WooHoo!

Trying out the 64-bit version.  I don't expect them but is there anywhere special to report issues?

Update: smooth download and install - program came right up

Not sleeping tonight  ;D

Are you sure both your hardware and software are 64-bit? I have 64-bit hardware with 32-bit windows so 64 bit won't work for me.

Right here for now...

Enjoying the demo! Was wondering if anyone else was having trouble (no issue) adjusting to the new scroll function? I am SO used to scrolling up & down the maps in CW2 that I keep scrolling in CW3 and then losing where I want to be. Gonna take some getting used to. But then, progress always does, yes?

Adjust the keys and disable the scroll wheel if you prefer. Check the settings.

The word is launch - lunch is what we eat. You had me read and think for quite a while before I figured out what you were saying.

Can you please post your system specifications?

If you want to try the 64-bit application again, let me know and I'll give you advice on how to collect some diagnostic information that may help us in determining the reason for the crash.

Fantastic so far.  Can't wait to give you my money :P

Only issue I've found: Wording in the intro is awkward - 50 thousand.  Should be either 50,000 or fifty thousand (latter matches the convention used elsewhere in the intro)

64-bit client on 64-bit Win 7.  Working great.

Hi guys.
Newly signed up but not new to this forum. I've usually just been lurking around and viewing the (usually) weekly blog posts. :P
Congratulations to virgil on all the work he's put into CW3. It's been long but I'm sure all that effort he's put in will be well worth it for both him and us. :)

Anyway, aside from that, went to download the demo. Download was smooth, installation was smooth but upon launching, I got this error:
Quote"Unable to load mono library from "C:/Program Files/KnuckleCracker/Creeper World 3 DEMO/CW3_Data/Mono/mono.dll" (error = 126)."

I downloaded the Win64 version.
I am running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version.

Good to see everyone is excited about the release of the Creeper World 3 demo.

If it's working for you, you're probably too busy playing to be checking here!

If you're having technical issues, never fear - right now it's the middle of the night at Knuckle Cracker HQ, but come the dawn a team of highly trained Code Ninjas will spring in to action and resolve whatever it is that ails you/your system.

For linux users: Doesn't run in wine it seems

64 Bit version won't launch at all (insta crashes, crash highly suggests its a winapi function thats not avaible in wine)
32 Bit version freezes on something that looks like a license agreement dialog (without any text though. neither the buttons nor the text window)

Trying in a vm now. Lets hope the performance is good enough.
EDIT: Downloading it in the VM right now - will tell you results ofc - Crashed, should i zip up crash report? small description:

Enjoying the demo! Was wondering if anyone else was having trouble (no issue) adjusting to the new scroll function? I am SO used to scrolling up & down the maps in CW2 that I keep scrolling in CW3 and then losing where I want to be. Gonna take some getting used to. But then, progress always does, yes?

Ha!

I just did this in reverse - I've been beta testing CW3 for nearly a year, but today I played a few games of CW2 and I found myself struggling with the wheel-scroll!

It doesn't take long to adjust, and the re-definable keys are a real boon.

I may be speaking out of school here, but I don't believe Linux is yet supported - some Unity glitch that needs to be resolved.

4h am it's not middle of the night ^^

i completed the demo 3 times :/ need more !!!!! :)

Thanks to all for their feedback and words of encouragement.  Apologies for not responding to each message individually.

Now, if you are running the 64bit version and getting a problem with the mono.dll, try downloading this and installing it.
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632

Once installed, try the 64 bit CW3 build again.

I noticed that the sprayer seem to only hold 50 units of AC, but states it holds 100 units. Possible bug? 64-bit Windows if it matters. (First game I played that states up front about 64-bit support)

Otherwise, just waiting for release...

The Sprayer can collect left-over AC from the terrain and hold it as an internal reserve. Check the options on the unit details. It is also possible to have the sprayer return excess AC to the CN.

Only issue I've found: Wording in the intro is awkward - 50 thousand.  Should be either 50,000 or fifty thousand (latter matches the convention used elsewhere in the intro)

I kinda misread the 5 not as thousand or fifty thousand... but as 5 billion. like my sister all over again xD

I literally thought it was 5 billion into the future. really threw me off, but knowing it's less time only barely changes things for me.

Glad everyone's enjoying it just as much as I do! ;D

Great demo! I did notice one minor thing, that I thought I'd mention.

When selecting a planet, if you hit the "Online Scores" button, the scroll wheel on the mouse will both scroll the high score list AND simultaneously change the scale of the planetary system in the background behind the list. Hard to notice while scrolling down, because it was zoomed out to begin with, but then when I scrolled back up the system expanded to maximum size. Not really that big of a deal, but just thought I'd throw it out there in case nobody had already reported that.

It's just a taste.

Virgil's got to ease you in to it gently.

If you had access to the whole thing, all at once, it'd blow your mind.

I've been beta testing for nearly a year now and I'm still overwhelmed by the awesomeness of CW3 as a whole...

