@deathsandwich: I think the unit cost upgrade is better than the reactor efficiency upgrade on this map.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps

Are you sure the name is "locked in"? For me it's a completely different (and incredibly easy) map.

EDIT: Looked up in the thread, it's actually locked inside.

My start is extremely different - I'll have to see how I can go from here, the anti-creeper should buy me some time at least.

(click to show/hide)

EDIT AGAIN: I'm certain that method can work, but I went with a somewhat similar strategy just on the surface emitter. I didn't think conversion bombs would hit creeper dense enough to be able to hold it back well (as a very large portion of the creeper coming from that emitter spills out of the chamber), but by rushing 4 conversion bombs into it placed carefully it worked well. After taking out the close surface emitter it's pretty straightforward to just build up while the anti-creeper buys time (I was lazy at this point so my energy useage isn't so good, but I had plenty of room for error at that point) I stopped playing at this point as I have a dark beam built and all the dark mirrors in position to defend myself easily enough with more thann enough build space to work with. I'm fairly certain medium/high should be possible with a similar strategy adding in some blasters to defend - there are better gems available at the beginning so I think it can be afforded.

I managed to get at least a (temporary) stalemate, but there is no room to build reactors for a dark beam. I will have to look into it.

That map very heavily favours conversion bombs - I built dozens of conversion bombs and mass shields to get more room for the dark beam.I probably shouldn't have dug next to the surface emitter, I was hoping the conversion bombs hitting there would be more effective - though it might have helped more than I realized by making sure the density above me wasn't as much so I'm undecided on that.

I did it without using so many conversion bombs, which ended up costing me a lot of time. I was forced to build a dark beam too early because my repulsors were not holding up and I ended up stuck in a slow fight, zapping emitters every now and then.  :( I won, eventually...

Anyway, my point is that using loads of conversion bombs on that emitter probably does help a lot.

I haven't tried this map for very long but I think it is probably possible... There are loads of drones but you have some time to build up. Four blasters can just about hold them off, but I'm not sure if it is possible cap the creeper on the surface.

can this be done large/high

I used a very different solution to this one than most maps:

I built a dark beam right away (well, 14 seconds into the map), and then built up some reactors, and placed shields around the gap with the dark beam pointing in like in the picture. From here I can turn the dark beam on/off for short bursts to defend, and whenever the shields get low on health I can turn them on for longer bursts to replace them. This lets me defend indefinitely, so I build up some tech domes - after 3 reactor efficiency upgrades I have enough to get +12 energy by destroying all the tech domes and the 2 shields by the surface and replacing them with reactors (with better reactor layout this could probably be done with 2 upgrades, but I didn't feel like bothering).

With 2 surface drone gateways, and 2 surface emitters, and little space to dig in, I am almost certain that little how ask large/high is impossible.

Could you, in the interests of educating us all (me, specifically) take a full-motion (not accelerated) video of the first 60 seconds or so of this map? I'd love to see your strategy, since everything I tried fails in the first 20 seconds. I can't get enough shields up to get to the red gem (I've discounted going after the white or green, since that might take too much resources and create another weak point in my planned hideout).

The sucky part is that the medium is probably harder, since one has to contend with drones from the outset as well. And on easy it's barely worth bothering.

1500 meters 3:26 Large/High
This one is a good one. There is an extreme lack of space. And I was going to fix this with a nice conversion bomb in the chamber at the top right. But when I tried, the upper left chamber of drones got loose and completely decimated my defences. My only solution would be to use the conversion bomb to stop the first wave of drones. But besides that, I am not sure... :)

Oh, and be glad I did not use this one in the tournament I just posted. ;)

One I posted ages ago in this thread is possible - 8727 large/high

The phantoms are a huge drain on energy in this map with 12 of them spawning every 40 seconds - but it's still possible.

My videos at normal speed don't seem to work well, but I pretty much built 4 shields before anything else to buy time, then after picking up the red gem completely shielded myself in. In this picture I deactivated all the shields after the gem at 4/5 packets, and then activated them after getting -20% unit cost to save some energy (if you don't time everything meticulously the closest 1-2 shields might not be able to do this and you might have to build them before getting -20% unit cost)

I have a couple, someone try these ones out just to see if they really are impossible.

First we have shoe party after L/H Almost no room to dig, plus two surface emitters.

Secondly, there is: paper ask snow L/H Digging in is not the problem, it is the never ending stream of drones coming from the surface gateway. Even if you do have a foothold, have fun fighting a 113 mil emitter without any experimentals.

  ;D

Edit: Also try out 1890 L/H It only has one surface emitter but not a lot of space to hide. Even if you establish a base. You have 30 seconds before you are bombed with 12 phantoms. Have fun!  :D

I announce to be beating 1890 L/H as well.
It was considerably hard, I had to take over the top right chamber with a conv bomb (had to be done fast as digging LS in was impossible), and consequently build energy generation. I then could pulse a dark beam to protect myself, from there I am beating it now.

