The gag order on alpha/beta testers is no more. So if you would like to see a video or screenshot of anything from any tester, preview user, or me. This is a place to request and reply.... at least until the general release.
I'll start with a screenshot of an Inception mission contribution by planetfall. Has some nice PRPL controlled units...

All aboard the hype train! 8)
Request:
Could someone please share some insight into ship editor and ship costs?
Like an empty hull, it with some weapons and it full fitted with expensive gear maybe..?
Would be excited to see what Teknotiss comes up with for this game. I loved his maps in CW3 with the giant slog through hundreds of layers of creeper. :)
so... Screenshots of some of his custom maps (if he has any) ? :D
Here is an old screenshot from September last year (2015) of some ships on a teknotiss map
If I remember, they took about 15 minutes to build out! :)

I'm afraid those are too amazing.
I'll be shutting down now.

Is it possible to have more than 1 HQ ship?
Edit: Also, how big can you make a map? What are the max width and length?

999x999.
I can't fit the entire width or height on my monitor, so let me demonstrate...
Here is a 999x999 map with one of each of the built-in ships stuck in the bottom right corner. That big rectangle ship shows the largest size allowed for a ship.
The bottom left ship with 3 MK7's is called Varro. Keep that ship in mind...
Here's that map zoomed out all the way...
Now 999 is so wide that there isn't a way for me to directly show those ships while the left edge of the map is visible. But the editor panel doesn't quite reach the edge of the game window, and if you magnify the screenshot, you will see a one-pixel-wide strip that's a different color from the surrounding space, with nothing above it.
That's the leftmost MK7 on Varro.

Wow, that is a big map. Lots of opportunities with maps that large! Thanks for sharing!
Edit: I put the quote in a spoiler so there can be less wasted space. :)
The limit is actually 500x500. I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that's a bug that was fixed about 2 minutes ago... after I read these messages earlier today. I wasn't enforcing the restriction on the map creation page. It was limited to 3 characters, not 500 like it should be.
That said, 500x500 is already too large for most maps. It's a large area and I don't think I've ever even played on a map that large.

Aw man. Can't you just add a warning that maps larger than 500x500 aren't included in the specifications listed on Steam? (AKA they'll require a better machine) lol
A bad plan for exchange maps. If it's available, it will be used, meaning serious lag issues for some. Such a split is bad. Better to have a smaller cap that almost everyone can run, and let this induce creativity within that framework.
Imagine CW3 on a 1000x1000 map. It doesn't really gain much in enjoyability over a 250x250, which is within the limit.
500x500 looks like plenty of potential. And if it isn't, it can be changed when the other way has been tried. It will be easy to adjust the cap upward, hard to change it downward.
My (somewhat specialised) questions:
Will PRPL have the capacity for script-global or map-global variables? Multi-Core scripting in CRPL often needed the same value or list, and recalculation is inefficient. List passing for references works, but is a clumsy workaround. Also, is there an option in-editor to display UIDs (or the new equivalent)?

Hm, fair points. I do wish that perhaps there could be some way that only 500x500 and below maps could be
uploaded, but up to 999x999 maps could be created. However, I suspect that may be getting a bit too complicated to do, so I'll just let V decide what he wants to do.
I have no idea what happening in these images, I am excited to try though, lol.
the 500x500 limit is also because of various technical issues V has had - I remember a post about that a while ago in alpha. Something to do with geometry and stuff. Regardless, 500x500 is huge in comparison to everything else. It's basically a slog fest if not designed well.
Well, I have started posting up my Playthrough of the beta preview on YouTube. If you are interested take a look!
Here is a link to my playlist so you can see them as they come, and subscribe so you can be informed when a new video is posted.