*****Possible Spoiler*****
Spoiler
Lia... Aliana? I noticed how Lia had to "update" when Aliana was mentioned. Methinks the two are related. I'm sure I'm not the only one who picked up on that. I LOVE that this game includes a storyline. For me, it makes it even better.

:P

I totally believe that. Though, I agree. The only mission which really makes me play and think myself is the very last mission. Kinda sad. The ones before are a bit too tutorial-ish. Also with a second weapon type it actually got way more interesting. Maybe one more star system wouldve been better for the demo, given the cw 1 + 2 demos both had 10 missions afaik, 5 has only 5. My memory isn't excactly bast atm so i might be wrong here. Anyways, regarding my linux issue: i ended up booting into windows (the first time for like 3 months) :)

Anyways, can't wait for full version :)

With my mouse scrolling feature not working right, and my ancient, beat-up PC, I managed to start the game :)
Right around the second star system, first mission, my PC began lagging a bit. The game stopped responding for about a few seconds after I won, so maybe it's a little too much for my PC. Still, though, I can't wait for CPRL.
By the way, is there any CPRL documentation as of now that the general public can access?

Tiny error, might be my ancient system. Second time around & doing some experimenting. Clicked "Save Keys to File" & it opened Windows notepad. But it wouldn't let me save. Got the msg: Common Dialogue Error (0x3002). I have a screenshot if that would help resolve.

The knuckle cracker wiki, accessed from the download page. I also learned of two new enemy units that way.

The most common reason for this is a mix of forward and backward slash characters in the file path name. This might be a language support issue.

neither x64 or 32 is working on Windows 8.1 for me.

The window starts and I hear the knuckle cracker sound, but then the window just stays black forever.

:(

Running fine on Windows 8 x64 on my other computer.

That is all correct except for the save part.  The 'save keys to file' feature will write the key settings to a file in a format you can easily read.  Then it will open the file using whatever app is associated with .txt files.  After that, it's up to you if you want to do anything with it (like print it).  Note that it is already saved to a file... notepad just opened that file.  When you go to save it, try a different location. My bet is the notepad just doesn't have permissions to write the file back to where it opened it from.

Right at the top of the log I see this, which appears to talk about failures. -- there are also a gazillion references to "ARB shader compile error"

The log file is extremely useful. Next time, would you please be so kind as to attach the *entire* file as an attachment to your post? Click on "Additional Options" just below where you compose a post in this forum and then next to Attach, click the button to select the file.

Is anyone else having a problem where the curser is a few pixels under where it is actually clicking?

(on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.4 using built in trackpad.  Will try with mouse as soon as I get to one, let me know if you need any more computer specs to help)

I don't even get the demo to run on my mac. I have Mac OSX 10.7.5 and I have installed the newest version of Adobe Air (I have read that CW2 needs this so I tried it).
Are there any other requirements?
When I try to open the game the icon just jumps for a while and then stops jumping. Whenever I try to click on the icon it disappears.

My understanding is that Virgil coded the game in Unity, not Air. You may try to download a Unity player (Although I'm no expert and my advice probably won't work).

holding [n] to advance multiple frames in succession doesn't work in the demo, you get the one frame from the one press, and thats it.  That was a useful part of CW2, you could hold [n] down so that you stayed paused, played frame by frame, but when you knew you had a second or two, you could just hold [n] and advance through them quickly.

You can definitely just pause/unpause, and hammer [n] in between, so there's no loss of function, its just not as fluid a process.

If this was intentional, can I ask it be re-instated?
If its still supposed to work like that, then bug?

By the way, is there any CPRL documentation as of now that the general public can access?
The knuckle cracker wiki, accessed from the download page. I also learned of two new enemy units that way.
Wait, how did you get access to that :O for me it keeps saying that i have no permissions.

I'm going to guess the CRPL wiki page is only for beta users right now, and permissions will change when the full game is released.

I have installed unity web player now. But it still doesn't work.

I just wanted to say everything loaded and works fine for me. I have played the demo through on both Win 7 x64(with the x64 download) and an iMac with Snow Leopard. they both loaded and ran perfect the first time.

The demo works great for me (Win8 64bit laptop using the 64 bit download). I'm glad the demo ended where it did since I'd be getting nothing else done this week if it were much longer. The game is probably not meant for touch, but works pretty well with one hand on the touchscreen and the other on the keyboard.

Unless I hear the issue was resolved I'll post a full log file this evening when I get home. I only have one Windows 8.1 machine so I can't reproduce at work.

Be careful, since the log gets overwritten on game startup.

I'll wipe the directory and do a clean install and then reproduce the error from scratch. then close down once it's clear it isn't working. That should give you guys a reliable single-sample of the log.

I managed to get the demo running on my Mac. The problem was, that the Application doesn't had execution rights.

Asuming you have your CW3 in /Applications do the following on the console

chmod +x /Applications/CW3.app/Contents/MacOS/Creeper\ World\ 3

After this the app will start properly.

Well, looking at his forum rank he seems not to be beta tester. Otherwise i wouldn't have been as surprised.
