A NOTE TO ANYONE HAVING TROUBLE.
1: THERE IS NO POSSIBLE ORDER OF EVENTS IN THIS MAP THAT CAN MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE.
2: GO DOWN THROUGH THE MAGMA PIT FIRST, OR THIS MAP BECOMES A SLOG.
3: MOVE ANTI CREEPER UP THROUGH THE PATH AT THE WIZARD'S FOOT TO INITIATE THE FINAL BATTLE, IT MAY TAKE A SECOND FOR THE DRONE TO ESCAPE, BUT YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE GATE THERE DECAYING RIGHT AWAY.
I HOPE THIS LARGE CAPITALIZED TEXT HAS GOTTEN YOUR ATTENTION, AND I AM SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION, I'LL TRY TO KEEP THE NEXT MAP FROM BEING SO CONFUSING... OR AT LEAST EXPLAIN IT BETTER IN THE PLOT.

After many hours of hard work, PeterPower and I are proud to present what is looking like the start to a very epic series. So to kick things off, here you go. Read the plot for full enjoyment of the overall series. Also, to add just a little more awesomeness to this map, put on this song before playing. http://www.yourepeat.com/watch?v=EptSSXNHIfg Mute cw2 music, of course. Have fun!

Fields/terrain layout done by me.
Custom art/dragon drawing/general balancing(including drone timings) Done by PeterPower.
evilness contributed to by both of us. You can thank PeterPower for the final battle. :P

Very VERY good job! Those fields must have taken days to make(at-least)! :o I loved how the dragon disperses as you fight your way into the magma pit, the idea of hiding in the moat at the beginning is very creative, and the wizard clearing away the fire; GENIUS!!!!!! :D :D *peaks at fields and faints*
Overall, this is HANDS DOWN THE BEST MAP I'VE EVER PLAYED!
Oh dear! I seem to have forgeten to even mention the art?! I shall proceed to ramble on about that as well. :P
The castle was remarkably well done, and as for the dragon; it was a true masterpiece! The only thing remotely  bad about this map is the bit of castle underground. But that was unavoidable and doesn't matter that much any way. GET IT NOW!(or later :P)

You might thank me for the final battle existing, but thank Ebon_Heart for doing all the work to create it! As well as the amazing feilds. We had trouble with the decaying tile images, especially on the see-thru tiles, so I finally decided on burnt tiles. I think it looks good in the fire and also good underground as it looks like the tiles crumble away into nothing.

The dragon definately looks great, but Ebon_Heart animating it is what made it amazing. I learned alot about advanced feild usage watching him design this map.

Also note: there is a Screenshot Walkthrough  at http://dagongame.blogspot.com.

well you can at least thank PeterPower for the dragon drawing. lol. Also, I'll post a guide here soon for anyone who's stuck on the map. For now if you can't figure out what to do, message me or PeterPower.

Amazing map, and very glad i saved before unleashing the water. I'm gonna have to come back and finish this tomorrow with many, many more weapons. No seriously people, save before you even think about using a repulser ;)

actually, you can use all the repulsors you want... as long as they're facing down. Move that ice pit up through the castle... and get ready for one heck of a fight! Make sure you have lots of blasters, and shields. Flooding the magma pit with water helps quite a bit, too. Also, what do you guys think of the plot? I haven't gotten any real feedback on it yet.

I'm stuck near the end of the map. I've gone from above, destroying the dragon then attacking through the frozen AC, and from below, which seems closer to the intent. The dig sites have all been dug in both cases, but for the ones keeping the large drone from getting out. Is this a bug or did i miss something ?

When the water starts flowing into the castle, the dragon will release the large drone. It says this in the Holocube by the wizards foot... But I was worried about this not being obvious enough. Like Nate Dog said, save before you even THINK of using a repulsor pointing at that castle. And as I've pointed out several times, the map is easier when you read the text. :P

I've read all the texts, but i dont see what is supposed to happen. Perhaps i shouldnt have destroyed the dragon first ? Then i need to start over.

No, no. Destroy the dragon. You have to use repulsors to dislocate the water in the frozen spring. When the water flows into the castle, the drone is released. Aside from destroying all the water on the map (next to impossible to do, and would take hours) there is no way to make the map impossible.
For everyone's ease of mind, let me explain how the trigger works. There is an anti creeper pin field under the holocube under the wizard's foot. Every frame, it tries to grab anti creeper from there and bring it to a cell containing 2.47B anti creeper. If it has anti creeper there, this subcell overflows and becomes creeper. if it does this, then that creeper is teleported to the space with the big drone in it, so that it can decay the wall there. Then that happens, the gateway digs itself out.

Great map/use of fields (those fields are not hard (no field is hard to create, to me) to create but it takes hours (mayby days) to create, and then you must find the mistakes you made somewhere).