I'm not the best ever, but I give my best, and like Virgil says, it's harder when you are trying to talk while playing!
I'm going to play through the Story missions, but I will also try to answer any questions people have on video. If you have something you want to see...ask me and I'll try to get a video up about it!
As for story, that's the last thing I wanna see on youtubes, I'm gonna enjoy it more playing it myself. What I would like to watch is just some simulacrum maps - just raw gameplay.
Well I'm gonna do that too! So, hang in there, I'll post when I have some less spoilery videos. :)
Nice... I've watched the 4 story episodes you have up so far. You're funny (in a youtube good way)... that line about "little thing I learned in Nam", then ramming your destroyer forward was pretty funny.
Thanks for watching Virgil! I'm glad you liked it. Going to do all the Inception and Exchange missions too, in a new playlist so people can avoid the story spoilers if they wish. I'm not sure I'll do all of the story yet. I may stop with what I've done today (there is another video up too, a 5th one now) and move over to the other missions tomorrow.
The difficulty in the story missions starts to increase after the last mission your played (your 5th episode which is mission 6 in the story). Story mission 8 is the first that some people have trouble with (and one of the reasons that's what I played for the blog video I posted today). But many/most of the exchange missions probably fall on the upper half of mission difficulties (at or greater than story mission 8 difficulty).
For the simulacrum, you may have to play around a bit to get one that matches the difficulty level you want for a video. You can make trivial, monstrous, or absurd missions with that thing. There are a few sim missions that are posted to the exchange (top left in the filters you can look for only sim, only custom, or both types of missions).
Anyway, just a heads up that jumping into the sim and exchange will probably knock things up a few levels in terms of difficulty... so be prepared for that.
It funny, watching your video Virgiwl, I did not feel it was hard, but I also fall under the category for creeper world, where Farbor, was not bad also, lol. It is exciting to see how the community may also make it hard, It some of my fav custom maps atm, cause of it. Though I watch a little of your video too, ShadeOfRed, mostly speed up and skipping slightly, to not really spoil, just to get an idea of the start, and I agree, it was fun to watch. Once I do get a chance to play, I will have to revisit, and see how we might do the missions, differently.

That's in the game, and it seems to be a linux-only problem. Even the windows version running under wine doesn't do that. I opt to play with the lines, because most text doesn't work on the windows version (I'm probably missing a font or something stupid like that.)
5:48 eh? Nice...
That might be hard to beat.
Yes, those lines are an opengl thing on linux. It happens depending on the specific zoom level and the position of the map. It's an integer rounding texture kind of thing. What it really is, is a giant pain. It's on my list to address for linux. It requires a healthy amount of testing on linux to repro and to fix the problem without making a new one, so I've punted on it for now. I hope to get to it soon...

Okay...so I've got a few videos now coming out for you guys who DON'T want story missions. I can't and won't promise level of play like what planetfall did, but you can watch and see what you think would be a better way of doing it! :P

Just a few notes after watching you play planetfalls Upkeep map:
- That sound that particles make when they expire, I'm either going to remove or subdue it.
- You can multi select omnis with the ctrl key. The shift key lets you place waypoints when moving omnis.
- I watched your video on an apple tv so the whole family could watch on the big screen. We were taking bets on how high your amp gem count would get before you used them :) Good fun... and good to watch.

Hey guys,
Just wanted to post my gameplay of a Simulacrum mission. Take a look at the tech tree and the info on each of them and also take a look at a custom ship in action. This is my first LP, i'm a rookie. If anyone wants to see some specific stuff, message me and I'll try to accommodate. Thanks again Virgil, I absolutely love this game.

Here are a few pix of planetfall's awesome map 'Warp never changes', which you'll find in the inception sector.
It's a big, brutal map, the enemy gets a foothold early and is tricky to dislodge - and what ships and Omnis are available to you are limited. And if that's not enough, planetfall has created some awesome weapons and artifacts (mostly for the benefit of the enemy!) with PRPL. I shudder to think what the community will come up with in the coming months....
I currently have the best time on this map ( ;)) but it took me two days, literally forty saves and probably a hundred restarts from various points.
I tried to finesse it, but in the end (once I finally had the resources), I simply assembled an awesome fleet formation and went head on at it.
Having said that, proper use of the Omnis was vital - it really was as much a 'land' war as a space battle.
These pix may give you an insight as to what is possible - fleet formations, giving covering fire and protection to auxiliary ships.
This particular one is a favorite, though the actual composition changes depending what ships are actually available.
The last pic shows the awesome 'move as one' command Virgil implemented especially for these tight fleet maneuvering situations.

'Tis why I switched to RTS games more like Starcraft 2 or Planetary Annihilation, where the unit max is absolutely giant.

I haven't watched all of your non-story mission episodes yet, but could you try to find one by a guy named Teknotiss? His maps in CW3 were awesome, and I'd love to see a play-through of what he has in PF.

I believe Cave is referring to that he hasn't made any custom maps; that map is a simulacrum map that he uploaded to the exchange (or whatever it's called in PF lol), I believe.

But Ninja is right.
I can use the sim to generate awesome maps (as can anyone), but custom maps benefit from the touch of an artist...
If you want to try one of my maps, try 'Needs Tweeking' - it's not too hard and requires a couple of different strategies which might make a good video.