EDIT: Done. That was really tedious... Clocking in at over 50 minutes it is by far the longest CW2 map I have ever played.

door bread help is not too bad if you attack the second pool from the far left side. Use plenty of launchers to hold the creeper back, and blasters to take out the drones. Repulsors are extremely effective too, but most of the work can be done by gravity on this map. I tried, and could definitely take out both the left gateway and emitter in the second pool. I didn't finish it but I'm sure it is possible. Just lots of fire power needed.  ::)

rain here jump L/H

Another experimentals 0g map, this one has a 11,7M surface emitter, and a hideously thin layer of terrain with a chamber and another 11,8M below.

It would take a ninja LS to be able to dig underneath this one. Any hints on beating it?

Screenshot has the creeper bubble status after 11s of gameplay. Did not move LS or take any actions.

Also, I am very happy to announce that rain here jump L/H is actually possible!!!  :D It was so hard I am inclined to keep the exact solution to myself and see if someone else can do the map first. I'll tell you how if you really want to know... I posted a time if you don't believe me. Woo!  :D

Requires a bit of precise timing at the beginning (and flying LS back and forth through shields to keep sending packets), but after this point it should be pretty straightforward as you can just keep digging down and building more shields.

I'm not enitirely convinced you survived that.  ;) Could you show me what happened in the next couple of minutes? Was your shot just loaded ("incoming phantoms")? Your going to need at least 36 energy to dig down to another level and then 20 energy to defend your position, which I'm guessing your going to need to because the shield on the far right is going to go pretty soon after that. Then you will be struggling to dig much further, and it will take a while to reach the red crystal.

You might have survived, and sorry if I'm wrong. It is basically like that, but I am suspicious that right hand shield would cause you to fail, because my build didn't require it. Admittedly, I forgot to use the tech so there would be a little more flexibility than I realised, but not a lot!

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps

I just dug down, took the red gem, built up reactors and shields as necessary. I built 2 conversion bombs to send up and rebuild shields (only 1 of them was necessary however, I had lots of shields leftover when my dark beam was running) In the first screenshot I already had 100 crystals saved up, and an easy red gem I could pick up, so I wasn't really short on energy (and there are no phantoms at all in the map)

(click to show/hide)

EDIT: Something worth mentioning, is that  even if you plan on falling back, it can still easily be  worth building reactors even though they will be destroyed - with the -20% building cost, reactors take less than 30 seconds to pay for themselves, and even a single layer of shields will last about 40 seconds so if you have extra crystal energy leftover at any point, you almost certainly should be building reactors during that time, even if you plan on sacrificing them later on (the reason I have so much energy at  that point was that I had just picked up the green gem when I took the screenshot - I did start building reactors after that)

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Kithros on August 09, 2011, 12:38:33 pm
I played it a bit differently than you did I think - I actually shielded up in the chamber and managed to grab both the green and white gems there. I'm sure there are other apporaches that can also work, but I just went with what seemed like it would be the fastest. After that I just built up reactors, massed shields (and 1 blaster to kill the drones) and set up the dark beam.

(click to show/hide)

(click to show/hide)

I was worried for a little bit I might have to redo it and be more space efficient with my reactors, but they generated enough anyway.

I would never have thought the white gem was actually accessible. With it I can now also complete the map. Thanks for the idea, and congrats on the execution  :)
I guess I will have to learn to not rule out anything beforehand again.

EDIT: Having played through some experimentals maps the last few days, I notice how quickly they get repetitive and boring. Therefore, I propose to cross out any map for which there has been posted a screenshot featuring a DB with 12+ energy production. (This will probably mean most maps reported beatable can be crossed out fast(er) and ensures pleasant (i.e., non-tedious) gameplay)

First I obviously started digging to the red and blue gems -  ideally you should aim for having a deficit on collecting the blue gem during the short time between sending the 6th packet to the red gem and actually collecting the red gem (but no deficit before then). As soon as you collect the red gem, you should start digging towards all the other gems and technytes, and I believe I built 10 reactors or so. Once you get the blue gem build shields as necessary (do not build the entire line of shields right away - you should only build the ones you  have to until you have spare energy). Try to aim for running out of crystal energy just before (within a second of) grabbing the next crystal (ideally) by spending them on reactors. As soon as you have the green gem you should have enough reactors running and crystal energy that you shouldn't really have a problem finishing the shield wall and grabbing the rest of the artifacts.

I started building the dark beam at around 1:10 which was way later than I needed to since I had about +17 energy by the time the dark beam finished and I only needed 12, I still had a full layer of shields + more room for another layer if needed so it didn't particularly matter.

Yeah it's possible, I of course grabbed the blue gem first, then I just massed shields around me (once the creeper got close enough) while building as many reactors as I could, started digging towards the red gem and technytes that were really far away. Once the creeper started breaking through some of the shields I started building 2 conversion bombs that I set off and rebuilt some shields, which lasted long enough to get my dark beam running. I took reactor efficiency with the technytes in this case since my dark beam was already pretty much finished and the reactor efficiency put me over +12 energy, if one were to actually play through the map it would probably be faster to take -20% unit cost but either way works well enough.

