CW3 crash on launch

Did a system update yesterday, now the game won't start. There were several hundred packages updated, not the foggiest which one(s) might cause this.

EDIT: seems something was just in a bad state, a restart fixed it and now I feel like a derp

Game version: Linux, tried 2.08 and 2.12 both 32 and 64 bit
Computer: Arch Linux desktop, kernel version 4.9.11-1
CPU: AMD FX 4300
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 750
RAM: 8 GB