The uber-cool thing about how amp gems are implemented in PF is that you haven't 'spent' them as such - if you want you can 'release' them and use them elsewhere.
I've found, for example, that I need just a little bit of rock burning done, so when it's done, I reallocate the gem where it's most useful.
Having said that, I'm an upgrade junky - I rarely use the gems to ramp up an individual ship's performance.
Still learning!

I know. But my brain doesn't grog that yet. :) I've only been playing a few days. ;)
Grog.
Definitely grog!
;)
grog
noun
spirits (originally rum) mixed with water.

grok
verb: grok; 3rd person present: groks; past tense: grokked; past participle: grokked; gerund or present participle: grokking

Nope. I don't grog it. :) Or maybe that's why I don't get it...because I've drank to much grog in my life? Dunno. ;D
Here are some Screenshots of what happens when you have too much time on your hands...
The most interesting feature so far is the ship editor. You can really make some crazy ships with it! :)
I wanna call that one ship a squeegee! :P

I was going to call it the Wii light bar. :)
So, I need to go to sleep for the night, otherwise what I'll do will just be silly (https://youtu.be/_ml46AiqG4k)...
I call it, the Triple Lather, hehe. Just a little test at making a custom ship.

Isn't it a problem having the lathes at the back? How about replacing the command module with the middle lathe?

lol, I really don't know. Still learning how ship work, and the use of the items. though testing it, 3 lathe on one item do take care of things quickly it seem, heh.

Yeah it would eat that gem or emitter or whatever fairly quickly. Maybe it's better they are on the back to make it more glass cannon-y so that it is a little balanced.
It does do 3 Lathes work for the cost of only one ship. ;)
Yeah, I can't imagine how many design Virgil must have gone through for the normal ships to make them balance and such.
Also I see what you mean looking at the normal Lathe, if attack, it might blow up pretty quickly due to frontal fire? when asking why in back.
Okie Dokie. I have some more videos up on my channel, one is currently rendering to be uploaded and two are uploading. I hope you enjoy!
And again, the link to the playlist in case you missed any, these are the non story related missions.

Ah, much different than my first attempt at making a custom ship that serves a function. As inspired by you, it is a lathe, but of a slightly differing variety.

I didn't calculate it exactly, but in-game it took about 20 minutes for this monstrosity to even
start to build.
Turns out that lasers are pretty strong...

Ninja, 2363 seconds is just under 40 minutes, lol. I wonder how quicker it gets with the build speed up, lol.
Also you forgot a shield on there to make it stronger too, lol.

Never noticed that.
I chuckle a bit every time I notice that.
Self referencing PF meta humour.
The best kind!
Okie dokes. Uploaded a non story mission and there will be three story missions going up as well. Check them out if you would like. This weekend will be busy for me so nothing coming out then. I usually try to take weekends off as well.

Hey guys, thought I should probably say hi here :)
I'm currently doing some videos of Particle Fleet, which you may have seen tweeted by @knucracker on twitter:
Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLKEhJk4SJa5zVl0W-noRSFXIjrCSH1BDm
First episode - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7oSL52uWa8
I realise a lot of you are probably much better at the game than me, so hopefully it's not too cringey. If there's any particular thing you want me to do in videos (like non-story missions or whatever) just let me know!
Ready to make alot of maps before the release version lol.
This is how you win a map on particle fleet...
The Star Destroyer ship at the top is not made by me, i just copied most of the parts on the star destroyer V has made. :P

And THAT, right there, is why Virgil created the 'E' key - so you can shift the whole darn lot of them in perfect unison.
Imagine having to move them all manually!
For anyone interested, I'll drop my particle fleet playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBB2jGJ_XOemXNT4YBhLsDG_ZcrVghrHB) here. No guarantees of if/when it'll be updated, though...
Second video about how I create a customer ship and proceeded to fail and die trying to build that ship in a simulacrum mission.....
Customer ship (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhuUHrFFLxM)
How powerful can a wolf get? The ship turned from blue to white... Possibly the hardest emitter in pf can be crushed by a couple of wolves. I set them not to die. Extraordinary. Still possible.
https://youtu.be/olfXXqZGf0o
I cut off the video early, sry about that.
Some (very poorly edited) attempts at aggression in a simulacrum mission. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esI-xcNfqeQ) The HQ does a lot of heavy lifting- it leads to some interesting dynamics here and elsewhere. (I'll probably upload a cleaner version later.)
Well, I'm back as I no longer feel like death warmed over. 3 new videos up from maps on the Exchange and the last video is undergoing YouTube Processing as I type this. Hope you enjoy!
Here is the Playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-nwvADog8DK3qWYnJ9Xjr5qtStQrnoWj) again!
Is it bad that I'm watching these videos of you guys doing story missions before I have a chance to buy the game?
Well the good thing is that you will definately run the mission different than everyone else but you get an idea of the mission. I can watch all the gameplay in the world but things won't sink in untill i'm playing it myself.