Someone try out to paper as Large/high

It may or may not be possible...  :-\

This is not a hard map to start out with but a really tough slog fest.

The chamber in the middle of the map with two emitters contains an emitter with a strength of 97.1 mil. Is that possible without experimentals? Plus the limited space to build reactors in the beginning.

All you veterans out there, give it a shot and tell me what you think!

333 any/high

Large/high has an 11m surface emitter plus a 15m emitter below one layer of dissolving ground. Small has a surface gateway as well, and the surface emitter on both small and medium is slightly stronger than large. No available crystals and nowhere to dig in on any.

Medium/medium is a tough fight at first, but winnable.

Well done - but personally if I played through it I suspect I wouldn't have built any repulsors at all, I'm finding that using conversion bombs + shields works much better for stalling normally (ie. send in 1-2 conversion bombs, set them off and build shields as far out as you can with the anti-creeper bubble then build more shields as necessary, and repeat once you have to) - kind of like you did with the bottom chamber, except that I do that constantly everywhere. It takes a fair amount of micromanagement to do well, but it's very energy efficient and works regardless of the creeper density as well as not needing to fully dig in the LS.

Not impossible:

(click to show/hide)
Built 3 conversion bombs without taking white gem (was very tempting to take it - I think if one were playing for time it would be better to take it, but it makes the map much more tedious to manage)

(click to show/hide)

Moved my LS into the cavern, shielded the emitter in and nullified it, then built another conversion bomb to deal with the leftover creeper building more shields as necessary.

(click to show/hide)

Not how I would actually play through it, but just to prove that it's possible - easy enough to set up a dark beam and get enough energy production for it now. Wasn't really doing anything precise at this point since I don't really play through experimental maps fully.

I solved this slightly differently. I went right, dug out the green gem and immediately built 3 blasters. With careful management, they were enough to keep the drones at bay while I dug myself in underground, and then built reactors etc. on the far right. Also had to build (and carefully position) first one and then two Coils. When I got my 4th blaster built, I was all set and the battle was over.

Was really fun in the early stages and I restarted about 5 times before I had it pat. After that I gave up, since the rest was fairly routine.

I used different strategy, apparently inferior :]

It took me about 45 minutes to clear top two emitters. I couldn't get enough energy for continuous DB, but beam uptime was sufficient to keep dark mirrors from breaking.

I have finally managed to beat the absurdly difficult qwertyuiopasdfghjkl;'zxcvbnm,. large/high

I started out by taking the green gem and flying the LS straight down through the emitter. I then dug out 4 cells from the right wall and flew down there, and into the cave at the bottom-right. I let the drones out pre-emptively from a path at the bottom, and once all the drones had started pathing to the LS I finished building a shield in front of the medium decayable terrain where the creeper hits it on 2 sides (this step is very important - I had to make sure the drones would get inside of that cave fast enough that I could build shields to block the creeper off after the drones follow the LS).

(click to show/hide)

I start using LS drone evasion on the high health drones - but the small drones up top will take too long to reach the LS so I can't use it on them or the creeper will flood the chamber I'm in - so I built 3 reactors, and a bunch of shields to wall the creeper and drones, and start nullifying the gateway. Some of the drones crashed into the shields before the nullifier finished, and the gateway sent out 4 drones - one of these drones targetted my LS so I could just use drone evasion on that one, and I crashed the LS into the other 3 drones leaving my LS at 0.69 health to protect my other buildings (you can avoid this by building fewer reactors - but you will very desperately need the extra energy income for the next few minutes)

(click to show/hide)

Originally I thought I would need to dig the LS down further, so I was placing reactors with that in mind - it turns out I never needed to dig the LS further down so there is some room for improvement in the way I played through this part - I pretty much waited as long as possible before building shields every time so I could build more reactors, and sometimes built shields in front of my other shields if the fields allow for it to make some more room - this only happens at the top, on the right the creeper is far too dense for the fields to push it back significantly (there are 3 emitters just to the right of you each at about 150M intensity if you hadn't noticed). I built a single phantom coil to stop the phantoms, and deactivated it just as the last phantom died - I did not have a single packet of energy extra sent to the phantom coil - I was saving as much as I possibly could for reactors. You have to spend almost all of your energy defending at this point, and it's important to get reactors running as fast as you can, because you'll eventually run out of space for shields.

(click to show/hide)

From here I bjuild up and finally have enough energy production that I can consistently build more reactors while rebuilding shields - I finally built a dark beam and enough reactors to power it - I would like to point out that if I had to move the shields a single space further to the left, that I would no longer have enough space for the LS to evade the drones indefinitely.

(click to show/hide)

With some carefully timed movements, I put all my mirrors in place to protect all my buildings and the decayable terrain on both sides of me, and finally killed off the drones and put the beam in position to kill any future drones. From here it's a simple experimental map to build up and kill off the emitters.

