Title:
Nice Job 1: The Hydraulic Engineer
Difficulty:
Hard
Creeper type:
Land only
Remarks:
Can be played laid back. It takes just one blaster to defend your initial position, but a few more to finish the map. Use of some storage is recommended.
Description:
26% of The Netherlands (also known as Holland or the low lands) is located below sea level. Windmills were used to create land out of sea. As the highest 'mountain' is only 322 meters, flooding is a constant threat to this flat country protected by dunes and dykes.

Today you are an hydraulic engineer, safely operating from Germany. On the map you'll see Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht (the four largest cities) and some smaller towns.

Your job: save the people in the southern province called Zealand. During the flood in 1953 this went terribly wrong. After that activate all windmills and help out the friendly Dutch population. When done, please pick up the message from our Queen.

Note: by law new nuclear reactors are not allowed in The Netherlands, but you can use the only one we have and those in Germany and Belgium.

fun map, very close with energy at times for me, and i screwed up the first time, didn't get the survivor in time, man i can't imagine how some of these scores are obtained, probably just utilizing the drones better than i do.

Spoiler
The key is to first build everything you need before you engage the creeper (at any map). First all the energy, then other structures. This takes about half of the time I played the map.

After that I used only 2 drones to conquer the top part of the map (as support). I used 6 more during the final 2 minutes to reach the artifact and charge the bottom totem (they refuelled only once).

Edit:
Holy ****! I just noticed Sandra has been playing this map for more than 2.5 hours! My respect for her perseverance! :)

Well, that took me too long!

I had not read the comments, and was convinced the wayy to beat this was to start from the bottom left,. and work my way up. It just seemed easier to wade into the Creep down there, than up in the quagmire of walls at the top. After several false starts where I had to pull back,. I finally made it nearly to the rune, but energy starvation took the wind out of my sails and I had to recall all the blasters again, and lose all the ground. That's when I finally tried from the top.

Thus a very long time...

Yeah, this is my only map with an energy limit (of about 11-12 units per second) and that makes it a bit harder. It's enough to conquer certain parts, but when an attack takes too long your blasters will run dry, especially when the drones start recharging. That's why I recommend having some storage filled up before you start the main assault.

Although it may be possible to cap every emitter, I never do. I indeed start at the top and charge all totems, except for the bottom one. Then I clear a path to the artifact and re-use these blasters to charge the final totem.

Only when you would count the parts of The Netherlands that still contain water I guess....

It's laid back in the sense that defending yourself isn't hard. Finishing the map is a lot harder, due to the energy constraints.

Thanks Izz!

Spoiler
When you like to finish fast you'll have to build most units before you engage the creeper and have some energy in store.

Very nice map, much work to do since energy is rare and creeper is dense !
I had a very good moment.

Spoiler
'Some' is probably an understatement. ;) About 300-400 is the minimum I guess.

Nice time! Still wondering whether I should replay all my maps with the new functionality that has become available since I created them....

The packet filter for instance (although I'm sure it's not gonna gain me 30 seconds).