What does everyone use for video capture? I used Bandicam once, and now it doesn't work with PF anymore.
I use a windows 10 built-in recorder. While in game, press win+g and the gamebar opens, there are settings and stuff. It is really good.

I use OBS, set it to game capture not window capture. Works great and is free.
For some things though I need to use DXTORY. It works best on games that use a lot of processing power and more importantly RAM...they designed it to somehow scrape the information off that is going to the monitor and it uses very little processing power or RAM. It's a bit harder to set up though and does split your video and audio up into separate pieces. This isn't a problem really, but it sometimes means you need different rendering software depending on what you use.
I use...wierdly enough, Wondershare Video Editor most of the time for when I use OBS. It's stable and works well...
However if I have to use DXTORY I have to dust off my old Vegas Pro 13 skills and pull it out. Vegas Pro is terribly unreliable, and is as likely to crash half way through rendering as finish...so...
Okay everyone...Two more videos up for you to watch.
There are tons of good maps on there...and in the second video I made a map, or at least started to make it...it isn't finished yet as I am still learning the tips and tricks and such.
Again the Playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-nwvADog8DK3qWYnJ9Xjr5qtStQrnoWj) is here!
Enjoy...that map I'm making, I'm still working on. I'll probably get it so I am happy and then let you know when it is done...it really isn't anything special.
That map is up! Sorry got pulled away for a bit. Enjoy it!
I like OBS (Studio as it has some nice features built in that I like, the main one is stream at one res, record at another, my upload speed is a potato... Anyway, I think for just capturing video from the game without other fancy stuff, classic can be used just as well)
I once used Fraps, but for the times I would have used that (fullscreen games mainly, OBS requires too much setup to get that working), I actually use nVidia's ShadowPlay. Requires the right kind of hardware (oh hey, OBS can use that hardware as well, so my CPU is not hit too hard when both streaming and recording)

Then if I watch someone's video of a story map, then I'll just do it his way, and maybe even have it up at the same time to help me if I get stuck.
R.I.P XD
Edit: I can also safely say that this will not be in any of my maps. (I hope)

G....
Looking at that, I think three things:
1. Running on reasonable hardware.
2. Ship spawner with limit increased?
3. Different colours for friendly/opposing missiles might be nice.
I also think a fourth:
4. We're going to need a bigger gun...
Having fun with custom ships. Some of them don't even need energy resupply due to their reactors.
Reactors are expensive to add, often, but can pay for themselves on many maps, especially those with tight energy constraints.
Maps can be played, if you are so inclined, with a custom fleet, so building a powerhouse ship on an energy-deficit map can be a good way to beat it, if the ship is completed in time.
Quote from: GoodMorning on September 24, 2016, 09:59:50 AM
If the ship is completed in time.
True. Those big ones took around 2100 seconds only to build the command module. But they do require 0 energy to fully operate.
Challenge: A map which contains as a standard fleet no energy mines, but one small pre-built ship, equipped with reactor and port modules. Progressive scaling-up.
is that... an enemy HQ I see, Qwerty? O_o' Does it teleport around when killed and try to backdoor your stuff? Someone get planetfall on that. xD

I was experimenting on that... Nothing special :( Neither enemy production at 0 nor warp out and in again.
Well, tomorrow should be release day I believe. So...I have made another two videos for you to watch, it's a long one so I split it in two to make it maybe easier to watch. Enjoy!
Again the playlist (https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id=M8CmFuusynQ) is here. :)
I'll start. Post your vids here as long as there's no other topic for it. :D If I didn't see one that already existed, give me a link to it and I'll post there too.
Here. (Opens a Youtube video page) With commentary. We'll play the entire story hopefully, eventually. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6lfHzM-5ME)
We're long time fans of Creeper World III and we just now found this corner of the Internet. Hello everyone! I'll be around here from now on. :)
We were also 7th on the high scores of the 1st level of PFE for a while, not sure if we still are though.
Also just now saw the main vid topic, posted there instead, please remove this! I'm so new here lol

Hey guys, so I've finished playing the Story (gonna finish inception missions soon, then move onto some exchange maps!).
I put all the story mission videos into a playlist here incase you're interested:

So I am still making Particle Fleet videos and still enjoying it!
If you have a series of maps, or a particular map you would like me to do, send me a message on here and I'll add it to my list!
Thanks to everyone for watching!