After moving in that pit, I built reactors everywhere I could and 2 blasters to kill the drones. Then I started to dig ground to build reactors while slowly building addictional blasters and 2 launchers to kill the creeper before it kills mine. (I had 2 rows filled with 2 reactors, 2 launchers and blasters) After I got the gems I got into the cave (make sure you have your upgraded your weapons (tech))(from this point the gateway will start digging to your LS, start building a few blasters) and I killed the dragon and the emitters in the cave. I did not prepare for the final drone battle and I didn't save the game. My blasters were still near and I had 2 MR's ready to keep some drones moving there, until the creeper destroyed one of them.

No field is hard to create? While I agree these fields weren't terribly difficult (just a lot of work), I don't agree with this statement. Let's see if you still say that after part 4 of this series.

I did not say it was easy (and still it isn't). Only said it is not hard (mayby '(not) hard' means something different to you) or I may just haven't seen those 'hard' fields. I hope you can show me/us part 4 soon.

Well after completing the map the first time around, I replayed it and cut off about 20 minutes. I guess my first time was bad and my second was okay, but still a very fun play the second time around! I really can't wait to see the other levels.

I now accept this is a good map. First run through I blasted my way through the 1500m creeper to get into the cave and as a result thought it was poor. I was wrong, it is the product of genii (or geniuses if you want to be pedantic) coming from a great pedigree.

Oh and btw I also took nearly 20 minutes off my time by breaking into the cave early.

Hah, I thought the 1500M creeper there would be enough deterrent to get people to NOT do that...

You're doing fine. Notice that the terrain by the drone is starting to decay. :P It'll be out to play soon.

You should use backspace to take a screenshot. You could build 2 micro rifts and disable them when a drone moves to it (when it's close) and activate them when they try to move to the other MR (disable that MR and they will go back to the first when reaching the disabled MR). While doing this your blasters could shoot at them. But I think you could beat those drones without that trick (If one slips through you have enough AC and reactors (to build extra blasters) to beat them).

And btw, welcome to the community!

You would think so Ebon, but that's the same thing that happened to me. I figured the AC was going to be useful in the cave below instead of for that block. But that's more my bad thinking and not a bad map design :P

I have read your buildup in your previous forum topic about your series. That gave me pretty high expectations. To those high expectations I added the experience that comes from playing your (PeterPower & Ebon Heart) maps.

That brings me to very high expectations. Throughout today, I followed this topic and read all the good reviews which added to those expectations for the map.

You see the problem now was that I had extremely high expectations, so high that they couldn't possibly be fullfilled.

Now you took my expectations and proved me wrong. This is an incredible piece of work. A real masterpiece.

Yeah, there's just one problem now. We have to meet those same incredibly high expectations, 4 more times throughout this series. Not to mention the expectations added on by each map like this we submit. We set the bar incredibly high for ourselves already with the first mission.

Did I really forget the plot?! There are just to many good things about this map to list!
Well, the plot excelled in many ways, I must admit the romance at the beginning (and the end)enthralled
me, and calling repulsors heat beams? Genius! The wizard also seemed very wizardey. :P

It is great to see so much interest in this map. But, on the other hand my "Dagon" series is unofficially discontinued because of the interest. :) I'd imagine Ebon_Heart's First Encounter's series is also on hold now. But, enough talking, I'd better get back to making those Lv2 tiles before he finds out I'm slacking off. (oh no, not the whip again! I'm working, I promise!)  :D

I'm a fan now. lmao. I'd actually never heard of them before this. After about an hour of searching through music on youtube, I found "dragon rider" by them, and thought it fit the first map perfectly. After that, I picked the rest of the music from them, and related bands based on what went with the maps.

Once we get to part 4 in this series, Peter will probably have a lot of time to work on his Dagon series... That map is gonna take forever with the field work. And I hope to get First Encounters parts 5-7 out soon. They're pretty much done. They all just need a bit more work before they're ready for the public.

Haha, Yah, Dagon-DRAGON was actually not a coincidence. In the original plot for that series I had planned Dagon to die in the last level and come back as a benevolent (Asian) dragon who helps Sarah and Samuel fight an overwhelming military force. Of course at this point, there are so many dragons flying around in my levels, I'm thinking about changing the plot! :)
I hope I will get back to the Dagon series eventually. ;)

I'm not sure that "Ebon Hear PeterPower and TrickyDragon" would fit in the author space. :P you'll get to see part 2 when it's ready... Shouldn't be too much longer, presuming I'm able to use my laptop this weekend. (I've been having some medical issues recently, which may cause a slight delay) but don't worry, CAT scan results came in today, and it's nothing life threatening. I'm condemned to an iPhone with low brightness settings for now.
EDIT: also, lich, I gave up on trying to get Dbit to post a map. He has more stubbornness than I have patience. :P

WALKTHROUGH.
This is a screenshot walkthrough for those of us who don't have fast internet. :)
http://dagongame.blogspot.com (yes, it's on the same Blog as my Dagon#8 walkthrough)

1:30: Enter the pond, Build 4 reactors, then build a Blaster and set it to only shoot drones (or you'll run out of energy). If you do this out of order or too slow, the drone will explode on your LS, but you won't die. Collect the holocube and dig out 1 tile and place a sheild. (or the water will drain out of the pond) Continue filling the tunnels with more reactors. I used the 27 Tech points to upgrade Weapon Range and Reduce Cost of Building Units.

