Title: Creeper World 2 Editor - Manual
Post by: archangel8 on February 03, 2012, 05:31:45 PM
Hey everyone,

This is my first threat in here so my name is Tim for those out there that don't know me.

Also for those out there that love details then the document below is something you will want to have.

3 months ago I finally got my hands on the second addition of Creeper World and I was totally blown away by how much more advanced the game had become. Virgil, the game's creator, really went all out on this game. During the month of November I started looking at creating my own maps. Looking at the CW 2 Editor I realized there was a ton more features. It was at that moment I realized I was going to need help on understanding many of the new features. Well, this time around Virgil didn't include any help file for the editor so I hit this forum and found a thread done by Ebon Heart called, "Making CW 2 Maps for Dummies". This is a very awesome thread that helps give a person a good look at many of the features found within the CW 2 Editor.

But I am someone that loves details. I am a person that will take something apart right down to the very last screw just to see how it works. So as I read Ebon's thread I noticed that some of the features of the editor were not covered. So I started doing up a manual for myself that would cover every single detail right down the those little features that some may not even think would be relevant. I did use inspiration from Ebon's thread to help get me started. Near the end of January I finally came close to finishing my personal manual. With everything that I covered I wanted to make sure that what I explained to myself was correct in what that feature actually did. So I got in contact with Virgil and asked if he would look over my work. Well, he said he would be honored. So I emailed a copy of my work to Virgil and after he looked it over he said he was actually very impressed by the detail of my work. Of course I did make a few mistakes on explaining some things. But with guidance from Virgil I made the changes needed to make my manual complete and correct.

I also asked Virgil what his thoughts would be about me sharing my manual with every other Creeper world fan out there. Believe it or not I never once had any intentions to ever share this manual with no one other then me. He felt I should indeed look at sharing my work with all the other fans. So before I share my work with the world I just would like to give some special thanks to Virgil, Ebon Heart, and J.

Ebon gave me something to start with while J, wrote an awesome thread called, "Advanced field/gravity guide". That thread helped explain how fields are created. I liked J's thread so much I included a link to the thread in my manual. It's well worth looking at.

So below is a zip file that contains a PDF file of the manual. I am supplying the manual this way so that fans don't have to be online in order to view this manual. So enjoy and lets all have fun creating awesome maps that we all can play for years to come. Thanks everyone and God bless. :)

PS: feel free to leave any comments and or suggestions. Both good and bad are welcome. I am prepared for the worst but hoping for the best. ;D Haha!

Does a mod want to sticky this? I think this could be very helpful... but it's going to die here soon, and be of no use to anyone.

you do say that the gateways can destroy solid terrain but you don't describe how to do that, at least with my short lookover. Just saying

Your right. I did miss that. Sorry!

To do it here is what you do.

Step 1: place a "Enemy Dig Site" over "Normal Terrain" or "Decayable Terrain".

Step 2: Place solid terrain over the "Enemy Dig Site".

Your Solid Terrain will now have a blue X in it and now can be destroyed by a Gateway.

Hope that helps. :)

Oh and sorry it took me so long to reply. I was really badly sick and laid up in the hospital for over a month. I just started getting better and got back home just last week.

I am better now then how I was just two weeks ago. I got a really bad infection that just about killed me. I was really sick. I was on heavy anti-biotic for a good two weeks and then my body had to do the rest for the next two weeks. In total I was in the hospital for just about 4 weeks. Thanks to God above I pulled through. If I hadn't I wouldn't be typing this. Haha!

Sadly I wasn't the only person that got this bad infection. There were quite a few people in the hospital that had the same symptoms as me. I know there were some seniors that caught the infection and from what I have been told one person may have passed away from this. Anyways, I am just blessed to still be alive. :)

I'm glad your here. Was it a staph infection? (The only reason I ask I'd I'm doing a Sceince project on a super staph bug)

To keep on topic: I haven't said it, but this is an amazing guide. No offense to Ebon.

I really wouldn't have even seen that as a possible offense to me if you hadn't said, "no offense to Ebon."

I am not sure what hit this area. It started out like a simple sinus cold but it got worse to where I was blowing out pure yellow stuff and then the darn thing went to my lungs. On top of that I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I ached everywhere. I am just glad I got better.

I would like to think that in the process of making as many maps as I have that I have learned a thing or two. I am currently trying to make a map called Cubic Deception which involves the placing of multiple units on top of each other. I have played a few maps that had two things on top of each other, but I quickly realized that there does not seem to be a limit to the number of units you can put on top of each other. If there is a limit, please let me know, but I got up to 13 in this map with no issues. The problem that I am currently running into is that I cannot get all of my gateways to consistently create a constant stream of drones. When I have built maps before, I set each gateway to create only one schedule with a Rpt value of 0 and it has always put out a constant stream of drones at the specified interval indefinitely.
Quoting your guide (Chapter 3, pages 8-10)
"Here you can set how many times the game will loop through a wave before moving on to the next wave if there is more then one wave set in the schedule list. The default is set to 0. If there is more then one wave present and all have a setting of 0 then each wave will be done only once in session. This value can be increased or decreased by clicking on the number and then adding in a new number in the highlighted text box."
I have tried 0, and I have tried very large numbers like 10,000, but regardless of what I put, I cannot get any kind of consistency with this map. Is there some kind of limit on the number of Gateways that can properly function on the same map? This map has 36 of them, each with a different drone schedule.
Does anyone have any ideas?
PS- I would love to add some of my knowledge about unit stacking to this guide if you are interested! Also, not trying to jack your post here, I was just doing research to try and find info about this issue, and stumbled across this. Hope you don't mind!
Thanks,
albrittbrat

Just tried to read the guide myself. Result: complications with opening it. Is it not compatible with Microsoft word 2010? What now?

It is a word 2003 document, so you should be able to open it with word 2010 (I have word 2010 and I can open it perfectly fine). Didn't you accidently try to open the .rar file with word?

Now I see ::), I completely forgot to say thanks to archangel8 for creating this guide and linking my guide in it ;D

Post 1111!

Accidentaly?! It gave me no other option when I clicked on the link on the first post. And it did say rar. At first it said to either find or save as a kind of file that was not showing up like it should have. Having 2010 myself, I would like to know what to do now.

Title: Updated: Creeper World 2 Editor - Manual Second Edition
Post by: archangel8 on March 25, 2013, 05:21:00 PM
Hey Everyone,

Long time no talk. I have some awesome news. My manual for the editor has been majorly updated thanks in part to a fellow member in here doing some visual work on the manual.

Before I go any further I need to gave a major thanks to fm4fan (A.K.A.: Peter) for adding in several screen shots into my manual for all of you to use. The screen shots add a visual reference to the many features used in the editor. So now you need not have to wander what feature I am talking about in the manual. So I hope you all enjoy the new updated version of the manual and I also included both a .rar file and a .zip file for anyone out there that may not have a RAR file extractor program. Also in both files I included both a Word document and a PDF file. Peter updated the manual in both formats for us all. so again, enjoy the new updated versions and feel free to leave any comments.

Oh and you'll find the new versions in my first thread in here. they have been added as new attachments.

Tim,
archangel8
