Definitely the toughest map I have yet completed. You really need to know this map like the back of your hand.

Nice to see you went for this tough challenge anyway!

This is indeed a map that will require a few attempts, but I think the rather short playing time allows for that.

Spoiler
A couple of hints can be found in the old comments (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/mapcomments.php?old=1&id=1416).

My problem, I realized was that I was building to many connectors before
going over the next hurdle. :P To the end you want to move as fast as possible.

Yeah, you'll lose any collectors after about 2 minutes anyway, so build as few of them as possible. Only the collectors at the top of the hurdles will be safe.

Nope, this map is a real puzzle, so I won't give more clues than I've already given.

Spoiler
Have you read the hints in the old comments (http://knucklecracker.com/creeperworld/mapcomments.php?old=1&id=1416)?

How the hell did someone survive that long? Would love to know that!

How is that possible!!!!!!! ??? :o I would like to know too. If I remember correctly, all the top parts in front of each hurdle, by the end get filled with Creeper. And you only get a set number of blasters. Maybe flying the city? I might have to look at this map again. I do not know what is more impressive, beating this map in eight minutes, or eighteen. :D

Exactly! Even when you keep Odin City flying you won't ever be able to keep all totems connected. I figure Talbot used his last blaster to cap the 2 emitters of the last section and managed to fight his way up with only two of them. Or even more likely: he actually finished and used 2 blasters to cap the emitters at the bottom of the last section and the last one stayed on top of the hurdle. I should try myself to see if that would work....

Hmm... only 7 scores for 357 downloads as of today. Got to be one of the toughest maps out there.
Lost count of the number of times I had it in the bag, only to be beaten at the finish line by Mr. Creeper. Seems like 9 min is the time before which you must activate the totems, although Talbot seems to have proven otherwise. Finishing with his time is probably harder than finishing  <9min as pointed out by others :P.

Awesome map - well thought out design - 5/5.  :)

Yeah, I'm still puzzled by that. Unfortunately Talbot doesn't seem to have a forum account and is maybe not even reading the comments. :(

Is there a way to connect the four blasters which are located on the map's corners ?

I just miss 1 or 2 blaster to complete this map... I think that I see how to complete this but the 4 blasters I can have are just not enough :(

But great map ! All of yours by the way.

lol. . .

I'm having a terrible time with this one KEES, its keeping me up at
night because I can't beat it.  :-[

I spent about 5 hours the other day trying everything I could
think of to beat it (and yes I have already read all of your hints
on the new comment and old comment systems).

So. . . Could you give me another hint?  ::)

First tell me what you do....

How do you take the hurdles?
Title: Re: Custom Map: Nice Job 2: The Athlete
Post by: Colin on November 12, 2010, 03:56:57 AM
I usually just power up the blasters, wait a bit then move them in and get the artifact. I then proceed with my blasters+OC over the hurdle. I then use a blaster to bridge over the crazonium wall to build a collector to grab the SAM. I pretty much do that until I reach the end, that is when I get stuck. I've tried building relays to connect the rest of the totems, but I can never get the last one because I only have 4 blasters, and I can't figure out how to get the corner blasters. Sometimes I try flying OC after I hit the deadline but I usually don't last long. I have also tried to fly my SAMs over the crazonium walls, but they can't reach the lowest totem.

So did I loose the point of the map or, am I on the right track ???

First of all: bridging is never required for any of my maps.

Spoiler
You really do need the 4 blasters in the corners, see here (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=1448.msg25897#msg25897).

Well done, it's a tough map and I know you've spent quite some time on it. :)

That also goes for Kapoios, although he apparently had less problems with it. Great time! 8)

I will have to find some time in the near future to replay it using the packet filters and all bridging techniques that I can think of to beat his time.

I consider this my second pwned map, partially due to the new packet filter feature. Oh well, I was very enthusiastic about it when it was suggested a few months ago, so I shouldn't complain. (But it hurts! :'()

This was way tougher than advertised.  Definitely expert! But so much fun figuring it out!

Thanks! :) Puzzle maps are my favorite ones, but only a small audience is able to really appreciate (and beat) them. If you're into another one, I can recommend The Busted Bunker (http://knucklecracker.com/forums/index.php?topic=5425).
