Data on effectiveness of modules

I would love it if Virgil would shed some light on all this. I'm sure he has an algorithm somewhere he used to determine balance.  8)

Since I couldn't find the answers anywhere: Engines

v ∝ E/n

v = ship speed going forward
E = number of engines
n = number of hull tiles placed


"n" is the number used to calculate CM cost, which is not affected by:
  • Armor
  • Modules
  • Tile shape
Unfortunately, there is no way to see "n" directly in the ship editor -- you would need to either count directly in the editor, or reverse-engineer the CM cost formula.

EDIT: Unless your hull consists entirely of unarmored square tiles.