(click to show/hide)

This is easily the most difficult map I've ever beaten - if anyone feels insane, then feel free to try this map (my 5 and a half minutes of game time took me several hours to get to work)

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps

Is this thread still open for discussion?

I'd like to submit apple know floor.

The good news is:  No phantoms, no surface drones.

The bad news is:  15m emitter three squares from the surface, right in the middle.  The diggable area to the left is overrun within 7 seconds.

You cannot shield the emitter into its chasm.

There is an ore deposit three squares from the right side, preventing you from digging any further away from the emitter, and even if you dig down past it you will run into breakable terrain with another emitter underneath it.

But that's all assuming you can even dig.  To gain even the illusion of a foothold, you must build a shield wall in the aforementioned 7 seconds.  If you build the wall 4 shields high, you have no energy to dig.  If you build the wall 3 shields high, you have energy to dig a hole the exact size of the LS.  In both cases, the 0g just makes the creeper wrap right around the shield anyway.

There is also a blue crystal 5 squares into the ground, but did I mention the strength of this emitter?  The creeper travels across the map as fast as your LS does.

There is a digabble area to the right you can sort of squeeze into, but even if you were able to make the necessary defenses, you're left with about 4 squares of usable space.

So maybe I've found a map that is, in fact, impossible.

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Kithros on December 06, 2011, 07:29:43 am
This map requires a rather unusual technique, but I believe it should be possible - I'll have to see where this leads me.

I built 2 shields over the terrain by the blue gem, and then I flew my LS over the shields back and forth to pick up the blue gem:

(click to show/hide)

From there I dug into the walls, built a wall of shields before digging through the terrain and flying my LS in:

(click to show/hide)

The main problem from here will be setting up in time before the drones break through - I will need to have a dark beam for sure, but I can probably get away with having a bit less than +12 energy per second and microing the dark beam + using some conversion bombs to slow down the creeper. I might be able to set up the dark beam in time with +12 energy though, I'm not sure yet.

EDIT: Was easier than I thought to set up, I timed lots of things pretty badly, but I just massed reactors and built up the dark beam. The creeper on the left side will break through and kill some of my reactors, but it won't go past the dark beam and I have enough reactors elsewhere at this point that it doesn't matter.

Sorry for a newbie question, but what is this LS drone evasion you guys keep talking about?

Essentially just flying the LS in circles with all the drones targeting the LS - the LS moves just as fast as drones, so it can do this indefinitely without needing to kill any drones (and the gateways have a maximum amount of drones they can send out so there won't be any more heading your way). On a side note this is why I will always make the normal drones on my maps 1.1 speed (and recommend to other map makers they do the same), because it's a very tedious and lame strategy to use (but highly effective).
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: xoft on December 16, 2011, 07:04:42 am
I tried running my LS in circles but it didn't work - the drones were 'cutting corners' too much and finally caught up with my LS. I guess it's about practice, then. Thanks for the explanation.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps

I'd say "Fulnek" is pretty impossible. It gives you ample time at the start, but then the map is quickly flooded with creeper, high-health drones and phantoms. I just couldn't find any strategy good enough to get a decent foothold.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Fisherck on December 17, 2011, 10:44:11 am
Since you didn't mention what height or difficulty it was I found what I assumed to be the hardest one :) which was Fulnek Medium/High
I chose medium and not large because the surface emitters were actually stronger than large, there were surface drones, and 8 phantoms that went off about every 50 seconds. Quite a hard map, but not impossible ;)

Large/high would present a different problem because of the stronger drones, but they are also delayed, because they are underground.

Here is how I did it...
By the last screenshot, since I have my dark beam up (with at least 12 energy), I know I will beat that map. :)
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: xoft on December 17, 2011, 11:03:18 am
After about 30 restarts I actually did manage to take a foothold, so my initial guess was wrong.

And I meant large / high, just forgot to write that. Yes, the drones are delayed, but when they break out, it all comes at once - creeper, phantoms and the drones. And it's a hell of a work to get enough energy by that time to fight them all off. So it is possible, but rather demanding :)

Fulnek is easier if you build the dark beam way early, and just pulse it to take down the drones (they usually approach in a line).

I submit let as water large/high.

Experimental map.  No phantoms, buried drones, ample crystal energy, 10m and 8m surface emitters.  No technytes, however.

The 8m quickly fills the left side and adds a little more oomph to the 10m positioned in the center.  You're unable to dig your LS into the right side, due to undiggable terrain near the right wall, and a stupid ore deposit right in the middle of the only other gap.  Even if you could, it would leave precious little room for an energy farm.

Edit:

And way blue ask large/high.

I was able to grab all the available crystals (3, for a total of over 300 energy), and wall myself in, but the right side isn't very conducive to digging in and shielding.  I could get about 5 energy, and part of a dark beam constructed before the creeper broke through my shields, I'm sure someone can beat it.

Second edit:  My last attempt at way blue ask is with repulsors.
(click to show/hide)
Unfortunately it takes all of the crystal energy up until that point to set up, and you can't produce enough to maintain them.  Else I'd call it beatable.

