This topic is for discussion of map #8165: RoadTrip 2: The Spiral

Author: WithersChat
Size: 256x256

Desc:
A new map, a new blue path, a new pod to escort, no nullifiers (but enemies stop working if you power them) and a new enemy turret. Enemy units drop when the pod gets to angles of its path, so get ready. And get prepared for the end event. This map is a little longer than average... #CRPL #NoTerps #SaveOften #Really #EspeciallyBeforeYouSendThePodAtEachCorner #YouMightLoseAtAnyTime #ButNotIfYouAreCareful

Your description is borrowed from Sorrontis, but the difficulty ... is not.

Over-warned and under-delivered, and it leaves an unsatisfying feeling.

256x256 is usually a warning sign, not a positive, so you're aware.
A narrative is a lightly-marked path to another reality.

not really, some of the best maps are max size.

blanket statements like that don't help much anyway.

WithersChat:  this map clearly has a lot of effort in it, cheers for that.  personally i dont like maps that don't allow terping very much, but for me the having to follow the mappers plan or you cannot win is a big turn off.

but other people enjoy that sort of thing, so make the maps you want to make dude!  8)

This was not a very interesting map, Overall it was nothing more then put in 4x mode and run around the spiral, then after you have put in all that time and effort thinking that you don't need beams the map goes to mission failure because you don't have beams to stop spores that randomly show up with no warning. Overall a 1.

Tons of work put into this and I appreciate it.
I'm about half way through and just kind of pounding away and moving as fast as I can.
For a map this big and this long, I tend to save where I am and come back and chip away from time to time. I do want to see the end of it.
Anyone who puts this much effort into creating something for all the rest of us deserves a solid 10/10.
Thanks,

Was pretty nice, the "power to stop emitter" is interesting though a bit easy :)

Thoughts;
- At the end, 10 packets per second is very trivial, perhaps something like "charge up 8 (or more) launch assist towers around the pad" and each takes 30 packets per second - the player can decide how many to connect at once.
- Map size,  lots of space = lots of power, getting +500 energy halfway through the map isn't very hard, but there's not much to spend that much power on with limited air/berta.
- Some lag, see screenshot
- At the start, managing 3 bases is a bit of a pain - because they are so far apart it takes some time to move the camera

There are some ingame warnings messages that spores will come from "the inactive ones", though i didn't see them glow red, probably missed that part. ~100 beams turned out to be massive overkill.

Screenshot about 2/3rd through:

i liked the map, the hook that there is a nasty surprise at the end did kept me keep playing else i would have abandoned it long before .
I didnt like the long slogging time it took to clear, as i like fast play during mid or endgame. Also, the surprise was not much as i prepared toomuch by saving and overbuilding. overall, 7/10.

«spores that randomly show up with no warning.»
Did you actually read the artifact conversations?
They were actually warnings.

But I won't forget these comments and try to make better maps next time.
To be honest, I was skeptical about the map, and I knew it might be boring.

One of the best first maps ever.
There is a thread here on CW for the map makers who help each other vet the maps before you load it.
Get in there and get some thoughts from like-minded folks and have some fun.
I have a hunch I'll be burning lots of hours on your maps.
Thanks,

In all fairness, No I didn't read the artifact convos, In my experience they tend to be just silly comments with no real value, Unfortunately in this case it seems that was not the case. so it is on me for not reading them. It still doesn't change my overall feeling about the map. I still stand by my low rating, I do appreciate the effort and hope you keep making more.

Cheers

Really cool idea and fun map!

If I can add a suggestion, I would love if there was something slowly chasing the thing you need to move to the end, so that you were under time pressure.  Really ramps up the challenge.n