5:33: This shows the dig out pattern I chose. notice on the left by the entrance to the cavern i have dug 2 tiles width. This should be filled with 18 Blasters if you don't want to lose many when you open the cavern.

10:52: After entering the cavern I dug up to the first emmiter and nullified it easily since the feilds keep the creeper from flowing out up there. Fill in all the empty areas with reactors. Build a Portal next to your ship and a second one down at the bottom left. Note at the top right I have set the dirt to all be dug up around the emmiters. Don't waste one shot on that lovely looking creeper cross until all 8 emmiters are dead. Keep your Launchers out of range or you'll be wasting precious energy shooting into the cross. Now is also a good time to start building Tech Domes if you haven't finished upgrading your weapon Range and Fire Rate to LV3. I also maxed out the Packet Speed.

11:56: Work your way up to the second emmiter in the cavern and destroy it. Build another portal on the far right and start planting nullifiers around the creeper cross so that each one destroys 2 emmiters. Note: the first one I set (Left side) must be placed directly after the drone comes out of the gateway and have full packet speed and over 50 extra energy or else the next drone comes out and breaks your nullifier as it's counting down. Once the emmiters are destroyed I had about 12 Launchers mopping up the creeper in the cross. Start at the top so you can get the Repulsor. Gravity will aid you. Occasionally a drone will try to use your portals so deactivate them if you see it in time. Note as well I still only have 4 Blasters set to Drone-Kill at the top protecting the LS. These will take out the top drones as well as any stray drones from the bottom. (There is a MUCH faster way to beat this level, by going up, right, and then down into the frozen AC lake but it is not neccesary to beat the level so I didn't include it here)

18:37: Over 100 Blasters all lined up. This is not a joke. The worst thing that can happen to you is even ONE drone escapes and happily runs amok through your base, destroying all your reactors, leaving you so energy-starved you can't finishe the level. Protect that bottom left entrance to prevent this. Also notice I have 9 repulsors pushing AC down into the cavern and another moving down to push left under the LS. At some point previous I also took out the 2 drone gateways in the sky. To trigger the final battle point a repulsor up so it shoots AC into the hole behind the wizard. Keep filling the sky with AC bc once the final battle starts the Dragon comes back. I moved the Launchers up and spread them out in the sky to prepare for this as well. (another trick is to use sheilds to eliminate the problem but I won't reveal that secret here) :)

Good Luck and get ready for level 2 coming soon!

Here's a video walkthrough for everyone. I had to split it into 4 parts.... I ALMOST got it done in the videos, but needed just like 5 more seconds in the last one. And I didn't feel like doing another video so you can see some launchers pick off a few subcells of creeper.
Part 1, initial survival and digging: http://screencast.com/t/SIc9TeUpI
Part 2, busting open the pit: http://screencast.com/t/4mHkgCr0 After this, I cleared that magma pit, thus dispanding the dragon. I also dug around that gateway in order to place nullifiers. I felt as though text was fine for here. Remember, don't bother attacking the gateway until after you've taken care of all 8 emitters.
Part 3, nullifying the gateway, mopping up the top, and preparing for the fight: http://screencast.com/t/kzT4VIdi After this, I prepared for the final battle... lots and lots and lots of building, no need to show it here. You can see what I did in the next movie.
Part 4, besting the beast: http://screencast.com/t/VD4Z160mTA Remember one thing... the area you're fighting the drones in is unstable. The creeper flows oddly. I nearly got this done in time. I just had a bit more creeper left when the video cut off. Sorry. Oh well, enjoy.

Also, if anyone is actually decent with videos... can you offer your services? If someone can volunteer to make videos for the next maps, I will be forever grateful. I just suck with videos... this was my 4th attempt. I got two blank screens, a corrupted file, and a series of 4 videos that are only 5 minutes long.
EDIT: apparently my Jing account has a limit to how much data people can stream from it, and these have been watched enough to cross that limit. :/

if you're actually reading the storyline, you're in for a treat when I finally get ATF2 done. :D It's almost there, it's just... procrastination. You know. lol.

Just recorded myself playing this map. Skipped the dialog to keep it short.

Amazing! Thanks a ton! Do you think you could do this for the other maps in this series, too? Some people may have problems with ATF2.

If I can complete the map, there is a good chance I will.

Awesome! I fail at video making. lol. I can help you through ATF2 if need be so you can get a video up. (don't worry, it's not terrible. I'm trying to not go overboard on difficulty with this series)