Third edit:  Tell me when to stop guys...

 way blue ask large/high.

I was able to slap a shield cap over the opening (1 layer above the ground) and then - by grabbing all the available crystals, building more layers of shields, conversion bombs, and reactors all at the same time - finally nullify the surface emitter. Will have to finish tomorrow (getting late  ;)) but am to the point where victory is inevitable.

once go said large/high

It's straightforward enough, limited space but ample crystal energy.

Fresh start
(click to show/hide)

Only workable strat I've found
(click to show/hide)

Grabbing the red crystal underneath me gets me some quick energy, at the cost of a couple of shields, but it leaves me behind some decaying terrain.  This is actually a positive, as I need immediate access to the emitter (just not at the moment).  The white crystal on the right is ripe for the picking, and it's trivial to set a shield in place to stop the creeper.

On my first attempt I thought this would be an absolute cakewalk, all the energy I need to build whatever, and only one exposed emitter, then I looked at the strength, 65 mils on that thing.  Oh well, better start building.  Here come the drones, oh noes! :(

Alright, try two, k, we'll build some blasters after we secure that white gem and set them to drones only, works great.  Now we'll build some conversion bombs for that titan.  I can only build three on my (now limited) energy supply.  (By the way, if you try to build four, the ground will decay underneath you and the drones will head for the new shortest path to you, rendering your bombs and shields useless.)

How it ends up
(click to show/hide)

I cannot get a quick enough nullify on this thing.  As soon as the ground breaks, I send two in and convert a path straight to it, I grab the green gem on the way and plant a nullifier as soon as possible.  There's no energy starvation, and I'll even convert the titan again once it starts pushing back towards my nullifier.  The thing just puts out too much creeper.

So maybe I'm managing wrong, or something, show me up.

It's almost possible to hide under the left emitter, if you could dig further down then it might be possible by sending a conversion bomb down to the 300M+ emitter to bubble yourself from the creeper - but there's no room to build shields after going there since you can't dig any more space for the LS.

I can't take any of Emperium's times seriously since he is exploiting some hack/glitch in at least some of his times (for instance, he has a 25 second time on day 2, which is 100% definitely impossible). I do not believe that is a legitimate time.

street think then large/high

Actually, any size, since the surface emitter prevents action. Have tried building up in a corner like may let here on the first page, but the emitter is much closer. I can snag the gem, but there's no way to build fast enough.

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuv large/high

I can get myself just barely under the surface on the left and can get some time from the drones and the left pocket of creeper if I don't take one of the gems, but either I have to spend all of my crystal energy on a shield wall or on phantom coils to beat off the 10 phantoms every 45-ish seconds.  Perhaps someone with better timing can beat this one.

EDIT:  Attached image and large/medium is doable.

nowhere near impossible. I flew the LS down, and built shields along the side, then got a gem. Then I let the shields kill the drones while I got some blasters and reactors up. The rest was cake. (I waited until a little too far into the game to take a screenshot)

It's safe to assume all of his scores are posted with hacks, in a thread somewhere he came out and blatantly said he had submitted scores with a hacked game. So all of his scores should probably be tossed out.

Pretty sure I've got an impossible one here, also not sure if it's been found yet, low on time at the moment, so I can't search this thread.

were from of

Has 1.66 upwards to the left gravity with a surface emitter and drone gateway with phantoms in two minutes, creeper hits the surface in just 20 seconds.

There are quite a few crystals nearby, I've not given it a go, and am not very skilled, but they may make it possible.

All of that is on medium/medium, for a less time, go large/high as creeper hits the surface in 4 seconds!

were from of is easily doable. the up gravity means that you can ignore the creeper and it will just pool at the top of the level until you want to deal with it.

Thanks, it's great to be back. ;D

On another note, I guess I am rusty, or just suck as I can't keep a foothold.
As he stated the creeper is no issue, it's just me not being able to keep the drones in a perfect loop with the LS until I can get enough energy to support a blaster or two, one just stops then goes to intercept the LS causing another to be able to spawn and cut me off. :-\

Looks like I'll keep sitting back from these maps until I manage to improve. :D

Or maybe I need to give it a go when it's not late and I'm not tired... ::)

I don't really understand the whole drone evasion thing. I usually just let the first 4 drones run into the ship and then start building walls, a wall kills 3 or 4 drones and only costs 5 minerals, it's very cost effective.

Common sense is not so common. Large/High

129m surface emitter, and not much for hiding spaces.  50 seconds in all surface tiles are covered in creeper.
maybe doable, but im skeptical, lol, either way, its not one i stand a chance on.

Relatively standard; building a shield allows one to grab the green gem besides the white one. Next a quick build of shields allows for enough time to take the other green gem, as well as the blue one. Then you can dig in using repulsors (which felt appropriate as the surface intensity wasn't very high). The rest is standard.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Blaze on March 16, 2012, 03:19:43 pm
Well now, this one has got me stumped completely.

18 L/H has a surface emitter on the left side, with gravity going to the right, when the phantoms hit, there is no room on the surface for any structures as the creeper has covered it, phantoms hit in 34 seconds, the only way I can see this being done is if you get perfect timing and dig into the right side.

