I know how to get access to the scripts (just copy the CW3 file into a custom map and rename/replace your save.cw3 file in there), but how do you get access to the custom images?

I believe you must, in the editor, press ~~"Ctrl+I" or "Shift+I"~~ just "I" ... It'll create a image folder within the map folder.