But all that in 34 seconds, I can't see it being done.
But then again, Nor'easter was deemed impossible, and that's been beaten.

Another interesting trait this map has is fast switching fields for the surface emitter, it has an interesting effect on the creeper inside of the cavern.

If you do say this is doable, please post a screenshot with proof. :)

Dammit, you beat me by 5 seconds!

Well my strategy was a bit different. I simply flew into the cave and built my base there, and attacked the emitter when I was ready.

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Blaze on March 16, 2012, 05:49:53 pm
Yep. I gotta start thinking outside of the box. :D

Speaking of which, are there any code maps at all that truly are impossible, and can be brought up now by entering the code?

Yep, me again, 132 L/H no gravity, fairly flat ground, and an emitter right below the background picture.
Not even thinking outside the box can I figure this one out, but once again, I suck at these types of maps.

And yes, I'm going up one number at a time to try and find a truly impossible map. :D

Once again! 189 L/H like 18 but with two surface emitters and a surface gateway, right gravity, and the emitter on the left has fields that pumps creeper out onto and across the surface, and I was not able to get Karsten's strategy from 18 to work.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Wheatmidge on March 17, 2012, 11:55:17 am
189 L/H is done.
I need to figure how to post screen shots.
Anyway, I dug down grabbed the gems while blocking the creeper with shields, then dug the ship into the ground and defended it with a blaster set to attack only drones and 6 repulsors. with the basic defense up I hallowed out almost the entire level and then pushed out.

Blaze, I'm pretty sure if you read back through this thread there were a few unbeatable maps.

And someone has figured out the conversion between the character string entered and the numbers (I think it might have been echo51). So if you get the names of maps mentioned here that were unbeatable, then you can figure out their number.

But, OTOH, if you are just having fun, good luck in your quest!  :)

I have beaten 132 h/l - thanks to 2b3o4o for tips how to start.
After clean the surface I destroyed the gates and emitters with the beam and used conversion bombs to take the creeper off.
It took me a little over 1 hour - it can be done much faster but I like to have some fun after I take the advantage :)
Will add screen later.

think rain farm - Large/High  - surface emiter 14M and gates spaming drone, no time to catch 1 gem.

put is fly - this map is trivial. I just don't want to waste my time on it.

Here is where everyone learn from each other.

My friend, I, personally, prefer to find solutions by myself, not to learn them from the others. Even if I put screenshots under the spoiler, it is possible that someone will not resist temptation and will look at it and will become unhappy - at least, this is how it happens to me sometimes.

From what I see (your posts) - you are fully equipped with experience to beat "blue may away". Little tip regarding hard drones: you should kill them with dark beam. Build dark beam device before 17 health drones reach you. Sure, you will have no energy to fire dark beam permanently, but all you need is to fire it from time to time to shoot down drones.

Sorry, I dont have a savegame from this mission, already overwritten it. The idea is to take 3 crystals, red, white, and blue on the left, build all possible land with reactors + some research labs. Defend with blasters (antidrone mode only), repulsors over each hole (sometimes you will need 2) and dark beam. You must choose location of dark beam device carefully and use system of mirrors to be able to shoot it in each hole - to kill drones and reduce creeper.

Once you reach equilibrium - make upgrades, upgrades, upgrades and shoot down closest emitter - in 3-4 stages, accumulating energy between attacks.

It's not even mildly unsettling on large/medium.  You can slap a shield cap on the right emitter and use shields for the drones until you get a few reactors going.  Large/High is giving me some trouble, I'm running low on energy when the first round of phantoms comes around, but I'm confident that someone with better timing can beat it.

I admittedly suck at this game, but can anyone else best these? Screenshots Please!

Narcissistic Cannibal Small/High. This one is actually WAY worse at small than anything else.

Skrillex Small/High Too many drones...spam 19 health drones....then 9 health drones to boot, oh, and did I mention the 10 phantoms and the 2 emitters...

Every Time I Die!!!!! Small/High

It's Electric! Boogey Boogey Boogey Small/High

Lethal Interjection Squad!?!?!?!?!?!? Small/High

Korn!!!!!!!!!!!! Small/High - This one is especially bad, all usable ground is gone in 11 seconds flat.

Suicide Small/High This one is probably not so unbeatable, I just thought it was interesting how the gravity manages to make this map like 10x harder. I have never seen one like this before, so I am sharing it! ;)

Just Do It Small/High - This is not impossible, quite the opposite. Has anyone else ever found a code map that generates a blank map? I mean 0 of everything...

Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps

I just beat "ground window day" on Large/High.

The trick is to rush the 3 crystals at the top, then shield the right side with 2 blasters to buy you time. You need 5 phantom coils to hold off the waves of phantoms, and the crystals will afford you 8 reactors, 5 coils, and 4 blasters(on the left). After that, it's just a matter of getting 4 blasters on the right, burning down the first emitter, and working your way through the rest of the map.

You can basically ignore all the creeper going to the left side of the map for a loooooong time, because it's 2.29 gravity up-left.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Pakars on July 26, 2012, 11:53:41 pm
I immediately followed up on "put is fly". Move your ship to the far right side of the map, near the ground.

You rush to the blue crystal and remnant, then, you build reactors, a maker, and start working down the right edge of the map for the silver crystal, building reactors as you go.

Once you have the silver crystal, you're low on anti-creeper, so you make 4 blasters, 2 tech domes, and a bunch of reactors, while you nab the nanochip(fire rate, use your tech lab upgrades all on reactor) and expand your network to pick up the green crystals.

The instant you pick up the first green crystal, build 4-6 more blasters and a launcher, and you'll be safe. After that, it's just working inside the ground to get a ton of reactors and additional tech labs, then get a dark laser and kill the emitter aboveground.

After that, it's your choice, but I found conversion bombs to be by far the fastest way to clear the level.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: Pakars on July 27, 2012, 12:32:57 am
I just crushed my way through 18.... through the fact that the liberation ship can wade through a significant amount of creeper to get to safe areas.

Given that it was a right gravity map @ 3.38(if I remember correctly), I decided that I'd go to the far left of the map. This was accomplished by digging through the spot against the wall on the left, then the dirt right next to the emitter and 1 step below at the same time. It gave me just enough room to squeeze past the emitter into the middle-left of the map... where the creeper fields were quite happily keeping me safe from the creeper.

I then got a single blaster, 2 coils, and took over the entire map, one step at a time.

Edit: After doing all this, I see that the first post hasn't been updated in a while. People beat me to both ground window day and 18, but nobody had completed "put is fly" before me.

@Jarin -
See attached picture for "5201" at about 2:00 - getting that second gem (White) was the first key, then augmenting your defense with a Maker. From then on out it was just a matter of time.

It was a challenge, especially with the breakout of the big drones virtually coincident with the first phantoms, I lost a few buildings there; but after this intricate point a base was quickly set up; when the foothold was established no big hurdles remained.

Is there another list of impossible games - other than the one on page 1 of this thread?
I also don't see scores for either of those games in L/H.

I hope you understand that there are more than 4000000000 maps. The chances of someone else happenning to land on the same maps as you completely by themselves is rather... miniscule.... :)
I've landed on 2 of the maps in this thread. I bought the game 2 days ago.

Odd things seem to happen around me.

Kappa Beta Alpha L/H seems impossible. A near surface emitter and gateway that spams drones, and while there is a place to dig in, there doesn't seem to be enough time. What accessible crystals that exist are on decayable terrain,  and are uncollectable due to creeper. It might be possible with LS evasion and shields, but I'm not good enough to manage it.
M/H may be impossible as well.

Chawe800Small/High

Not sure if possible.

I'm pretty sure it is requires some fancy LS movement and crystal rushing.

Watch out for the creeper's second rush it always killed me.

(All though I bet Someone like TrickyDragon of SmileyCoder could pull it off in a few tries)

Have fun with this challenge guys  :D

4906 L/H this is a mean, mean map. no surface emitters, but 3 of them under the ground that break free in a few minutes. two of them have drone-spamming gateways, and every 45 seconds you get 10 phantoms. if that wasn't bad enough, there is barely any room to dig in, with only enough room to get your collection up to 9 or so.
Title: Re: Impossible Code Maps
Post by: florrat on December 02, 2012, 01:38:07 pm
@Sushiman, that map is indeed very mean, but entirely possible. I found room to gather 11 energy on the surface, which gave me enough time to clear out the upper layer of creeper, and to build more reactors needed to fully supply my dark beam. From there on, it is straightforward. See attachment.

EDIT: Thank you for posting it, I liked the challenge. Also, It took a great deal of micromanagement (N key).

That was quite a tough beginning. I little drone evasion and very careful energy conservation allows you to grab the gems and dig in. Hmmm, I thought I took a screen shot once I was safely dug in. But I guess I didn't.

I'm quite wrestling with today's map, "April 14, 2013", on Large / High. It has experimentals, but very little initial build space. I've managed to last until 2:01, but it's more like a stalemate - I can turn my dark beam on and off to sustain it off the 10.75 energy I have, but cannot build any further.

This map is very beatable. One way to start out would be to go after the diamond right away for the 200 crystal energy. While you dig that out, you can put up a shield in the path of the drones to stall them for a little while. Once you have the diamond, you can build several blasters at the same time in order to hold off the drones and also some reactors, and then deal with the exposed emitters and gateways.

I'd consider myself an average CW2 player at best.  I've tried multiple approaches from getting the white gem first(drones cause problems with 5 of them coming from the gateway immediately) to building reactors/blasters(which helped, but only prolonged my defeat)

Here's to hoping someone can prove this one beatable.

You can use shields or repulsors to hold the creeper back long enough.
Try not to a kill a single drone. Just fly around.

I just posted a score on this map. It's not too difficult to get started on this one, as long as you use some of the tricks for dealing with drones that are exposed at the beginning. I built a shield first to take out the first couple of drones (Shields are good at keeping drones away without having to outlay a lot of energy first). Then, I grabbed the green gem. With a little energy in store, I then built a few reactors (But not too many, because I didn't want to run out of crystal energy before getting the red crystal), and two blasters. I continued to build shields before the previous one was destroyed, but without building them all at once, using up all of my energy stores. Once you get the red gem, your blasters should be just about finished building, and you can use them to hold off the drones, the rest of your crystal energy to build more reactors, and of course build one or two phantom coils before the first spore attack.

askdmalskdasls, wpc,s'w[d,ffkv small/high There's an emitter in a hole with a strength of around 7000K and creeper flows out in too high a volume to build anything as it floods the surface in a few seconds.
lick a suck large/high Drones are spawned close to the starting point, if nothing is done, you will die in 27 seconds exactly. Not sure how that's beatable.

Justin Beiber large/high drones are spawned occasionally but about half the land at the surface is covered in creeper too early to build a blaster. I was able to last about 2 minutes with only a small fraction of land, creeper all around and 3 blasters before i got bored. Thsi is atleast a very difficult map if not impossible.

December 21, 2012 Large/high I kid you not, this mission is atleast extremely hard (atleast to me). You get a wave of dornes easily handled by 1 blaster, however you have about 8 or 10 phantmos coming at you in the first half minute or so. Good luck.

Rainbo Large/high With an emitter at 17M strength practically on the surface (technically 17000K ingame, but let's face it. they're both the same value) no gravity and as such growth in all directions with drones. Seriously. If you can beat this, you'd deserve a medal.

Princess Cel large/high Another creeper rush map, in this one, you get massive amounts all over the place at the 20 second mark, a shield wall will delay death until 1:24ish, where it's obvious you're going down (if you're me and have only 1 blaster at that moment and a wall of creeper)

Easy Large/high any other variation of this map is easy, however this specific one isn't at all. you've got weak drones which are handleable, they spawn immediately though. Gravity fields prevent creeper with 1000K+ density upon first second of activation of emitter delyas the creeper for a little bit. Very Ironic name xD

Tau Tau Theta small/high This si a mean little map, 700million emitter strength, two of them have access to the surface alongside a steadyish wave of 4 hp drones.

here party as small/high This is guaranteed impossible, if nothing is done, in 10 seconds you are touching creeper.

(last one i promise)
east this, gree large/high this time before 20 seconds are up, if having done nothing, drones and a creeper wall will be attacking you. Dubbing this impossible.

You don't have to attack these drones in the beginning. Just fly around while building infrastructure. But be prepared for the red drones. You need many shields and anticreeper when they break free. Fun map with a lot of action.

Close the little hole on the right side immediately with a shield. That keeps the ground dry.

I can't beat it on high. The red drones are too fast.

But on medium you can defend a long time with a maker until the beam is running.

clambbak large/high Zero G, emitter open to surface, 7 drones @ 17 health escape at about 30 seconds. Could never get crystal energy soon enough to defend against the drones. (closest I came was getting three blasters built and partially loaded - but I had insufficient room to evade the drones and they destroyed the LS.)

I was also unable to survive on small/high - lots more drones; but only 4 hp. I can get defenses built; but it's 'build blasters or enough reactors to power them'. Not enough crystal energy or time to do both.

On medium/high the drones never escape to surface; and I was able to use a maker and the remnant ore at surface to buy time to build energy/weapons.

There is a quite unpopular technique of switching the DB on/off to save energy. That works here very well. You should better try shields instead of blasters to defend against the early drones.

If this set of maps counts, then this really fits. Has an emitter and gateway both with a easy, short path to Odin, and drones get to Odin in 20 seconds. The creeper gets to it a few seconds behind the drones and phantoms about 45 seconds from the start. Oh, there's no gravity and the nearest crystal opens a path for another emitter to odin.

ea3401,

Just.... How...
How did you manage to become this insanely good and have such good ideas?! I've stalked you a little ( ;D ) and you even have some insane high scores! (I just did Farbor and got the 105th position, saw you got the 32nd one).

Teach me, oh wise one.

EDIT: still trying to make it work... :/

OMG! Guys, I just have to share this with you. Senior masters should remember this ridiculously hard map:

qwertyuiopasdfghjkl;'zxcvbnm,.
large/high

Long time ago great master Kithros have beaten it by flying down to big cave and then using tricky strategy involving LS drone evasion. Later on, I have beaten it without using LS drone evasion, but still flying down to big cave, for details check this thread (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=9960)

Now, I have beaten it without flying down, but defending the top of the map. Check it, map is really special.

Zero gravity, experimentals, two surface emitters, a surface drone gateway, and 10 phantoms after 1 minute if you somehow manage to survive that long.

Edit: Looks like it's not impossible after all.

The red drones killed me at 1:20, but it might be possible to survive in the underground somehow.

I haven't finished the map, but you are save, once the dark beam is running. It's definitely not impossible, but quite challenging.
